hey guys a Elijah Gadget Hunter here
0:08
with culac at Mac 2013 I uh stumbled
0:11
across the transporter booth and uh the
0:14
transporter is a cool little device that
0:16
helps you create your own personal cloud
0:18
storage Network did I say that correctly
0:20
Tony pretty close pretty close and the
0:22
guys who created the drobo actually the
0:24
guy who started drobo you know that neat
0:27
little device that lets you create raids
0:28
and all sorts of different Siz hard
0:29
drive started this company they did a
0:32
Kickstarter project asked for 100 grand
0:34
got about 260 right so the people want
0:37
it I'm going to let Tony tell you a
0:38
little bit more about what this device
0:40
does and what makes it so special try to
0:42
follow us here this is new technology so
0:43
it's easy to get lost yeah sure so
0:45
thanks thanks very much so the way the
0:47
product was uh was originally conceived
0:50
was our founder Jeff Jeff barl and our
0:52
current our coo uh Jeff was based in San
0:55
Diego at the time um and our coo was in
0:58
San Francisco and what je wanted to do
1:00
was actually move some movies around
1:02
about 100 gab of movies um and they
1:05
found there was no easy way to do it you
1:06
could use Dropbox but it was going to be
1:08
really really expensive to do 100 Gig of
1:10
of uh data and our coo is cloudophobia
1:13
he just doesn't like to put his data
1:15
anywhere else and routin control of the
1:17
data so they they thought there must be
1:19
an easier way to do this so lo and
1:22
behold they came up with the concepts of
1:23
Transporter and what what transporter is
1:25
is the world's first online but offcloud
1:29
personal storage device that allows you
1:31
to share collaborate uh and back up your
1:34
folders with anybody you want anywhere
1:36
in the world um but without storing any
1:39
data in the cloud all we do all we do is
1:42
enable a peer-to beer communication
1:44
between you and the person you want to
1:45
share with or between you and someone
1:48
else's transporter if you want to retain
1:49
two cop more than one copy of the
1:52
data go ahead I was going to say so he
1:54
explained this to me earlier so it also
1:56
lets you allow allows you to do some
1:57
cool things so share files easily with
1:59
people
2:00
let's say you have some a movie you want
2:02
to share with your M as you would say
2:04
and it makes it easy to do that and then
2:06
also allows you to access your data from
2:08
anywhere in the world right correct so
2:11
I'm I'm a living breathing example I I
2:13
live here in the Bay Area my parents
2:15
live in England I've given them access
2:17
to my Transporters so that they can
2:18
actually access my my ioto library and
2:21
see the photos I'm actually going to
2:23
send them a transporter as well um what
2:25
that will give me is a full offsite
2:28
backup once they've plugged it in
2:29
they've got it up and running um they
2:31
will accept the invitation from me and
2:33
it will copy and replicate real time my
2:35
ioto library 5,000 m away so if I've got
2:39
you know my house burns down someone
2:40
someone burgles my house I've got my
2:42
iPhoto Lobby that's what I care about
2:44
but it works very very powerful for any
2:46
sharing collaboration wherever you are
2:49
in the world if I'm work if I'm on a
2:50
plane I'm working on a document I land
2:53
anywhere in the world I connect to the
2:54
internet I've immediately got access to
2:56
my transporter and the data on it and
2:58
it's cashed on my hard driver as well so
3:01
I've I've got a real time backup
3:02
wherever I am but I've got access
3:04
anywhere in the world one more important
3:05
note too you probably couldn't tell this
3:06
by looking at the transporter but it
3:08
houses a hard drive correct can be sold
3:10
with or without a hard drive or if you
3:11
have a 2.5 in hard drive laying around
3:13
somewhere I have like five you just plug
3:15
that guy in and it will immediately
3:17
start storing data on that hard drive
3:18
right absolutely it'll format itself to
3:20
the hard drive um and Away you go you're
3:22
up and running um the other beauty is if
3:24
say you know the hard drive goes down or
3:27
somebody steals your hard drive it
3:29
actually only work in that device and
3:30
it's only it's only works with you and
3:33
your password and your your user details
3:36
interesting so we're definitely going to
3:37
be trying to review one of these for
3:39
culac see how it works and uh if people
3:42
wanted to buy this uh where can they get
3:43
it and how much does it cost they can go
3:45
to our online store we're up and running
3:47
now um we've got also got a list of
3:49
Partners on there Amazon Newegg PC M Etc
3:51
so you can come there um the Z terab is
3:55
$199 um we selling it with one and 2
3:58
terab 1 terab $299 2 tab 3.99 there you
4:01
have it some cool technology from maw
4:03
