hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:06
how you can get some of the features
0:08
that are in the iOS 5 beta on your
0:10
device now so if you're not a developer
0:12
and you don't really feel like bending
0:14
the rules but you still want these
0:16
features that are in iOS 5 early there's
0:19
a way you can do this so normally you
0:21
wouldn't be able to get the iOS 5 beta
0:23
on your device yet unless you're a
0:24
developer of course um but for this all
0:27
you're going to need is to have your
0:28
device Joe broken and I'm not going to
0:30
go into that here there's plenty of
0:32
tutorials so most of the new stuff in
0:34
iOS 5 isn't really new itself but it is
0:37
new to iOS but there are many App Store
0:41
and Cydia alternatives to these that
0:43
work almost the same and in some cases
0:45
actually give you more features than
0:47
what iOS 5 will so first off one of the
0:50
big new features that Apple described in
0:53
iOS is the lock screen camera so
0:56
basically when you're on the lock screen
0:58
and you double click the home button you
1:00
get a little camera button and then you
1:01
can launch camera right from there well
1:03
if you go to the Cydia Store and
1:04
download camera buttons it's a paid
1:07
application once you go to your lock
1:09
screen you'll be able to hold down the
1:12
button of your choosing you have a
1:14
couple different settings so I'm going
1:15
to hold down the up volume button and
1:18
it's going to launch the camera for me
1:20
so there you have the camera running and
1:22
now I also have it set up that I can
1:24
push the up volume button to take a
1:25
picture just like you can on iOS 5 so
1:29
there you can see I'm taking pictures
1:31
the next thing and probably the biggest
1:32
is notification center and this is a
1:35
feature that Apple's really been heavily
1:36
promoting in the betas and basically you
1:39
get to see your notifications from the
1:41
lock screen and you can swipe to see all
1:43
of them and you can also pull that one
1:45
from the top to get them and they all
1:47
show up in a list well of course in
1:49
Cydia there is an alternative that is
1:51
very much the same and it's called
1:53
mobile Notifier and to get this it
1:55
doesn't if you search for it right when
1:57
you jailbreak your device you're not
1:58
going to see it what you have have to do
2:00
is you have to add a source and that
2:02
source is right here and rather than try
2:04
to say that Source because it's very
2:06
strange you can just see it on the
2:08
screen here and all you have to do to
2:10
enter that source is go to the manage
2:13
tab in Cydia click on
2:16
sources hit edit hit add and then type
2:20
in that Source right here after the
2:22
HTTP and then click add source and it
2:25
will be added and then from there you
2:27
can go in and you can see mobile
2:29
Notifier now I have this installed and
2:32
basically it acts pretty much just like
2:34
notification center in that if I get a
2:36
notification on the lock screen so let's
2:40
say I or somebody replies to one of my
2:42
tweets and I'm on the lock screen uh
2:46
let's try this out so right there I just
2:48
replied one of my tweets uh with a
2:51
different account and you can see it
2:52
comes up Miss notifications and if I tap
2:55
on this you can see all my notifications
2:57
in a little uh drop down and then you
2:59
can see see here it's Twitter and they
3:01
will scroll up and down in a list here
3:03
uh kind of like in the beta and it also
3:06
works similarly to iOS 5 where if I get
3:08
like let's say a Twitter reply while I'm
3:10
just doing anything so let's say I'm
3:12
just sliding around here and I get a
3:14
reply you'll see it at the top here and
3:16
you can see all the icons move down it
3:18
says Twitter I can tap on this and it
3:20
gives me the information about it so
3:22
that's real Handy and then I can just
3:24
kind of dismiss it or I can go right to
3:26
the app now you can't pull down from the
3:28
top like you would in notification
3:29
center let's say I get a tweet and uh it
3:33
comes up here and let's say I'm not
3:34
around and it just you know dismisses on
3:36
the lock screen or if I tap this button
3:38
right here it'll go away and now when I
3:41
double tap the home button you can see
3:43
Miss notifications I can clear all of
3:45
them and then you can see my mentions as
3:46
well and I can tap these to go right to
3:49
them so that's pretty handy and the next
3:51
big thing that Apple talked about was
3:52
iMessage and this is a thing where you
3:54
can send text messages from the iPod
3:57
touch as well as the iPad nor you
4:00
wouldn't be able to send text from the
4:01
iPod or the iPad and this kind of lets
4:03
you do that and it kind of lets you
4:05
group text between your iOS devices so
4:08
in the App Store there are plenty of
4:10
alternatives to this and uh one of them
4:12
here is Text Plus and this is another
4:14
application that lets you text between
4:17
iOS devices of course as well as other
4:21
phones and things like that so you're
4:23
not limited directly to iOS devices and
4:26
the handiest part about it is that it is
4:28
it does work on the Ione pad and the
4:30
iPod Touch so you're not limited to the
4:34
iPhone anymore and that I think is the
4:36
biggest feature that a lot of people are
4:37
looking for if they have an iPad and
4:39
they want to text from it uh but they
4:41
can't because they have to use their
4:43
iPhone so this is Handy and it works on
4:45
all devices uh one thing that Apple
4:49
highlighted with their iCloud service is
4:51
Wi-Fi syncing so pretty much the idea
4:55
behind it is you don't have to plug in
4:57
your device anymore to your computer and
4:59
syn through iTunes whenever it's
5:01
connected through uh to power it will
5:04
automatically sync and there is a
5:07
application just like this in the Cydia
5:09
store it's called Wi-Fi sync and it's
5:11
pretty much exactly the same
5:13
unfortunately I can't demonstrate it for
5:15
you here because it only works on the
5:17
iPhone and the iPod Touch first second
5:20
and third generation as well as the iPad
5:22
1 so I'm old to luck here with the iPad
5:24
Touch fourth generation but allows you
5:26
to to sync over Wi-Fi and you don't you
5:29
don't even need to be plugged in and
5:31
another thing that Apple announced is
5:34
picture editing right from the photos
5:36
application so any pictures you take you
5:39
can automatically edit now there's tons
5:41
of different photo editing applications
5:43
in the App Store but the best one I
5:46
found is picture effect magic and it
5:48
lets you do a lot of the things that
5:51
Apple showed off with iOS 5 uh I can do
5:54
different effects and there's tons of
5:55
different effects I can cop the picture
5:59
and these are all very similar to how
6:02
the photo editing in iOS works so you
6:04
can see may I want that I can save that
6:07
and let's put on a focus light effect
6:10
now these effects are things that Apple
6:12
doesn't even allow you to do so you have
6:16
more options with this than the official
6:19
iOS way Apple also announced news stand
6:22
which lets you buy and look at magazines
6:24
on your device and there's an
6:26
application called Zeno it's also in the
6:29
App Store
6:30
and it kind of lets you do the same
6:31
thing you can see here I have three
6:33
different magazines these are kind of
6:34
the light Edition but you can see I can
6:36
swipe through I can look at my magazines
6:39
they're all stored in this Central Hub
6:41
here and I can look at the shop and I
6:43
can look at all magazines and I can buy
6:45
and download magazines right from here
6:48
another neat thing that Apple included
6:49
in Safari is called reading list and it
6:53
lets you save sites for later to re and
6:57
there's an application in the app store
6:59
called read it later and you can see I
7:02
have a reading list it's almost
7:04
identical and what I can do is I can
7:07
install a bookmark tool in Safari that
7:11
all I have to do is when I'm on a site I
7:13
click the bookmark and it automatically
7:14
adds it to my reading list and I can do
7:16
this on the desktop too with a plug-in
7:19
so that this is always synchronized
7:21
between your devices so there you go
7:23
there are some different alternatives to
7:26
the iOS 5 features so you can feel like
7:28
you're running iOS 5 on your device
7:29
right now even if you're not a developer
7:31
