good grief do you have like a mosquito in a
0:11
jar I think you're the one that owes an explanation list we all know where that came from certainly
0:20
not I don't see anything happening on the on the live stream I I think we're completely toast what is going on I see
0:27
nothing I hear nothing what do you mean oh but it says we're connected let's hope that's not
0:34
true unfortunately we have been live for several minutes now we got caveman here we got Betty
0:41
Reyes we got Gary Gibson yes you can hear us fantastic
0:47
sorry about that we got Lewis in the chat look at that maybe he's gonna a wrench maybe he's gonna leave us a Super
0:55
Chat i g give Leander five bucks for a sandwich well I think YouTube takes half so you
1:02
better give him 10 and actually it's 2024 buy you a sandwich so I need to give him $40 for a
1:08
sandwich remember when a foot log was five bucks the Subway by my house now
1:14
the foot that the 6 inch is like nine and it's got half as much quote
1:19
unquote meat yeah meat in in parenthesis I I swear I saw that like an
1:28
ingredients list for a Subway sandwich and like everything but the roast beef this is this this was this was my
1:34
recollection don't sue me was all made of turkey like the matter what you get the chicken the turkey the other meats
1:41
all turkey and like the actual roast beef is not turkey but everything else is just ground up you know extruded
1:48
turkey I'm pretty sure I thought what what I saw this was years ago I been to a Subway dude who goes to Subway does
1:55
anyone eat at Subway anymore I went to one maybe five years ago everyone went one 5 years ago but they not been back
2:02
road okay it was all you know what it was okay the problem with Subway is that you don't know if you're going to a good
2:08
Subway or a skimpy Subway that's the problem oh man sometimes you go in there and they're like oh here's a a slice of
2:15
green pepper would you like more here's here's a sliver of onion and you're just like what the I remember back in in my
2:23
college days University of Cincinnati man they would pile those things up the Steak and Cheese sub oh my God
2:30
oh yeah Fant and and they always had coupons where you could get like a foot
2:35
long sub and a soda for 4.99 yeah I know man those days have long gone there is
2:42
no faster way to lose me as a customer or ruin my day than to than to be stingy
2:51
on the helpings on my burrito on my sandwich Chipotle has a major problem
2:56
with this like it it is a complete crapshoot at the Chipotle near my near my house like I'll go up there and I'm
3:04
looking at the person serving and I'm like do I want to wait in line and try to avoid this person that that person
3:09
looks like um a skimper you know what I mean it's like they're going to be oh here's your beef and like they spread
3:15
they they they sprinkle on a few Pebbles of beef on your burrito like the rice
3:21
scooper is like barely full and it's like they're either iron deficient or
3:26
they really just don't like serving people they can't lift the scooper and they're barely putting on it's like oh
3:31
here's your here's your taco and it's like there's barely anything on it and now the prices are Skyhigh and if I see
3:38
you do that oh man I'm out of there I think that it happens way too often I I
3:43
actually wrote um uh to Chipotle corporate I was
3:48
like you got to do something about this Chipotle near my house this place this particular one this particular one I I
3:53
got so sick of it I was like you got to do something about this Chipotle they're ruining your business I'm not going to come back because every time I go there
4:01
at like 80% of the time I get somebody who just will not put any actual anything on the burrito and I'm like I'm
4:06
sick of it man your prices are too high there's no better way to distract
4:12
two middle-aged white guys than to get them talking about the high price of food and the small portions in the time
4:19
you were talking about that I could have stolen the Mona Lisa or you know broken into your house and taking your TV first
4:26
of all there's only one midle AG white guy on this show so let's get the fact
4:34
Street second this I hope you're not implying that I'm a middleaged if if if
4:39
you live the right way yeah and then we have one senior citizen so first of all get your get
4:45
your facts put your up but you know the struggle is real like when you're spending like $14 on a
4:52
burrito there is thisit sorry I just want to make sure you weren't confused that was not an invitation to keep going
4:59
yeah well unfortunately for you I have the microphone I'm doing the
5:05
broadcast there's nothing you can do but just sit here and listen but I will for the for the sake of our listeners I will keep this um short I went to a new Taco
5:14
Stand in Seattle I'm not done I'm not done what's going on and like this place
5:21
first of all I got there right at 7 because I heard it was popular get there at 700 there's already a 10-ft line by
5:27
the time I get up to order I'm no no no joke this is not an exaggeration 60t line the line was around the block and I
5:33
was like wow I get up to order my food and these guys are doing things with burritos I've never seen done before
5:39
like melting the cheese on the actual uh griddle and then putting the tortilla on
5:44
top of it so it goes on melted I mean like crazy burrito tricks this guy piled
5:49
the meat on my burrito it must have been like 4 Ines high this guy he had to be losing money on these
5:56
burritos they were way cheaper than Chipotle and the thing weighed like six lbs I could I couldn't even finish it
6:02
that's what I'm talking about now that place get my bu I'm hungry you guys want to take a break
6:09
yeah get some lunch I think we should just go ahead and call it good there it's only downhill from here all right
6:16
enough burrito talk although I could do a whole episode on this if you guys want it has been way too long since we've
6:22
done an off topic maybe this is oh my God just just copy and paste just copy
6:27
and paste this I want to do a shout out to Gary Gibson who says love you guys been listening watching since the very
6:33
first podcast an original member of the gub the gov Club unbelievable I always
6:40
love hearing from you all it's been I don't even know how long it's been I think we're about to hit 13
6:45
years you know and it's hard to believe the three of us have been podcasting for that one and for Griffin I think he's
6:50
about to hit a six-month anniversary 13 years ago Lewis was in or
6:57
Griffin was in Udo but I think his parents were
7:07
listening all right should we should we should we go just to be clear Cult of ma does not uh employ underage labor I just
7:16
want to be clear about that well you got his parents sign off to have him start all right it's Ohio nobody cares yeah
7:22
that's right and like the the working age of consent like seven there that's for the that's for the
7:28
mindes it's it's earlier for typing all right
7:33
um should we get this thing moving we got tons to talk about let's go ahead and move it along oh Mrs
7:41
D Mrs D oh my dear did I hear someone say something about inudo oh boy here we
7:48
go because I'll have you know I'm pregnant with El K's child oh my
7:53
goodness leis oh man I hope he knows I hope she's
7:59
sold him he's he's going to be surprised by that I mean he isn't isn't his is in his 70s it's kind of late to restart
8:07
with a new infant but you know what it's a circle of life
8:12
leis I saw him yesterday no went over to his house
8:17
unbelievable yeah we had a nice long talk about lasso product displays oh
8:24
it's good to know that he's still with us I wasn't sure about that I honestly wasn't sure all right well Mrs D you
8:31
sufficiently grossed everyone out no one wants to hear about that anymore let's go ahead and get this thing rolling we got lots of stuff to talk
8:37
about uh so we'll get it rolling in oh wait a second do we have browser mode
8:44
working should I check ah thank God here we
8:51
go going live in three hello and welcome to the coasty
8:58
fast 30 plus SP out the conversation you're going to hear all week long I'm your host air FR
9:04
Elijah joining me today when not editing for culac you'll find him in a local pub
9:10
dominating the dart board or on a stage dressed in later
9:15
H we're oiling the auto turrets surrounding camac World Headquarters so escaping riters are accurately targeted
9:23
he's a managing L walls is here thank God later hos in season's over is it
9:29
that's too bad also with us when it's time to go to sleep he lovingly shuts
9:34
down his Mac Mini unplugs it lays it down in his bed next to him sometimes he sings A L L sometimes he puts a wig and
9:42
lipstick on it it's weird but we don't judge here on the program rer for c m
9:48
Griffin Jones is here good evening this week's episode of the cultcast is like that one episode of
9:54
a sitcom that you usually skip on a rewatch where it's like you know your least favorite side character character
9:59
is like the main Central plot this oh come on this week is is the Griffin
10:05
special everyone wants to learn more about all the reviews and they were all
10:10
written by me it was a very busy week yeah well he's not joking I don't even
10:15
know if well at least about the reviews part I think everyone wants to learn more about George castanza so I think
10:21
you're fine there but I think the challenge here is going to be for me and LS to figure out where we're going to
10:27
talk which you know what you guys know I don't like to talk very much so I'm happy just to kick back and
10:34
let Griffin do the talking because Griffin has this has to be some kind of world record he has completed like 165
10:43
reviews in one week I mean if you're watching you can see I'll go full Griffin so you can see look at all those
10:48
computers behind him he's got computers all over the place all the new stuff he's got a Mac Mini he's got an iMac who
10:55
knows what else is back there he's going to be giving his reviews of the the new Max the M4 Max um I'll be talking more
11:03
about the MacBook Pro uh M4 Max uh versus M4 Pro versus M1 Max I think the
11:13
big for me the most interesting part of the new Max is is it time to upgrade because I know a lot of us have the M1
11:19
still because that thing is just such it was so it was so powerful um and it's
11:24
still so capable and I'm looking at the price of the new Max and I'm looking at
11:31
what my M1 Max can do and I'm like is it time I think it's time but tons of
11:36
reviews out now although not as many as I would have guessed at this time period like I would have guessed that we would
11:42
had way more um benchmarks out and we still are lacking in a lot of areas like
11:48
I I have barely seen any like um 14-inch MacBook Pro versus 16-inch MacBook Pro
11:54
um videos out there in fact I don't think we have a single one that I've seen which I find to be very odd um
11:59
overheating tests like there's a lot of stuff that I feel like we just haven't gotten yet which I have found to be odd
12:05
anyway we'll run through everything um before we jump right in I want to thank
12:12
all of you for supporting the program in so many ways I know many of you are supporting at uh support.the cast.com
12:20
which uh we certainly appreciate um and you could certainly do that and that
12:25
helps the show a lot it it uh we are bringing back um off topic which will forever be adree and free
12:31
forall thanks to those of you who support and I also want to give you
12:36
another quick reminder about CT cloth I'm vamping because I forgot to bring it up thousands and thousands and thousands
12:44
and thousands and thousands of orders um and Co cloth Remains the absolute best
12:49
cleaning cloth for all of your high-end equipment your Mac Mini your iPad your
12:54
TV your glasses your cars your camera equipment your lenses I mean I use these
12:59
things all the time they are outstanding and they truly are the best and we just
13:06
upgraded our carry cloth to a new version that is even better than the old version I mean of course it is it' be
13:12
weird if we upgrade it to a version that's worse right that would be a weird that would that that would be a weird
13:18
Flex uh now even worse coat cloth and yet and yet it happens and and yet
13:24
people do no it doesn't happen with the coat cloth just to be clear no not but it does happen it does happen I I would
13:29
I would argue the M3 Pro chps and and the everything but the M3 Max chip last
13:35
year were worse versions of things that have been released previously in many ways but not with the co cloth we would
13:42
never do you like that and our carry cloth now is a new version that gets
13:47
even better as you use it it develops like this uh this fibrous fluff there we go fibrous fluff TM that works very
13:56
similarly to like our cloth Duo Griffin is wearing it as a face mask also healthy for your skin actually probably
14:02
works great for your skin to be honest with you you could probably use these things uh as like a facial scrub I
14:09
wouldn't use it on your lenses or MacBook Pro after that but you could and uh it develops this fibrous fluff that
14:15
kind of reaches down into the cracks and crevices of your glasses and your lenses and stuff just like the co cloth Duo
14:21
maybe not as dramatically as the co cloth Duo but you'll have an assortment of great claws to clean everything in
14:29
your life and nothing will work better it leaves behind nothing but sparkling Glass and Metal I'm not sure what
14:35
Griffin's doing there I'm starting to worry for his mental health is are you creating a New Vision Pro made of coat cloth is is that that's right wow this
14:43
is an unbelievable game of Charades that we're playing here with Griffin um see you
14:49
could have saved yourself $4,000 Griffin and just done that uh my life will never be the
14:55
same uh if you haven't yet purchased some cult cloth they make great gifts obviously go to C cloth.
15:02
cloth. and use code Coast to check out you'll score yourself a an extra car cloth with orderers $20 plus thank you
15:08
to everyone who's already ordered and supported let's go ahead and dive right into the Griffin talk
15:17
show take it away Griffin what are we talking about me and Louis will just sit here quietly let's start with the M4
15:24
iMac uh the headline of my review is you don't have to pick between fast or fun
15:29
you know really every time you you talk about the new iMac you have to talk about the fact that it's kind of weird
15:36
that Apple still makes an all-in-one desktop computer know the the desktop computer is kind of like an endangered breed but if you have room for one in
15:43
your life the new one is beautiful and it has pretty impressive performance I ordered the the very base model one so
15:50
for $12.99 the 42k display 256 gabes of storage 16 gigabytes memory the8 core M4
15:57
chip and you know the colors are just gorgeous uh if you bought silver there's
16:03
something wrong with you I got the I got the green one it looks all minty it does
16:08
look very minty I have to say back there it looks it reminds me of the um the airpods
16:14
max yeah yeah I I recommend putting it in in a spot in your house if you can
16:20
where you can see the back as well because you get that rich color as well and like I I've acquired a lot of house
16:25
plants over the last year so I I took a lot of pictures around those very very Scenic great pictures in that
16:31
review by the way oh thank you yeah they are beautiful the display isn't Apple's
16:36
brightest like you hear you hear them throw around these numbers all the time and you're like well how much is a knit
16:41
this is a 500 knit display and I turned it up to Max brightness and I was immediately blinded like I just turned
16:48
it back down I actually had it around like a third to like 40% most of the time mhm and I I tried testing
16:56
it uh with it like display reflectivity so I I put it right in front of like a giant window and you know with like
17:03
direct sunlight falling on it you do still see a lot of Reflections but the display is still
17:10
legible uh it is nice to have the nanotexture display option though uh let's see I tried out desk view this is
17:17
the feature where it like skews the camera image to make it look like you have like a top down camera but I
17:24
discovered that you need like a really long desk for it to work I it sitting on
17:29
like a sort of like a standard you know 18inch deep desk sort of sitting in the middle and desk view was more like legs
17:37
view it's if if you look at Apple's product imag like marketing images you can see
17:42
like they have it sitting on like the back of like a long table ah in their in their videos which you don't you don't
17:49
catch at like the the fast-paced marketing video but um yeah I don't know how much utility I'll get out of that uh
17:58
now that it has 16 gigs of memory as default I think it's pretty obvious 256 gab of storage is the new pinch Point
18:05
mhm like the first thing you would upgrade if you have a little more money but I think it's a little less painful
18:12
like many more people can get by with 256 as opposed to like could get by with
18:18
only 8 gigabytes oh yeah yeah like that's totally true a lot of people do their work on the web and only need
18:23
local storage for the apps and things like Microsoft Office and that's pretty much it and you know oh it can you can
18:29
fit that with 256 yeah yeah I was also really impressed by the performance I I you know Apple throws
18:38
out these numbers and like you know they cherry pick the best stats like you know 500% faster at this one specific
18:45
benchmark that they do and the benchmarks don't don't tell the whole story either and this comes up more in
18:51
my uh maania review but I ran like I sat there like with a stopwatch just like
18:56
timing how long it takes to do ordinary parts of my job like video editing exporting an episode of the
19:03
cultcast image upscaling in pixel Mater like building apps and xco like standard
19:09
computer hobbyist stuff and the M for chip outperformed the M2 Pro in
19:15
basically everything you know so you know like really the rule of
19:21
thumb is that like every two generations uh like the the the the
19:27
chips go down a tier or like up a tier in performance so the old M2 Pro is now
19:32
the entry level M4 and with the M4 generation it's even more exciting than that because like the M4 Pro is outclassing the M2 Ultra in
19:39
some are I was just going to say this generation I think is definitely outclassing M3 in
19:46
almost every capacity like it doesn't it's it's that two generations has been condensed into one and maybe even less
19:53
because of the huge performance gains that we're seeing with M4 I mean it's it's it's I mean that that is the upgrade this year is the
20:01
performance the biggest downside is the ports I don't know why the entry level
20:06
model only has two ports on the back the MacBook Air has three ports the Mac Mini has five ports I could like sort of see
20:15
the argument that well they probably didn't want to like retool all their Machining or whatever like you know keep
20:22
the manufacturing costs low but they previously made an like the higher end iMac has four ports on the back there's
20:28
really no reason why the entry level model can't also have four ports it could just you know maybe they're just
20:35
like you know three Thunderbolt ports and one USB port but they got to give you some reason to spend more money yeah
20:41
you know especially now that they're giving you the extra Ram those kind of cost like at least three $3 each I was
20:47
going to say three cents yeah maybe they're probably in there actually they're probably actually on the mother
20:52
board they're buried under the aluminum they just put the aluminum over them so you can't use them we need we need to
20:58
have somebody take that thing apart and check but all in all I liked having an iMac it was nice having a computer
21:04
that's that's fun and like I like my Mac Mini but it always feels like a workstation it's it's nice like sitting
21:11
in a brighter part of the house than this office and looking at a just a fun computer if you have space in your life
21:16
for an all-in-one it's a good it's a it's a good you know it's it's nice that Apple makes one very good all-in-one
21:23
computer dude that's all I have to say about it I I think for the price there is no better computer for most people
21:29
it's completely capable it could probably edit 4K video it has a a 4K
21:35
screen you know most computers would struggle to drive a 4k monitor you you
21:42
can't even use a 4k monitor with most with most PCS unless you have a pretty decent graphics card it's like the fact
21:49
that you and not to mention 4K monitors are expensive so the fact that you could get a a a chip that could easily edit 4K
21:57
video that has a 4k monitor built in 4.5k right and
22:03
has a bunch of powerful ports and is beautiful I I think that for the price especially with 16 gigs being like the
22:10
standard for Ram for most people unless they really want a laptop you know like
22:15
this is probably an unbeatable value until you go much much higher in
22:21
price much higher in price and for an all of one it's like what computers actually are out there that compete with
22:26
this there's not very many many it's kind of in a class of its own I think the iMac is what I'm going to be most
22:33
sad to return to the Apple Store yeah and this is a bit of a tangent but like not least because the employees at the Apple Store were very nice like
22:40
apparently I actually ordered a purple one but when I got to the Apple Store they were like oh we don't have it in the mail yet it'll be here in the UPS
22:46
truck which will arrive like a few hours later in the afternoon I was like well I can't wait that long let me just cancel
22:52
that order and just buy a green one instead with the same price entry level model they're like oh yeah sure we can
22:58
do that for you and then when the purple one comes in we'll just Mark that as inventory so you know no problem easy
23:03
peasy it's Apple kind of dug their own grave there by making the same computer in seven different colors but they do
23:10
have lot employees are very accommodating yeah um did yeah go for it
23:16
oh I just gonna see if if there's anything um interesting about the unboxing of that
23:22
computer nope let's talk about the MacBook Pro there is there is some kind of EMB
23:28
gift that I'm supposed to play here okay yeah well look you get the box
23:35
Apple Apple's attention to detail is is is famous it's like their whole thing you get the box and the box has the
23:41
picture of the M the iMac on the front like sitting with the top on the top and the bottom on the bottom and like
23:47
there's the handle on the top of the box too so you know you like you sit it down on a desk and oh my go it
23:54
ISE the problem is that you open the box and the iMac falls out because somehow
24:00
it's upside down inside the box and I don't know why this is and yeah look a lot of people in the comments on
24:07
basically every social media platform this has posted was is basically saying like ah you imbecile you should have
24:12
everybody knows you need to sit the box down like I wouldn't have known that you you did set it down just on the wrong
24:18
side yeah well the picture on the front shows it the other way yeah it's crazy
24:24
honest when I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that it's sitting the way that
24:29
the picture is on the box the lid opens starting from the top of the box so you see okay well I it it makes it for those
24:37
of you listening we're looking at a gif of Griffin opening up the pizza box upside down here and as he opens it the
24:46
iMac slowly tumbles out and then flies towards the
24:51
ground on his well it h it starts slow and then it then it happens fast and you
24:58
can see the look of pure panic on Griffin's face as that thing starts to head towards the ground at 140 mil per
25:05
hour I I was trying to get him to post a uh video clip in that post but he's like
25:10
uh let's just do a gift you know that way I won't have to censor it won't have to censor the
25:16
audio all right that's all right man I I made a YouTube video a while back about this um floating Delorean from Back to
25:25
the Future and I got this really cool like uh um like artifact from the movie
25:33
that floats on this magnetic base and it's kind of hard to place on the
25:38
magnetic bass if you don't do it just right it doesn't float and I couldn't get it to float and
25:44
So eventually I unplug this thing um and I keep trying because I I need to to
25:50
move away from the wall and um I couldn't get it to float couldn't get it to float unplug it couldn't get it to
25:56
float could couldn't get it to float and then I realized that um like it's not going to work because it's unplugged
26:02
right it has to be plugged in so I plug it back in and I try it and I finally get it and I I put all that in the
26:07
YouTube video and I've never been roasted so hard in my life they like dude it's not plugged in dude it's not
26:13
plugged in you idiot it's not plugged in so I feel your pain from opening the box
26:19
upside down sometimes you're just you're doing what you're doing and you don't realize you know you don't realize I
26:25
think this was a very brave post you did gri come clean with you made me do I
26:31
remind you is there anyone to pause this gift right where Griffin is completely
26:36
panicking he's [Laughter]
26:42
going like watching your child fall out of your car like cuz you left them in
26:47
their car seats uh on the top you know that's the face Griffin's making here
26:52
the face of realizing that I might not get my $1,400 back in my twoe return window
26:59
geez can you I mean I I'm actually when I read your your description of it I was like are
27:05
you kidding me why would they do that and and we still don't know right we still have no idea why in the world they put that that doesn't make any have it
27:12
the other way inside the box like yeah what what gives it falls over when you open it because the heavy part of the
27:17
iMac is on top I don't know why they do that weird as can be all right well it
27:24
looks like it didn't break so you were spared you were spared this time but next time you learned you learned a hard
27:30
life lesson there let's talk about the MacBook Pro so I didn't write this
27:37
review who wrote this review David snow David snow he did his review upgrading
27:43
from the M1 Pro to the M4 Pro I mean first of all really the M4 Pro no M4 Max
27:50
what's what's going on here we'll allow it but we'll go through his review I'll add some color commentary and I also
27:56
want to weave in just some of the other reviews I've seen so far so according to David uh he says while the M4 or the M1
28:02
Pro and the M4 Pro laptops could be the exact same machine judging from the outside uh the new one takes some big
28:09
steps forward in performance I think that's the Marky feature David got the space black rather than silver um space
28:16
black is like a darker version of space gray which many of you know I think I'm going silver this year I think the space
28:23
black is just too black for me and also I heard it is an absolute fingerprint magnet from multiple people because it's
28:29
so dark it just shows fingerprints really badly so I think this year might be a return to Silver for me uh he
28:34
didn't go for the Nano texture display which I personally think is The Right Move um I've seen a bunch of reviews
28:41
about the Nano texture display people saying that they really like it because it cuts down on glare and your laptop
28:47
will be in situations where there could be glare and it's only $150 I just don't
28:53
like that it cuts down on the contrast and the vibrancy of the colors I think
28:58
the Nano texture display might be one of the reasons why Apple boosted the uh brightness of the screen to 1,00 nits to
29:04
to overcome the reduction in Clarity and and uh
29:10
saturation and just brightness from the Nano texture display I hear people like it I don't have a need for it I wouldn't
29:17
recommend it um but some people seem to really like it a lot uh Apple obviously
29:22
upgraded the web the web I almost said the web cram it probably was crammed in there so that's not far off
29:28
uh the M3 MacBook Pro Models it was a 1080p camera now it's a 12 megapixel
29:35
Center Stage camera I haven't seen a lot of differences in quality I was hoping
29:40
for a much uh bigger uh difference in the actual uh video quality haven't
29:46
really seen that to be honest it kind of looks the same so I don't know how much this will impact you unless you're
29:52
planning on on walking around while you're having FaceTime calls but that is a
29:59
uh uh an upgrade the M4 Pro 4K video editing is Silky Smooth in fact I think
30:07
the probably the best machine for a value from a value perspective this year
30:12
is the M4 Pro MacBook Pro that thing is absolutely insane I mean from what I'm
30:18
seeing it's outperforming the maybe not the top spec but the base spec M3 Max from last year
30:26
and it has way less cores like way less CPU cores and far far less GPU cores so
30:33
it that is the Marky feature is the massive increase in performance I personally would still probably not go
30:40
for the M4 Pro but I think for the vast majority of people who are sane and
30:45
don't have a compulsion to buy the absolute best that apple is releasing even though it far exceeds their actual
30:52
technical needs it's probably the best machine for most for for most people um
30:57
and especially if you're just a writer for cul of me and not someone who pretends to be a YouTuber that's true
31:02
and if you ever have hopes of doing YouTube then maybe get the M4 Max but
31:07
even even so I don't know what kind of video editing you would need to be doing
31:13
that you would require an M4 Max I I think that for Final Cut Pro the M4 Pro
31:19
is going to be able to do everything you you could you could possibly want um I've seen people stress test these
31:24
machines and the lengths to which they have to go to actually make the M4 Pro start struggling is in comic comic
31:33
territory it's like stuff that most people would never do so I think the value play here is the M4 Pro I'm still
31:40
going to go for the M4 Max personally just because I have to um battery life
31:45
is much better Dave was saying he got about 20 hours of mixed use battery life looks like he got the 14inch here as
31:51
well um which is funny cuz all the tests that I've seen almost all are all about the 14in I see very few people testing
31:58
the 16inch which I think is very strange and I'll talk more about that why that matters here in a sec um is it worth the
32:06
upgrade he's saying for professionals whose work demands the highest performance definitely the time saved on
32:11
resource int intensive tasks alone can justify the cost that is true from a lot of the benchmarking that I've seen the
32:18
M4 Pro is outclassing the M3 Max it's even outclassing the M2 Ultra in some
32:26
tests I mean it is just an absolutely Bonkers probably one of the biggest I would say maybe the biggest
32:33
performance increase we've seen since the switch to M1 maybe even bigger than the switch to M1 I mean it is just
32:40
absolutely outp powering everything um that Apple sells the other thing I will mention is Beware of the
32:48
14inch I have seen tests that even the M4 Pro is overheating slightly and
32:56
having to throttle and I haven't seen a lot of tests on it being a a M4 Max uh
33:03
14in I think the M4 Max version strangely we haven't seen these benchmarks yet yet are going to overheat
33:09
to such a degree that you may actually be wasting your money to upgrade to the higher spe uh M4 chips because the M4
33:17
may not be able to cool those chips sufficiently so that they they can maintain their performance which is a problem we've had on many Max in years
33:23
past so I would wait on benchmarks before going out and buying an M4 Max 14-in MacBook Pro I think those chips
33:30
are going to perform much better in the 16-in versions maxtech in previous years has been um faster to release videos
33:37
about the M like the the the max spec chips and the 14inch versions versus
33:44
versus the 16in versions they haven't put out a lot of content recently in in in regards to um MacBook Pro performance
33:51
they've been doing like a lot of like iMac and like Mac mini videos which I kind of find confusing cuz I think that
33:57
most people are interested in the actual Macbook proos so I'm not sure why they haven't released those yet I'm sure they will eventually so I'm kind of keeping
34:02
my eyes peeled but I haven't seen a ton of benchmark test really anywhere on
34:08
YouTube about the 14inch or the 16-inch MacBook Pros like everyone's talking
34:13
about like the Mac Mini which again I find to be odd because I know that that
34:18
machine is exciting and it's a redesign but most people are not interested in the Mac Mini so we're still kind of
34:24
waiting to see like what the True Performance is of the M M4 4 Max I will say I will say that uh there was one guy
34:31
I wish I should have brought up his video who did a test of the M1 Max versus the M4 Max versus the M2
34:39
Ultra I think and the M4 Max was beating
34:46
absolutely everything destroying the M1 Max obviously although there were some tests specifically in video en coding
34:53
and uh video editing that it didn't actually do that much better than the M1 Max which I found was interesting and
34:59
the M4 Max was destroying the M2 Ultra in virtually everything except for
35:05
specific applications where those applications really actually take full advantage of all the cores you could
35:10
throw at them CPU cores GPU cores now that's not very many things and those
35:16
are the only tests where the M2 Ultra actually outperformed the M4 Max in all
35:22
other tests the M4 Max destroyed the M2 Ultra which is crazy when you think about the fact that that is a desktop
35:29
computer with a massive heat sink and is plugged into a wall 24/7 like the M4 Max
35:36
run runs on battery power and it's still outclassing the M2 Ultra so I think that the M4 Max is probably going to be on
35:42
par with well we never got an M3 Ultra if it did exist it seems like it's like
35:47
M3 Ultra grade performance which is totally insane for a laptop so I think
35:54
my current plan of action if you're interested is still to go with the base spec M4 Max now I'm kind of leaning
36:01
towards the 16in from what I've seen so far with the overheating on the 14inch I don't know if I can get myself to plurk
36:07
down the money for a machine that's going to throttle but I haven't conclusively decided because we need to
36:13
see more benchmarks but that's kind of where I've landed so far but again kind of strange we're a week in now not a ton
36:20
of tests not nearly as many as I would have guessed for the M4 Max MacBook Pro
36:26
everyone's testing the M4 pro version and everyone's testing the 14in which I find to be totally bizarre um the other
36:32
thing I'll warn you of is the M4 Pro base model only comes with one fan so
36:38
you are going to run into heat issues just for that reason whereas the upper spec models come with two fans so for
36:44
that reason I also think that you may want to get a um a uh I think is it Bas
36:52
M4 Pro I'd have to go back and look I forgot the exact details but just be
36:57
aware that one of the bass models only comes with one fan so do your research why would they do
37:04
that well because a fan cost $3 profit because because that way they can get
37:12
you to buy the more expensive machines I think probably it could be that they just think the entry level the entry
37:17
level chip doesn't get as hot as the other ones that's probably being generous yeah yes you're being more
37:24
generous than I am uh into it Tom says the forun for Alex e Heath enough set I
37:30
think that's true don't don't be a heath get get a real Mac Oh large yeah what
37:35
are you working at The Verge yeah the 16 inch is way heavier so for that reason I
37:41
I I really don't want to get the 16 inch but I really I've used this analogy before it's like you don't want to put a
37:47
Porsche well this is actually a bad example I was going to say you don't want to put a Porsche engine in Subaru you can actually literally buy that car
37:54
you don't want to put a Ferrari engine in aou you know it's like it just doesn't make any sense the car is not
38:00
built for that engine your wheels are going to fly off you'll never get to top speed like the engine has to match the
38:06
chassis if you get my drift so you need to have uh a you may need to have a
38:12
larger machine to take advantage of all the horsepower of the chip that you're putting inside it and you could buy one
38:19
of those really expensive configurations in a 14-inch model Apple will let you but it's going to probably overheat so
38:26
bad that it's going to throttle and and unless you're working in like 5 to 10c intervals uh of compute you'll never
38:33
actually see any kind of sustained performance increase so it's probably not worth it in fact Max Tech some said something that I think will prove to be
38:40
true they're like we bet that the 16-inch M uh 4 pro model MacBook Pro
38:46
will outperform the M4 Max version of the MacBook of the 14inch and I bet you that will be true because of the th the
38:53
throttling because you need that air flow in order to keep the chips cooled all right I have sufficiently derailed
38:58
us are we going to um the Mac Mini review somebody who does like the Mac
39:04
Mini hey look I got no problem with the Mac Mini I just think it's not for me anyone with self best computer in the
39:10
world they've got respect for the computer but not for themselves take it away
39:17
Griffin ma with M4 Pro is mightier and Minier than ever oh yeah so I also
39:23
ordered the high-end Mac Mini with the M4 Pro ship uh $1,400 it comes with 5 12 gigs of Storage 24 gigs of memory and
39:30
the 12 core M4 Pro uh the iMac I should say I set up as brand new and just you
39:36
know signed into my iCloud account this is a computer that I like literally just swapped for my M2 Mac Mini and restored
39:44
from a time machine backup like same peripherals everything like same setup
39:49
it is small it's it's very small uh I usually have this like like
39:55
old time X clock like a flip clock from the 80s sitting on top of my Mac Mini and you know
40:03
because I'm in Ohio and I work in California time I I have a like physical clock on my desk that shows like that's
40:08
three hours behind the new Mac Mini is smaller than the clock so I had to just put it somewhere else on my desk that's
40:15
how small it is it's also the lightest Mac ever made the Mac Mini is almost
40:22
half a pound lighter than the 12in MacBook wow isn't that wild
40:29
yeah yeah um easy the ports on the back look gorgeous
40:35
the Mac Mini used to have this big like black plastic back plate now it's aluminum all the way around just like
40:40
the Mac Studio uh I test you know everybody's talking how do I feel about the power
40:46
button it's really not a big deal the power button on the bottom like the computer is so small and light that it's
40:53
it's not hard pressing it the two times a year that you have to I've pressed the power button on my all of these Macs
41:00
more times than the last week than I have in like the year before that because I've been moving them around my
41:06
house and all that in fact the new power button on the Mac Mini is like rounded
41:12
on the inside whereas the old one was like flush against the side so although
41:18
it's in a slightly less convenient location it's actually easier to press without looking how's that there you go
41:24
you mean it's a con concave or something yeah yeah it's like it's like curved inwards a little
41:29
bit it's easier topress um the only way that would be a real pain is if you had it like shoved in an enclosure or
41:37
something right like you if you stuck it under your monitor and back underneath a
41:43
desk or not a desk but like a riser I I can imagine like any enclosures that you're gonna find for this Mac Mini are
41:49
just going to have a little cut out for the power button it it's not a big deal I also recently discovered that there's
41:55
an option if you go to system setting energy it's like power on automatically after power failure and if you just
42:02
check that box and then immediately solves like 90% of the time where I have to push the power button there's a pro
42:08
tip better published at uh 20 minutes after the show's over uh get that out quick get that out
42:15
quick headphone jack moving around to the front is as irritating as I thought it would be I had it like and instead of
42:23
like reaching the audio cable all the way around to the front I just had the like cable going through my display and
42:30
you know routing the audio out of there but that presents its own problems because when you have your display plugged in over HDMI then you can't
42:37
control the volume from the Mac anymore and that's kind of a pain so I'm actually kind of glad to be going back
42:42
to my M2 Pro Mac Mini for that reason still have that I mean it's a headphone
42:49
jack you know it's like it's designed for headphones be glad that you have be
42:56
glad that you have a headphone jack at all you know am I right I mean that actually is true that actually is
43:02
true REM here Johnny I would have removed that thing that would have been spackled over and you would have had to
43:09
use an adapter um the internal speaker I
43:15
confirmed this still sounds like absolute trash well I didn't expect any perform like nobody uses that anyways uh
43:22
the performance is a big bump up 22% faster exporting video 4 49% faster
43:28
exporting audio 35% faster image upscaling this this thing's a monster
43:34
it's the best value in the computer industry made even better by the fact that it's now smaller and more
43:41
adorable there you go new Mac Mini and you're not keeping it no I intentionally
43:47
ordered a model uh with not enough internal storage space and not enough memory so that I wouldn't be tempted to
43:54
keep it because I can't afford to buy another computer right now God so you bought a you bought a model no
43:59
one's going to want you're going to return it to Apple and then and they're going to be like we can't sell this thing who ordered this thing well look
44:05
I'm not saying nobody's going to want this model like yeah ordinary people can do fine with 512 gigabytes of storage
44:10
space but I have two terabytes on my Mac Mini and I'm already bumping against the edges like almost every week so if I if
44:17
I buy another Mac Mini I'm gonna want at least 48 gigaby of memory and at least 8 terabytes of internal
44:24
storage I uh I finally got set up with the dream situation I I installed a 10g
44:32
switch in the CT Command Center I installed the 10g card on the
44:39
sonology Nas and I have a a uh OWC dock
44:46
with 10g built in it's unbelievable I installed the a 10g uh ethernet card on
44:52
um The Cult commander and and and now I got 10g you know all over the place
44:58
although 10 gigabit by the way it's like like the next version or the fastest version of ethernet that you can get
45:04
right now it's not quite as fast as I would have guessed it would be like my transfer rates like sustained are
45:09
probably only like 500 megabytes per second which is not as good as you would think it would be but it's plenty fast
45:16
for 4K video editing I mean and and probably the mechanical hard drives and this anology Nas are probably the
45:23
limited factor would be my guess some of them are maybe not the fastest drives but 500 gabes a second for video eding
45:29
is pretty darn good so like now I can just offload all my video to thisy NZ
45:35
not that I do because I don't make content but I could if I wanted to and that's what's important is removing
45:41
future obstacles right and uh and move things back and forth between Final Cut
45:47
Pro and theology NZ and not have to keep all that stuff on my Mac and does that mean I'm going to get a Mac specked with
45:53
lower storage space What do you you think I'm going to go I'm going to have to go for eight
45:59
terabytes I think because that's the best that Apple has is it worth the four grand probably not no I'm not going to
46:05
go that crazy but I think you you got to go at least two in my opinion because your iCloud uh photo library you need to
46:11
have a full backup of that somewhere and and so I want to have enough space
46:17
to potentially download my whole photo library but actually that won't be true for much longer will it because I'm
46:24
about to pass the two terab Mark God help me more money for Apple all right are you
46:29
done with that story yep uh I'm going to say that we we're planning on doing a full full you know walkthrough of the
46:36
new magic keyboard trackpad and mouse yeah uh we're running out of time here so I'll I'll just you know give a shout
46:41
out to those I reviewed all the new products they're basically the same except with USBC there's your review
46:48
well for better it serves well with the magic track bed because the magic track bed is already an excellent product but
46:54
I was hoping the Magic Mouse would be completely different and it isn't and uh Griffin will post these in the show
47:00
notes if you want to check these out when you say we're almost out of time I see these all these stories are marked
47:06
out did you mean to close all these out yeah are we trying to wrap up we have like seven minutes left what he
47:11
literally just said oh I know but are we wrapping up at 1:30 on the nose you you usually tell us that you have to okay
47:19
because I was like have that limit I I no I don't I don't have to be walking these sweet buns out the door right at
47:25
7:30 um wow we we've got a reprieve yeah I thought maybe there's something else going on I was like I was
47:31
like what's going on all these stories are disappearing before my eyes the Thanos snap let's uncut Apple music then
47:38
uh yeah we should we should definitely keep that story in um but I don't mind
47:43
if we cut out the accessory stories that people can go read those on their own and and uh then that way they can get
47:50
your take on those new accessories the magic Trackpad the Magic Mouse and the magic keyboard Griffin bottom at all I I
47:58
I I don't envy you and your return trip to the Apple Store when you walk in with all this stuff to return it and you're
48:05
like I'd like to return these things please and they're like there's like eight things here well I'm sorry they
48:11
should have just made them better I I was I was preparing to keep Magic Mouse but I just didn't like it so you
48:17
legitimately don't like them okay well that's fair I mean like if you're like I don't like this stuff man all right
48:23
Louis let's talk about something we're all going to like and definitely buy and keep the wallmounted the wallmounted
48:30
what did I say that's so weird I don't know wallmounted the wallmounted iPad yeah Apple's next big thing yeah
48:37
okay Apple plant to released quote a wallmounted display that can control appliances handle video conferencing and
48:44
use AI to navigate apps this report comes of course from your favorite gu
48:51
Bloom burst reporter yeah Mark Gman maybe you've heard of him anyway uh supposedly this it's going to be a
48:57
command center for Smart Homes supposedly be an inexpensive that part I don't believe
49:03
inexpensive wallmounted tablet likee computer used to control Smart devices and make video calls device also would
49:10
serve as an access point for the upcoming AI powered Siri which of course is going to be completely useful just
49:17
completely useful I cannot wait to start using how great it's going to be uh let's see device supposedly
49:23
includes a 6in touchcreen it looks like an iPad except that's small except with a square display and a significant
49:29
screen here's that word I hate to say because I always say it wrong bezel bezel bezel bezel you struggle with the
49:36
word bezel I I always struggle with it I don't that's like when people call Jeff Bezos Jeff Bezos screams me okay well
49:44
now now I believe that this will be inexpensive if it has a 6 inch screen that's tiny yeah it's probably going to
49:50
be you know kind of crappy screen I don't know anyway let's see uh Bloomberg describes
49:56
devices user interface as a blend of the Apple watch operating system and the
50:01
iPhone's recently launched standby mode okay that's interesting it's get get you know we've heard about this thing before
50:08
so these but these details are new and it makes it sound like kind of an interesting device right uh intent is
50:14
for users to talk to the wallmounted device more than tap on it this is a a
50:19
another quote from the German story quote a person familiar with its development said the product is designed
50:25
to bring Siri and Apple intelligence to life in a way that hasn't happened before hopefully that means it will
50:32
understand what you're saying is that the way I hope that's the way and actually uh provide answers to questions
50:38
you ask rather than saying check your iPhone I mean I I know I I know that we talk about this probably way too much
50:45
and and we should probably stop but I only bring it up because I am so surprised it is still so bad I talk to
50:53
Siri all the time and it just either it doesn't work at all so the dictation just just stops like the microphone's on
51:00
but you're talking and it's like not hearing anything that you're saying nothing shows up or it so horrendously
51:06
butchers what your sentence actually was that it it's an affront to Apple Fans
51:13
and Tech enthusiasts everywhere and whoever is responsible for this
51:19
Abomination should be tarred feathered sent to Siberia in prison and also
51:28
shot with a paintball gun I don't want them to be dead but I want them to be embarrassed you didn't let me finish
51:33
what what color paint well what's the most embarrassing Color Purple let's see
51:40
covered in tar you'd probably want it to be well but then the feathers are white and the tar is probably black so maybe
51:48
red black and red shoot them it'll be red paint something needs to be done
51:53
leis that's all I'm saying something needs to be done maybe we could get Trump to appoint
52:00
a new cabinet position fixture of Siri and dictation we need a new cabinet position
52:07
you know that that is has some kind of legal standing that's all I'm saying I think he'll let Tim Apple handle
52:13
that Sherman honey crisp maybe I don't know but somebody needs to fix this dang thing and I don't know why it's still
52:19
ongoing you know what I find amazing is when I'm using uh Apple music or or Apple TV and
52:28
I request the exact title of a of a show or a song or an album and it just can't
52:34
do it cannot do it and um I don't know man that that drives me mad carplay like
52:41
I I almost shot a like I was driving down the road at 70 miles hour so of course I'm not going to shoot a video but my wife and I driving down the road
52:47
and I said play you know this playlist it just went on and on saying sorry I can't do that what
52:54
playlist do you want to hear I'd say it again and it'd say what playlist you want to hear I I mean it was it was
52:59
almost enough to make me drive off the road in just a fit of rage anyway well so the good news is
53:05
that uh A fitting end for lisis wall that actually right off a cliff I
53:10
don't want you to die anytime soon Le but when you go I want it to be that way death by Siri he's just blinded by rage and he
53:18
just Kens right there some like California Mountain Highway road he just K right
53:24
off the cliff and with his car H the B it just explodes here's what I found on the web [Laughter]
53:32
for so uh so here's here's the little the Nugget that this would uh makes this all sound plausible even more plausible
53:39
you know I mean like I said we've been here about this for a while but so Apple's walm smart home device allegedly
53:44
will launch in March or could launch by March and uh that's about when the AI
53:50
enhanced Siri uh is supposed to debut right that's supposedly coming in iOS
53:55
18.4 or and so you know I mean would it
54:01
be embarrassing if if they release that and it is just as bad as it already is or it's like it's gonna be Lis it's
54:07
thinks a little more and and works a little less well it's gonna be oh my God I got
54:13
balloons Lis is triggering the uh the camera effects over there you did you did the peace sign yeah that must be it
54:19
oh it was a peace sign that did that I think so the doubles there oh that's confetti no confetti I don't know what
54:24
in the world I did what's this get me it's going to be bad man it's not going to be fixed I'll I'll be the first one
54:30
to celebrate when Tim Apple finally programs this himself and gets it working cuz we we definitely need it to
54:35
be fixed but I think that this new iPad is going to be probably the first to feature um like well first of all homeos
54:43
home OS to control your home devices and be able to interact with
54:51
your homekit devices and have something that's just always on which actually I think would be useful and something that
54:57
I would be interested in as long as it's cheap and if it's going to be 600 or uh if it's gonna have a six inch display I think it's gonna be cheap it has a small
55:03
display yeah so that's the last little bit here supposedly it's going to you know I this is speculation I suppose
55:09
perhaps around $200 Insider sources that would be a great price but then you know the more
55:15
costly followup the one with the robotic arm tabletop iPad on a robot arm that
55:20
one's going to be like I've heard closer to a grand which DOA man DOA
55:26
nobody wants a robotic arm for $1,000 so but but so seriously you think that so
55:31
you're saying oh this $200 thing sounds good well so you already have this on your phone you already have this on your
55:37
Apple TV you already have but we're talking about us man you got to open up the home app and then you got to like
55:43
interact with your devices and switch locations in my case you shouldn't have to you should just be able to say Hey
55:49
you know who do this I mean yeah you got it on your wrist for crying out loud who
55:56
doesn't there's no there's no consistent visual way to know what your options are
56:02
and interact with your home and I think that's why this is appealing it's like it's a control panel that's always on or
56:09
will probably always be on that probably shows you other things like maybe it can be a photo frame when it's not being
56:15
used but you can tap it and quickly that that the key word quickly access the
56:21
devices in your home and turn them on and off and make them do things I actually think that would be useful
56:27
you know I don't know I mean I've had various yeah I've had one right outside your bedroom door to turn off all the
56:32
dang lights people leave on at the end of the day yeah yeah yeah price you might even have multiple of these the
56:38
one thing that it does is if you you know you like mount it by your front
56:43
door or something then like if if your you know dog sitter comes over they can
56:49
manage all that stuff that's the the only real use case I see for it is people who aren't on your you know who
56:57
people who aren't you you know if you have visitors at your house like how they don't know how to that's the one
57:03
thing that's weird about getting all this stuff automated you know like you say turn on the lights and your friends
57:09
are like well they don't know they don't know all those uh they don't know how to turn on the lights if they they wake up
57:14
before you and they're go downstairs to make coffee how do they turn on the lights they don't know that's that's a great observation I have people come
57:21
over to my house wa no you go ahead Griffin do you think this product started
57:26
when all the Apple Senior vice presidents like went on a corporate retreat and realized like and just like
57:32
complains to each other about how like their housekeepers or whatever didn't didn't know how to do all these things
57:37
and like let's just let's just make this product for us yeah I think that I that you could be
57:44
right about that whenever I have people come to my house so we have a bunch of smart lights everywhere they never know how to turn the lights on and off and
57:52
they I'll come home and I'll try to turn my lights on and it's like they don't work because people have gone to the lamps and switched them off because
57:59
people just don't understand how these things work how to operate them and so in a way it makes controlling this smart
58:08
technology easier and more approachable by the plebs people who don't listen to
58:14
check podcast people who aren't you and your people on your uh your Apple
58:20
account yeah yeah which is I mean it's it's you know housekeepers dog sitters
58:25
friends guests yeah yeah I don't know I that's just that's the one thing that makes sense to
58:31
me because I can't imagine like where would I put this in my house that I would use it I because I always have my
58:37
phone I always have my watch I don't need another way to turn things on and off I mean I need a reliable way it
58:43
would be nice if my watch and my phone were reliable but why would this be reliable but my phone is not yeah yeah I
58:50
get you uh well I'll look be looking forward to that if it is $200 then I got
58:56
a $200 purchase in my feature speaking of purchases in my feature did y all see that Nintendo released a new alarm clock
59:03
called the alarmo yeah what a quirky bizarre product this is and I don't know why but
59:09
I want it so bad it's $100 what it's a $100 alarm clock let's see if I can
59:14
bring this up let's see a picture uh Nintendo but you can only buy it in true
59:19
Nintendo fashion if you're if you have a Nintendo online membership and the thing
59:25
play like music and it looks like a cartoon
59:30
alarm clock with a screen on it basically is animated like characters on the front like you can have it Mario
59:37
themed or Zelda themed or Animal Crossing themed it plays music from the video games to like wake you up and like
59:43
set the mood to go to bed is that big white thing on the top is that a snooze button it's like a it's like a dial and
59:50
also a button oh yeah so it like helps you to interact with it and I guess the thing has like camera in it and when it
59:57
sees you waking up it will play like game sounds like motivate you to actually like wake up God that's what I
1:00:02
mean hey look this thing looks cool man I I kind of want to buy one just to try it out but when I was a kid we all had
1:00:08
the same alarm clock it was called the Sony dream machine and they that that was a
1:00:14
misnomer because it should have been called The Nightmare inducer it its alarm would
1:00:21
go and that's how it woke you up there was no gradual
1:00:27
you know uh raising of the volume there were no Pleasant noises that thing was designed to do one thing terrify you
1:00:33
until you got up out of your bed and it did that and now all these all these
1:00:39
kids oh it's Mario he's it's a me Mario time to get up you know oh Zelda oh you
1:00:46
know playing music gradually uplifting the volume to not disturb you too too
1:00:52
quickly while you're in bed oh I still want one but 99 bucks dude
1:00:58
$100 expensive I know it is expensive leave it to Nintendo to come up with a
1:01:05
quirky product speaking of Quirky products talking about a segue my goodness could John grber pull
1:01:11
that off I doubt it let's talk about another quirky product that year probably think it's overpriced and yet
1:01:17
you should probably buy Apple music turns it's 100 best albums list into a
1:01:22
$450 coffee table book I thought that the story was fake and yet here it is
1:01:28
it's actually real which I did not realize Apple released its best 100 best
1:01:35
albums list gradually online over 10 days in mate some people Express shock at the number one pick 1998's the
1:01:43
miseducation of Lauren Hill look that was a great song it it it was one of the
1:01:48
best of its time number one no way number one no way I I mean I could put
1:01:53
Jamir Quai ahead of Lauren Hill but maybe not all J oh my God that's the
1:01:59
second time in one week I've heard that word spoken aloud yeah it's not spoken much time and I'm gonna get Beetle
1:02:05
Juiced and that and that lead singer is goingon to show up start dancing in your living room and he'll never leave um now
1:02:13
you might be shocked that you're being asked to pay $450 for a fancy limited edition coffee table book version of the
1:02:20
of that whole list this is actually being produced by Apple music uh in collaboration with the luxury book brand
1:02:27
auline auline it's it's gasoline without the g yep yeah I was going to say it's okay uh
1:02:36
the book spans 208 pages and includes 97 illustrations mostly album art um it
1:02:42
weighs 8 lbs its exterior is all white with no markings which sounds like apple design a transparent acrylic slip case
1:02:49
includes title information the Apple music logo and etched Edition uh number
1:02:55
identifying your book Edition number so there's only going to be 1500 of these made which is why if you haven't
1:03:01
pre-ordered they're probably already sold out and the only reason I thought this story was interesting was you
1:03:07
remember that dang book that Johnny I released what was that thing called I it just designed in California
1:03:14
in California I wish I bought one me too everyone does because those things not just to sell but like I generally would have wanted to have keep it on my coffee
1:03:22
table and now they're like thousands of dollars on eBay they are extremely expensive they have they have gone way
1:03:29
up in price because Johnny IV is obviously no longer at Apple and the book is now a collector's item and so if
1:03:35
you got one of those books that I've made I mean you could sell it for thousands of dollars now I think leard
1:03:41
got one didn't he he actually bought one I think he might have yeah I think I
1:03:47
think I remember him saying that he did get one I mean you know I realize they're all limited edition and
1:03:52
everything but I mean come on at Le that book was about something everybody likes this is this is like a bunch of album
1:03:59
covers and a a bunch of album horrible list everyone hates I mean well not
1:04:04
albums everyone hates but I mean it albums most it's 100% different from that that apple design whatever is
1:04:10
designed by Apple book totally it's it that the design by Apple book was a celebration of industrial design and the
1:04:18
work that went into creating some of the best products that ever existed this is
1:04:24
a book full of album art for a list of songs that some editor at
1:04:30
Apple music thought were good and it's a celebration of what they love not a celebration of what we love it's
1:04:36
completely different and so for that reason I am boycotting this book I will not be buying one leis and neither will
1:04:43
the two of you that's absolutely true and unlike the design and apple book this book will only go down in value
1:04:50
once you buy it you will realize what a waste of money it was yes Lou go ahead Proclamation you know every day in the
1:04:56
newsletter uh Leander puts in a poll The Cult of mday newsletter which
1:05:02
I'm sure everybody is already signed up of course I hope so it's fantastic free newsletter straight from the mind of
1:05:08
Leander kany but somehow if you aren't you can go to newsletters. cult.com or cult.com newsletter and sign up right
1:05:15
now that's true Griffin is by the way a very good impersonation of how AI ought to
1:05:21
work uh so suspiciously so so leander's uh one of his whole questions was you
1:05:28
know should you buy this book or or do you plan to buy this book and and the the first comedy we got was like are you
1:05:35
kidding I wouldn't pay $450 for a book of my own family historical
1:05:42
photos maybe maybe maybe his family sucks I've got a bunch of images from my
1:05:51
family history like when my ancestors came here in Landon in New York and
1:05:56
there was this one with I think like a I don't know who he was to me like my
1:06:02
great uncle or great-grandfather or something I don't even know who he was great uncle zeppo he was driving like uh
1:06:11
1945 you know it it looked like the car Biff tannan drove and Back to the Future
1:06:17
2 I mean it was like a Ford solid steel car this thing was absolutely beautiful
1:06:24
he's dressed in like this doot suit with like this you know impeccable uh style to it and he had
1:06:31
like the hat and everything I to get a smoke hang out of his mouth I was like this is cool man these guys are cool
1:06:37
like like it's really when you see pictures of your long lost relatives it's actually it there's something
1:06:44
there's something spiritual about that it connects you to a piece of you that you didn't know about and uh so maybe my
1:06:51
family but if your family sucks I can totally get why you wouldn't want to do that you know it's like my family has
1:06:56
been in Ohio for you know 400 years and they've just been farming the whole time it's like okay well maybe maybe that
1:07:02
wouldn't be as cool actually I think that would still be cool you get a picture of like your great great great grandfather on some rickety old tractor
1:07:10
from like 1745 and he's like in the corn field he's got a pipe hanging out of his mouth
1:07:17
it's like I'm I can just point my camera outside right now you can see that he's still out there he's still out there
1:07:22
he's out there right now he's 185 years old he but he's been living clean you know I
1:07:28
don't know I feel like that's pretty cool anyway I digress I I don't know what we should do next probably just end the show would be my guess so I'm going
1:07:35
to go ahead and just press the button and say my friends that's it that's all the cult cast we
1:07:41

1:07:47

1:08:18
support get this platform up off the ground but that's it we're going to wrap it up there that's all the cool cast we
1:08:24

1:08:44
him for two weeks oh really yesterday I was an absolute vocal fact stim of
1:08:50
Robert F Kennedy Jr my voice sounded exactly like him cuz while the cough I've been doing I've been talking like
1:08:57
this we' had to cancel the podcast I could have take an out of that no way we're doing it live Louis you think you
1:09:03
can leave the FDA is is is that hey the guy can do like 100
