hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:10
how you can add the current date to
0:12
notification center now as nice as
0:14
notification center is and iOS 5 on both
0:18
the iPad and the iPhone it's not
0:21
incredibly useful as far as additional
0:24
functionality goes so beyond just seeing
0:26
the basic notifications you can't do
0:28
much more with it besides showing the
0:31
current weather and the stocks so what
0:33
I'm going to show you how to do here is
0:35
to actually add a section with a current
0:37
date to notification center so I
0:39
originally saw somebody over on Mac OS
0:41
10 hints post this little script that
0:44
lets you do what I'm about to show you
0:46
do and it's actually pretty neat so
0:48
basically what this does is create an
0:50
iCloud calendar and with it you can
0:52
select a range of dates and it'll repeat
0:55
a event for each day and therefore show
0:58
the current date continuously every day
0:59
a notification center so if we go to the
1:01
script page here I'll of course have the
1:04
download link for the script in the
1:06
article and if you scroll down just a
1:08
little ways here you can download the
1:10
script and it's just a simple zip file
1:12
and from here I can just open it up
1:15
right in my downloads folder and hit
1:17
open so when I open this up it's going
1:19
to say this application will create an
1:21
all day event for the ranging Supply so
1:23
you can see the current date in the
1:24
notification center in
1:26
iOS and right now only the current year
1:28
is supported so you you have to run this
1:30
just once a year which isn't a huge
1:32
issue and what you have to do before you
1:34
hit okay here is specify the name of the
1:37
iCloud Calendar you want to use so you
1:39
have to create this before you continue
1:41
so what we're going to do is we're going
1:42
to go to the applications folder and
1:44
open up IAL and from here we're going to
1:46
go up to the file menu and select new
1:48
calendar and then you're going to want
1:50
to hit iCloud and then here you can name
1:53
this calendar we're going to call this
1:55
calendar today
1:58
is just like that and now if we go over
2:02
here we can see I named it today is and
2:04
then I can hit okay and what I can do
2:07
now is enter the starting date and of
2:10
course this is today so I can hit okay
2:13
and I can do the end date and of course
2:15
since it is December this is only going
2:16
to run a few more days before I'll have
2:19
to do it again but that's just
2:20
unfortunate because it is the end of the
2:23
year pretty much so I can hit okay again
2:25
and it's going to create the events and
2:27
it says it might take a while but there
2:29
there you go and there it is and I can
2:31
hit okay and it's all done with so once
2:34
you finished it's going to redirect you
2:35
to this donation page where you can
2:37
donate if you so choose so if we go back
2:40
into iel we can see that for the rest of
2:42
the month at least cuz it is December
2:44
it's created today is events for
2:46
everything and while it may look like
2:48
it's a bother to have all these on I of
2:49
course you can just go up to the
2:51
calendars button and unselect today is
2:53
and you won't see any of those you don't
2:54
have to worry about it and it just kind
2:56
of sits there very unobtrusively so now
2:59
what I'm going to do do is I'm going to
3:00
go onto my device and I just want to
3:02
tweak a couple things to make this the
3:04
best it can be so if I go into settings
3:06
from here and then notifications I'm
3:08
going to want to scroll down until I hit
3:10
the calendar and in here you're going to
3:14
want to make sure it says show and then
3:16
just one item because if you show more
3:18
than that it's going to show you know
3:20
upcoming events for the next days and
3:22
could get a little annoying and you
3:24
might also want to turn off badge app
3:26
icon if you don't really want that there
3:29
either now you can see if I'm in any
3:31
application such as Safari and I just
3:33
want to know the current date I can just
3:34
pull on notification center and right
3:36
there you can see that it is Tuesday
3:38
December 13th 2011 and there you have it
3:42
so there you go there's how you can add
3:44
the current date to notification center
3:46
on the iPhone and iPad and just a side
3:48
note it does work best on the iPad
3:51
because it can tend to get cut off
3:53
sometimes on the smaller screen on the
3:55
iPhone unless you're using it in
3:57
landscape so that is just one small
3:59
downfall but if you're in Safari or
4:01
something and you just want to know the
4:03
date you're most likely in landscape
4:06
mode anyways so as always if you have
4:08
anything that you'd like to see me do a
4:09
howto on make sure to send me an email I
4:11
hope you found this video useful and
4:12
thank you for
