0:06
hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:07
how to watch what your kids are doing
0:10
online specifically using parental
0:13
controls as well as just kind of monitor
0:15
uh what people would be doing on your
0:17
computer so it's actually fairly easy to
0:21
set up now you can enable parental
0:23
controls on the administrator account so
0:26
if you only have one account on your
0:27
computer you're not going to be able to
0:30
set parental controls on that computer
0:32
alone so to start it up all you're going
0:36
to have to do is go up to your app logo
0:38
menu and click system preferences system
0:41
preferences is going to open and you're
0:44
going to click on the parental controls
0:48
tab so now what you're going to see here
0:51
is a list of all your accounts on your
0:54
computer that can have parental controls
0:57
and what you're going to have to do in
0:59
most cases is click the lock to make
1:00
changes so it's going to have you
1:02
authenticate with your
1:04
password and then you're going to be
1:06
able to manage controls so I'm going to
1:09
click on my demo account that I made
1:10
here and all I have to do is Click
1:13
enable parental
1:14
controls now from here you're going to
1:17
get a lot a lot of different options
1:20
what that you can set for parental
1:23
controls now if you have kids the
1:25
biggest thing you're probably going to
1:26
want to choose is use Simple finder and
1:30
what simple finder does is it kind of
1:33
strips down Mac OS 10 to its most basic
1:36
form in order to better suited for
1:40
younger or inexperienced users as it
1:42
says so it's going to give them a little
1:44
less control over the system so you know
1:46
they're not going to be able to mess it
1:48
up as easy and you can also limit
1:50
applications
1:52
so let's say you don't want your kid
1:55
accessing a Twitter application you can
1:58
limit applications that you want them to
2:01
use so I can click that
2:04
and let's say apps that are 17 plus I
2:08
don't want them you know using I can do
2:12
that so you can see down here allowed
2:14
apps I have all the apps that I have
2:16
installed so let's say I don't want them
2:19
using Twitter now they're not using
2:21
Twitter or other apps I have a lot of
2:23
different apps in here and I could just
2:26
click any of those and they wouldn't be
2:29
using anymore so that's pretty much how
2:31
it works uh very easy to work with and
2:36
restrict what apps you want people
2:39
using this is also useful if you have
2:42
other people accessing your computer and
2:43
you don't want them to have full access
2:45
over everything that you have on your
2:49
computer you can also disallow users to
2:52
modify the dock so that they can't take
2:55
things out of the dock they can't put
2:56
things in the dock things like that and
2:59
what you you have in there is a set
3:02
restricted set of applications and
3:05
that's how it's going to be you can also
3:07
click on logs here and you're going to
3:09
be able to see applications that the
3:11
user open things they did in I chat webs
3:15
websites that are blocked and websites
3:17
that are visited so you have a lot of
3:19
different things if you see your kid on
3:21
the computer you don't know what they're
3:22
doing or something like that you can
3:24
just go in look at the websites
3:27
visited and you have all your logs here
3:30
so you can set it up so activity for one
3:32
week all Group by we can website and
3:36
date so this is a way to manage all the
3:38
logs that are on here so if you click on
3:40
the web tab you can limit access to
3:43
adults websites automatically and you
3:45
can customize this from here so you can
3:47
add websites to block and you know never
3:51
allow certain websites or always allow
3:53
certain websites so that's pretty nice
3:55
under the people tab you can limit mail
3:57
and I chat functions so if you don't
3:59
want them them using mail let's say you
4:01
don't really want them to have access to
4:02
a mail account or chat with other people
4:05
you can do that easily and you can also
4:08
allow certain contacts so let's say you
4:10
want them to be able to chat with maybe
4:12
grandma or something like that but none
4:14
on the other people so it's very easy to
4:16
do that that way and you can also manage
4:18
logs from there you can also have time
4:20
time limits now this is very useful
4:23
let's say if your child spends a lot of
4:25
time on the computer and you want them
4:26
to you know be off at a certain time in
4:28
the night you can limit it to a certain
4:30
amount of hours and then you can set it
4:32
for the weekend let's say uh two more
4:34
hours on the weekend something like that
4:37
you can limit it for that too and then
4:39
also you know for school nights it's
4:41
very easily accessible Sunday through
4:43
Thursday Friday and Saturday so you can
4:46
prevent access so at that certain time
4:48
let's say at 8:00 you want them off the
4:50
computer it'll log them out at 8:00 and
4:54
that'll be it so if you go into the
4:56
other tab you can also do a lot of other
4:58
things here hi High profanity in the
5:00
dictionary so if you don't want them you
5:02
know looking up inappropriate words you
5:04
can click that you can limit them from
5:07
you know changing up your printer
5:09
settings so messing up your computer
5:11
pretty much and also CD and DVD burning
5:14
as well as changing their password so
5:16
that you're locked out of their account
5:19
so you have a lot of different options
5:20
in parental controls and it can make you
5:23
a lot more you know give you a lot more
5:25
peace at mind when you're using your Mac
5:28
and letting kids use your Mac or even
5:30
other
5:31
people so that's about all and it's very
5:33
simple and if you want to get rid of
5:35
parental controls then you can just turn
5:37
parental controls off and they're off so
5:40
it's very easy to set up very easy to
5:42
configure and it'll give you the piece
5:44
at mind you might want so that's about
5:46
all for this video I hope you found it
5:48
useful and thank you for
