1:19
just starts pouring in on this show of course it doesn't help me any Louis we got to get that checking account

welcome everyone hey if you all would move to the center of the rows and let's
1:44
populate the front rows first because we got thousands of people on the way we want to make space for everyone all
1:50
right and um get cozy let's get this thing
1:55
rolling uh I think we're ready to roll although I have this horrible feeling that we're forgetting something
2:01
important and usually when I have that it's something that actually is did you tweet the tweet I have it locked and
2:08
loaded ready got SP let's see if that worked there you go
2:15
LS I think I just injured my vocal cords all right

2:35
[Laughter] Chat hey you know what I for for those
2:40
people that are in the very exclusive cult club we need to make that happen
2:45
here's the problem I keep asking people what they want to do and no one replies so I'm like does no one want to shout
2:51
out does no one want to like come on and and be on with us uh I think they do but
2:56
we're going to have to figure out how to make get some more interaction but we're definitely going to have Hugo on for sure he's coming on we he me and Hugo we
3:02
uh we've been communicating that the communication line has been established on the on just need to see it happen
3:08
first and then they'll be like oh I could done that too that could be me I think you're right like I would love to have people from the show who listen to
3:15
the show on the show firm handshakes all around exactly PDX Jake that's that's my
3:20
motto all right let's go ahead and uh
3:26
ceue up Mrs D oh Mrs d [Laughter]
3:31
Mrs D oh my dear did somebody say firm oh Mrs D hold it right there you're
3:37
going to give poor Lewis a heart attack look at him he's about to kill over sideways that's not true El was last
3:46
night I was trying to come to terms with it and then I don't know you inside coming you couldn't help it oh just D
3:53
I'm trying to take a positive attitude that was repulsive real hard absolutely disgusting look what you did to Lewis if
4:00
you don't mind Mrs d none of us want to hear any more about any of that what we want to do is get to this week's Apple
4:06
stories and uh get this show on the road so if you don't mind clean up your act
4:12
and we'll get this thing going in three two hello and welcome to the coasts 30
4:20
plus an apple conversation you're going to have all week long I'm your host last join me today an imprint of his pinky
4:26
ring has been left on the forehead of many ult ma right some saying it's a right of passage he's
4:33
a managing editor of CAC leis Wallace is here it's really great to be here you
4:39
really should get that ring on for the show so people can see what we're talking about says LW also with us the
4:46
beautiful collection of retired computers sitting behind him is all the more impressive when you know it's the
4:53
result of years of dumpster diving at Apple Stores Best Buys circuit cities
4:59
even out of the uh dumpster with needles stuck in him several times thankfully
5:04
the diseases he catched not curable he's a right cat Griffin Jones is
5:11
here most of the uh vintage computers in my collection are actually eBay finds oh
5:16
yeah yeah yeah how much I have a number of saved searches for for a few things
5:21
that I that I'm still looking out for emate yeah yeah I I would like an emate
5:27
that would be cool what else are you trying to get your hands on there Griffin I mean uh I have a saved search
5:32
for a next station turbo color oh dude it's mostly which which are listed
5:39
on eBay pretty often but they're just always outside my price range so I get that email in the morning I'm like oh I
5:45
wish how much does something like that cost you said a next station next station is the the the
5:52
like you know pizza box style slab computer and it's the the turbo is the fastest model of it and the the I i'
5:58
like the version with a color screen as well CU that beun okay I'm trying to pull this up for those of you watching any of our lovely
6:05
listeners are would be willing to part with one for a significantly decreased you never know man I have gotten so many
6:11
hookups from our listeners um and that that's not a that's not a humble brag like some people are incredibly generous
6:17
and have given or offered stuff trying to pull this up oh a few Nona computers
6:23
as well there's um a British computer called the amstrad pcw 16 it's kind of
6:29
like a Macintosh and that it has like a black and white display but it had like its own custom software for it it's kind
6:35
of like an advanced word processing machine it looks really neat dude the next station looks like a PS4 I mean it
6:40
looks exactly like a PS4 oh yeah yeah look at the um I don't know what you call that the stand for
6:47
the monitor look how beautiful that thing is weird look I mean dude Steve Jobs I look at the mouse everything
6:54
about this computer is beautiful he just was able to inspire people or maybe
6:59
allow people within the company to be in a position where they could have a
7:05
product that looks like this I mean this thing just looks beautiful this is so farad time yeah the metal that it's made
7:12
out of isn't aluminum or titanium it's magnesium wow yeah it's made out of
7:18
magnesium that's actually quite a uh some inscrutable reason because why not was a dietary supplement I I've never
7:25
heard of anything being made out of magnesium well that was the that was the secondary benefit you could lick it
7:31
twice per day and you could have your magnesium input what about milk of magnesium is that what it's called milk
7:36
of magnesium that's a different product you want to be careful with that I think that comes from
7:42
goats yeah milk of Amnesia maybe that's what
7:47
I've got I think you have been sipping that for sure that might be true where
7:53
are we going what are we doing I think I had a couple gulps of that as well all right um yeah so we got a lot of great
8:00
stories to cover here today well look that might be an embellishment but let me bring up my notes and I'll give you
8:05
the quick rundown um we're going to be talking about or we're going to be doing a deep dive into all the best parts of
8:11
the new M4 iPad Pro I don't Griffin do you have this did you buy one of these or no these were taken out of Ed Hardy's
8:19
uh thorough review I wasn't sure we're gonna talk about all the AI features head to iPhone Mac and iPad well we got
8:26
some Siri updates uh that I'll give you I'm sure you're terribly excited for those I got a big leak for iPhone 16 I
8:34
think we know the new color leis I think we know the new color is it Buster heiny bronze stay tuned stay tuned yeah I'm
8:41
sure I'm sure we got more details on the iPhone slim the interesting permutation
8:47
of iPhone that apple is working on um Lewis is GNA probably go full old man
8:54
mode and talk and complain about why these albums that Apple has chose for the best albums of all time are
9:00
extremely controversial oh my goodness look at number 10 okay I might be with you here what look at number one now
9:09
look that was a great album but okay well we'll talk about this what are you talking about clearly I was wrong that
9:15
that apple or that album was the jam um in my younger days but number one we and
9:21
we have an all new Under review I think Griffin's got something he's going to pitch I've got something that I'm going to pitch that I have really been
9:28
enjoying um and so we'll do all that and more a couple of quick announcements so
9:33
just really quickly um yes it's been a couple weeks since off topic has been out and it's only because I have been so
9:41
busy I have not been able to edit the episodes and release them we have two locked and loaded that we recorded so those will be coming out one will
9:46
definitely be coming out tonight I might just release both but maybe I'll do one today and then one this weekend and then
9:52
we have some future off topic off topics that we're going to be recording we were thinking about doing
9:58
one on the state of movie pass just to kind of cover that story cuz oh yeah it's still going and also what it's like
10:05
trying to buy a car in today's car market because we were all talking about that and just how insane things are
10:11
right now so we might do that as well and then also I just want to mention real fast if you're ever interested in
10:16
watching the episodes that we do I should probably bring this up more we created a URL just go to watch.the
10:23
cultcast dcom watch.the cultcast
10:29
want to and and go check those out then the newest ones are always available there and the entire list is available
10:34
there so if you ever bored and you're like I really want to do something with my life today well give us some views on
10:40
the channel because every view that you give us is like 0.005 cents for us in advertising Revenue which you know every
10:47
half penny counts just open up a stream and a tab and let it go until your browser crashes I can either I just AOW
10:53
I don't think that YouTube allows such a thing but if you're a you're a cast
10:58
comption I usually cut out some bits of the the pre-show out of the YouTube live
11:03
stream so if you want to see like absolutely everything that we say and do then you can watch the YouTube version for for 100% completion that's actually
11:10
true because we usually do five to 10 minutes of pre-show that does not make it into the recorded show just because
11:15
we're not organized enough to actually have any topics we just sit here and talk about whatever and honestly that
11:21
might be the best part of the show I'm like not joking that might be the best part of the show It's usually the most fun part of the
11:27
show uh where should I go first let me talk about
11:35
notion notion.com
11:42
cultcast notion is a place where any team can write plan organize and
11:48
ReDiscover the joy of play how you say notion combines your notes and docs into one space that's simple and beautifully
11:55
designed with the power of AI built right inside and not some separate AI tool or browser tab that you have to go
12:02
use but it is Way Beyond notes I bring this up quite often you think it's just
12:08
a Notes app but it's a full-on uh project management app as well I mean imagine if you're trying to collaborate
12:14
on a YouTube channel trying to figure out what needs to be done and when it's not easy to do that with a team but with
12:21
notion you can create a task list and then assign different statuses to those
12:27
tasks and then assign own ship of those tasks to people so that you can actually go and get work done there's a lot of
12:34
project management apps that are out there that are way too overkill for I think most people which is why I like
12:40
notion you have all of your notes in one app and within your notes you can just assign things to people so that things
12:45
will actually start getting done and then of course there is the AI stuff where you can invoke a AI to write copy
12:53
for you and and uh to do all sorts of busy work that you don't want to spend your time doing it's a great
12:59
way to start brainstorming on ideas to get answers to questions I'm just
13:05
scratching the surface here and I have been surprised to learn that a lot of people especially in the creative space
13:10
use notion to manage their projects and keep all their notes because it does way
13:15
more than Apple notes will probably ever do so if you haven't checked it out yet
13:22
just go give it a try uh try notion for free when you go to notion.com cultcast that's all lowercase letters notion
13:29
/cast and start turning ideas into action and when you use our link you're supporting our show which we appreciate
13:35
that's notion.com cultcast for the first story live from some place in Ohio we're
13:43
sending it to Griffin let's talk about the best parts of the M4 iPad Pro which no Griffin I have not purchased yet I
13:50
know that's coming I have not purchased one yet retive I am probably gon to buy one
13:57
though because this is I think in my opinion the biggest Leap
14:02
Forward in iPads that we've ever received and I definitely want one but I'm going to wait for it to hit the refurbished store I don't need one yet
14:08
that's the problem with the iPad you just never need to replace it they last like 15 years or until you crack the screen or your kid cracks the screen
14:15
right out for you buy it that's also an option that that is the voice of someone who has definitely had that happen to
14:20
them before and my daughter's like I didn't know putting my knee on it would hurt it oh well I guess we both learned a
14:27
hard lesson today you learned that iPads are not indestructible and I learned never buy a brand new iPad for your kids
14:34
sorry Griffin I digress well anyways we've been talking about the iPads for you know a couple
14:41
weeks now but Ed Hardy has uh you know he's he's the the iPad guy called ma he uses it every day for his as his only
14:49
computer for doing all of his work so he is really the guy to do the review of this and he's I've picked out a few uh
14:56
interesting details from his review that I don't think we've really heard talked about elsewhere you know the kind of
15:03
stuff that you can't get you know just from reading about it online so what stands out most about Apple's new tablet
15:10
is that it's noticeably lighter and visibly thinner than its predecessors without compromising any of the other features the screen looks better the
15:16
performance is improved and the battery life is unaffected it really is amazing the nearly quarter pound
15:22
decrease and the weight of the M4 iPad Pro makes laying uh makes laying back on the couch and reading undenied more
15:29
comfortable the M4 iPad Pro here's an interesting tidbit is 50% thinner than
15:35
the iPhone 15 plus wow we all knew that it was the thinnest Apple device ever but like 50% thinner than a current
15:42
model iPhone that's kind of crazy the screen of the M4 iPad Pro you
15:47
know utilizes what Apple calls tandem OLED technology that Stacks two OLED panels on top of each other for greater
15:53
full screen brightness um which we' heard about but to get a different perspective on it Ed spoke with Ross
16:00
young the CEO of display display supply chain Consultants who said quote tandem
16:07
OLED panels significantly boost emitting efficiency lifetime brightness and
16:12
reduce Burnin one of the suppliers of the tandem OLED panels on the iPad Pro LG display has indicated that tandem
16:20
panels offer 1.5 to 2x higher efficiency 4X higher Lifetime and cut power
16:28
consumption by 40% while boosting brightness by 30% I don't understand how
16:33
they Implement a tandem OLED I mean once you put two olets together together isn't that just one OLED at that
16:41
point think it's two separate panels but it is it is driving it as if it's one display so like from the iPad's
16:47
perspective like the processor is only drawing the screen once and sending that out of the display controller but then
16:53
it's just outputting that to two separate panels that are stacked on top of each other so like one of the top half one the lower
17:00
no they're they're actually like two displays that cover the entire surface of the display but they're just on top
17:05
of each other like on the Z AIS so like one like sandwiched like an ice cream sandwich of display so this kind of goes
17:12
back to our maybe conversation last week where if you have two of these panels
17:18
together neither of them ever needs to get as bright or reach their Max brightness which is what I think causes
17:24
Burnin if you have oleds that are too bright for too long it can cause bur in
17:29
so maybe that's how they achieve a reduction in burn in anyway sorry you're
17:34
probably going to read this in the next paragraph It's probably in there I'm just oh yeah I bet I bet that's it because like I have an old iPhone 10
17:40
that I got from a friend when they upgraded their phone and like if you it it looks perfectly fine in normal usage
17:47
but if you turn the screen completely white and turn the brightness up you can see exactly the sorts of things that
17:52
burned into the display like you can see a little square from where the Apple Maps app shows the uh the speed limit
17:59
sign you can see like tabs on the bottom of the screen that are bured in from like the the Facebook tabs that are on
18:05
the bottom of the Facebook app like stuff like that so I bet I'm I'm really interested when they're going to bring a
18:10
tandem Ola display to the iPhone if ever maybe this year maybe next year maybe maybe it's you know such an expensive
18:17
technology that it'll be a while on a lower margin device I don't know um it
18:23
is also the first OLED tablet panel with what is called a rigid plus thin film
18:28
and encapsulation substrate oh um I I don't really know what that is but Apple
18:34
required the panel suppliers to chemically etch the single substrate from .5 millimet down to .2 millimeters
18:40
making it even thinner so that that that's partly why it's so thin um iPad Pro Models with one
18:48
terabyte or more of storage also come with a higher spec version of the M4 chip with 10 cores iPads with a lower
18:55
spec storage get lower spec chips with only nine cores I believe we we knew about that and I think the open question
19:02
was well how much of a difference is that going to make you know is is it do you really need to avoid the lower spec
19:09
model but uh Ed ran some geekbench tests he got a multi-course score of
19:16
13,272 whereas the higher spec models score about 14,600 so from that we can learn that
19:23
it's really not a significant difference in speed between the two you know you don't have to worry about getting the
19:28
one with all of the cores uh finally um a lot of people have been
19:35
asking and you know writing spewing thousands of words in the iPad discourse
19:41
about ah why do people need so much power why does the why does an iPad you know need need such a powerful chip iPad
19:47
OS is is wasted uh well it turns out that like the thin design seems to be
19:52
like largely enabled by the efficiency gains of the M4 uh Ed writes that
19:57
without the M4 a larger battery would have been necessary and you can see that the like physical capacity of the
20:03
battery has gotten smaller but it actually offers improved battery life because the M4 is so fast
20:10
and efficient and you know that that's only enabled with like the latest generation of Apple
20:16
silicon um and he he concludes that finally the lightweight of the M4 iPad Pro is a real game Cher it means I use
20:23
the 2024 version more than its predecessor and honestly it makes my iPhone seem thick
20:29
so well this kind of ties into the whole iPhone slim discussion which is a really
20:36
interesting new product direction for Apple to create a phone that is going to
20:42
be so slim that they think it's worth calling it the iPhone slim and and it
20:47
seems as though what they're doing with the iPad is coming in iPhone 17 and
20:52
there's going to be like a slim option like this is a preview of where we're headed for iPhone 17 it seems if you
20:58
could get a phone that's Slimmer but sturdier more rigid and have it have the
21:03
same battery life and and better performance but also be significantly Slimmer like I don't I don't know if
21:09
that's exactly where we're headed because they're removing the backlight from iPads which I think allows them to
21:16
make the iPad much Slimmer because now it's OLED and it's self-illuminating pixels and stuff and you already have
21:21
those in the iPhones but if you could make something that's super slim but also extremely rigid obviously that's
21:27
going to be a big part of it right we don't want an iPhone 6 uh situation on our hands although maybe we do that'd be
21:34
great that'd be great for our show and for um you know people making YouTube videos I guess but for us actual
21:40
consumers not really something that you want to have bending in your pocket as you're I keep minding my backpack it all
21:46
the time it's pretty much where it lives now although I did just get a new fanny pack and I might start putting it in there for uh oh de you really yeah you
21:53
know what leis I'm I I I I'm not ashamed I proudly
21:59
wear a fanny pack in some instances because that phone is so dang big and I just switched jeans like I got new jeans
22:07
and these new jeans like the old jeans that I had were slim but they were discontinued by Levis and so I'm trying
22:14
a new model and I was like these these jeans are even Slimmer than the old jeans and I don't even know I don't even
22:20
know if I could fit anything in the pockets anymore so I might have to go just a fanny P full time so you went for
22:26
the you wear around the house huh okay what well I didn't wear the fanny pack around the house that'd be weird Louis that would
22:34
but out in public and you know what Lis I'm going to Disneyland in uh
22:40
September and I was thinking you know how nice would it be to have a fanny pack where I can hold my wallet my phone
22:48
although I guess my phone does hold my wallet since it's a MAG safe wallet and just not to not have to have anything in my pockets you
22:54
know look at you over there so judgmental you know don't like you didn't have a fanny pack in the early
23:00
80s I know that you did I think I had one at one point and I don't think I
23:06
ever used it at all uhhuh maybe maybe only when
23:12
you were rollerblading and your SP something there was some there was some situation where I had to like
23:19
work I can't remember what it was but uh yeah come on really Fanny okay maybe
23:25
they make come back I don't know maybe we should do an off topic on this yeah off topics audio only that would work I
23:30
want to know if your panny pack is covered in rhinestones how did you know
23:36
L well it's not complete yet I'm adding the rhinestones but dazzling because I like to do my
23:44
initials so I'm working on it I'm only like two-thirds of the way done it's beautiful I'll send you a picture yeah I
23:50
don't know if you guys are interested in my jeans we could talk about jeans in a future off topic I don't know how many would actually be interested in that but
23:57
they are slim man I mean holy moly sometimes too slim it's like it's almost it's borderline those uh new baseball
24:06
outfits which team was that L do you know was it like the minor league team I think it was the Giants okay really like
24:13
this the see-through pants yeah right yeah awesome please tell me your new jeans
24:19
have a just a a a little bit of coverage and B uh a little bit of stretch they
24:24
actually are stretchy almost all skinny jeans have stretch built in because otherwise you wouldn't be able to move
24:30
in them because they they're so slim um I haven't shined any bright lights on them yet so we'll have to do a
24:36
see-through test at some point but you know we'll see all right sorry are we
24:42
completely off track are we completely off topic should I going to baseball is is way outside of my wheelhouse of
24:48
contributing to the discussion yeah I don't have much to say about baseball either to be honest yeah yeah I I really
24:54
think that uh fanny packs just have a marketing problem I think they be more popular if people just called them like
25:00
you know tactical utility belts or something like that sales would go through the roof amongst a certain demograph you know you might be right I
25:06
mean fanny packs is a dated term I mean it's like it's it's on your fanny I mean first of all who calls it that anymore
25:12
and no one actually wears them on their fan it's a terrible name yeah it's not good you're you're absolutely on something with the Tactical the Tactical
25:19
you know mini go bag as long as you don't call it a MERS it's a MSE
25:28
I'm not sure if it's going to catch on I mean look I'm willing to experiment I'll I'll try it on and I feel like if you
25:34
don't have space in your pockets it's it's something to try and when you're going to Disneyland all bets are off man
25:41
because you're going to be walking around for like you know 12 hours a day so there's things that you do in that
25:46
situation you got to do what you got to do to survive so a tactical Disney bag
25:52
might be a way to describe it right you're going into Disney you're going to be there for 12 to 14 hours you got to do what you have to do
25:58
it's really great at a like if you're going to a place of like real roller coasters too where you want to like take your phones and your glasses out off
26:04
your face and out of your pockets before each ride it's one thing you put it everything in the bag while you're waiting in line then that's like just
26:10
one thing you can put in the little cubby hole and just pick up on that's totally right that's totally right I mean it it is theme park
26:15
strategy I would say 2011 it's not even 101 it's for people that have been there before it's like there are certain
26:21
situations that you find yourself in in the theme park you're getting splashed there's bars coming down pressing on
26:26
your lap you're constantly sitting down and stuff all day so so yeah you you got to have a way to protect your
26:33
gear when the roller coasters are near you can have that maybe uh maybe it's
26:40
just all about the design maybe the design just needs to be a little less yeah Fanny Packy okay I I I I maybe I'll
26:47
try to bring the bag next episode and I'll Stand Up and y'all can see it I have no sh I have no shame showing it to
26:53
you oh boy here we go uh we should probably continue with the Apple conversation though what do you think
26:59
yeah so airone you said you're waiting to buy the IAD refurbished yes I'm waiting for the iPad
27:05
Pro to hit the refurbished store I have had an offer for uh somebody within the
27:12
Apple ecosystem to get me a discount on that so that will be 15% off I don't
27:17
know any Apple employees that have their 25% offs available on iPads which is fine they all use them for themselves I
27:23
thought that was incredibly selfish but you know whatever so I'll be reduced to getting the that would be reduced to
27:29
getting the 15% off which will work if it's in a refurbished situation then you end up getting a 30% total discount
27:36
because the refurbished discount is usually 15% from Apple so that's actually a really good deal I don't know how long it will be I mean it kind of
27:43
sucks to wait but I don't need a new iPad my my 2019 iPad still does
27:49
literally everything I needed to do and for the use cases that I have for it it
27:55
performs exactly the way I needed to so I don't really need an iPad but the OLED screen is such a massive Improvement and
28:02
I think the battery life is going to be such a big deal I'm also thinking about going to the 13inch because it's going
28:08
to be lighter weight now so I think for me it will be a big Improvement just in general daily daily
28:16
use and then also it's the perfect flight entertainment machine I mean you
28:22
take a 13-inch iPad on an airplane with airpods Max and watch movies on that
28:27
thing it's like it just doesn't get better than that maybe Vision Pro but I want to have some situational awareness
28:33
like having the Vision Pro on my face during a flight I feel like would make me nervous because I already get flight
28:39
anxiety and so having that thing and just not knowing what's going on or who's walking by me or anything I I feel
28:45
like would be too anxiety inducing for me like I want to know what's going on so I kind of like the fact that if you
28:52
know turbulence hits I can just turn my iPad off and White Knuckle the the the
28:59
hand grips on my seat and pray for 10 minutes and maybe assume the crash
29:05
position depends on how uh how AES I get and then when it ends you know kind of
29:11
go back to being normal I have to like deal with this ginormous you know Vision Pro that's strapped in my head for the whole
29:20
time all right then let's continue who's the story next I think it might be
29:28
maybe oh wow oh no Lewis I missed
29:34
a the uh Mr the segue well I think silence could be a natural segue we just
29:40
sit there awkwardly for 10 seconds no one says anything and that's how we know it's time to move on actually wrote it
29:45
off to I thought it was uh Griffin's Broadband uh oh his Ohio Broadband he Wasing so still we thought that he was
29:53
frozen I thought so but he wasn't have to go run outside he was just bored the
29:58
router it's gas powered right no he can just have his goat do that all right Louis tell us about all
30:06
the AI features headed for Ione news flash news flash AI powered features are coming
30:11
to you're going to make iOS 18 Mac os5 and iPad OS 18 the biggest upgrades to
30:17
Apple's Platforms in many years big big big changes all coming very soon we all
30:23
know Apple scram going to hop on the I AI hype train you know Tim Cook's been talking it up like every other Tech
30:28
executive on the planet these days but uh we got some specifics about what's on the way and this this stuff I as much as
30:35
I pay attention to this stuff and as much as I am annoyed by this stuff uh this stuff sounds kind of interesting uh
30:41
some some details cobbled together from various leaks uh this is a big Roundup that uh was put together by Ed for our
30:48
site so uh first the Safari web browser it's reportedly going to get intelligent
30:54
search an option to summarize the contents of a web page so the reader can quickly get the gist huh which sounds a
31:01
lot like AI or sorry Google's AI search results I mean this is like every AI
31:07
engine that does this now but but this is probably going to B be based off of GPT chat GPT so if it is it's going to
31:16
be the best it's gonna be the best what's around it's kind of peculiar
31:21
thinking how that might work right I mean so you go what you go to the web page you see a story and you say hey uh
31:27
I don't want to read this 2word New York Times story can you just please give me a summary I guess that's what it would
31:32
be it's it's basically going to turn every website into uh what's that one I
31:38
can't remember the name of it now there's some website that everything they write is like the axios every every story is like that bullet points oh
31:45
really all broken down yeah huh you familiar with axios uh I've heard of them I have never visited
31:53
axios there been a lot of news sites like that but I think they're the most popular where like like there have been dedicated news apps before it's like
31:59
every story is just like five bullet points too and they've come and going over the years oh wow this is interesting all right so here's guy used
32:06
to work for one of those yeah and it it went but uh that's hilarious I mean this
32:11
looks exactly like a show notes first of all it looks like all they did is just take their paragraphs and
32:19
put them into bullet points although they did definitely reduce the amount of writing here because every bullet point seems to be one sentence this is all you
32:26
need this is all you need for a new site we don't need all the hundreds of pages of exposition only the
32:33
facts ma'am right I mean I can imagine I mean there A lot of times where I start reading a story and it's like 1500 words
32:39
and I get like you know 600 words into it and I've been interrupted 16 times by
32:46
text messages and slack messages and phone calls and everything else and I'm just like I cannot I want to know what
32:51
it this all about but I can't get to the end of it you know Apple pops up a magic button would you like to summarize this
32:57
boom there it is yeah it's useful it might actually be good uh let's see what
33:03
else they got on the uh things a little more controversial the uh Safari web
33:08
eraser feature that supposedly will quote remove ads or other unwanted
33:14
website content wow that comes that's from the financial times uh of course
33:19
you know news sites might not I mean websites that operate and make all their money off of advertising I can't think
33:25
of any off the top of my head but they might uh not be that happy about that kind of a
33:30
situation uh let's see we've I guess I wrote a post about
33:36
this a while back uh AI powered cleanup feature supposedly coming to the Apple photos app that could let users
33:41
eliminate unwanted objects from images much like every other photo editing app that's out there these days uh Apple
33:48
notes might get better at correcting spelling and grammar mistakes thanks to AI could also recommend complete
33:53
rewarding of what the user re wrote to what the user wrote to make communication
34:00
clearer I mean are they trying to put every editor and news site out of I'm starting to get nervous now you you're
34:06
perspiring a lot I just noticed oh dear Heavens oh dear Heavens you're going full bomber over there like I see like
34:13
should have become a carpenter let's see uh assumed Apple Mail be able to summarize emails stand because that's a
34:19
standard feature in rival apps y uh messages app should be able to summarize sequence uh you know a sequence a series
34:27
summarize a sequence of text messages also they're going to have this thing that's going to allow you to speak in
34:32
complete sentences and read properly I mean that right there alone would be the
34:38
Marquee feature it's like Siri actually understands what you're saying now that would be a massive Leap Forward for
34:45
Siri one of the things that uh you know hearing about all this it's like oh is a whole lot of
34:51
like catchup and you know me too features built you know like
34:58
all these other things you know all all these other photos and all you but the thing is I think what Apple's going to
35:03
do is take just a sprinkling of these things and it's going to be in the thing you already use you don't have to go you
35:09
know like the power of the Apple ecosystem right it's at your fingertips you already have all these apps on your
35:15
phone and so now you're just GNA in instead of having to like have some special
35:21
AI photo app or some special AI this that or the other app right they're just
35:26
it'll just be there and you know what probably be just good enough to suit the needs of Everyday People yeah I am
35:33
curious to see how fast these things run considering they're going to try and do as much of this on device as possible sorry Griffin what you gonna say to me
35:40
this sounds like the kind of problem that uh Apple project managers or Executives these this is trying to solve
35:47
their problem which is like ah I'm I'm such an incredibly busy person that I can't keep up with all the things going on and so basically all these features
35:54
are summarize this for me summarize that for me because I I don't have enough time to like asou is I don't have enough
35:59
time to like read a full article or you know read all these work messages but like as an ordinary person who's not
36:05
anle executive I I don't feel like I have a problem with that what I would most like to see is uh and I think what
36:13
I what I've maybe mentioned on this show before as like a theory of what I think they could be doing because it would I think it would be like TR awesome would
36:20
be to have a AI focused or like you know natural language input that trained on
36:28
the series shortcuts or like you know the whole shortcuts system of like you know
36:33
plugins inside these apps so that you can just say to you know a voice assistant like you know hey when I when I come
36:41
home turn on this and do this with my smart home and open this app and turn off this Focus mode and you know when I
36:47
when I when I when I get to my car you know start playing this podcast or stuff like that because like series shortcuts
36:54
is incredibly powerful but nobody knows how to use it like Ordinary People don't don't set up
36:59
series shortcuts on their own time that that's a good point because uh you could do a lot of stuff with that but you
37:04
almost have to be like a oder to do it and it's their support is surprisingly
37:11
bad for that I mean considering they show you how to do everything else but then you start using serious shortcuts
37:16
and I I've set some up and once in a while they work great for a long time and something changes I don't know what
37:21
it doesn't work and and like trying to get it back is like uh of course because I don't do it every day right like I one
37:29
day spent four hours setting up a shortcut and getting everything right I I don't know if it was four hours but
37:35
you know what I'm saying and then and then I hope six months later you're like what something went wrong oh my God it's
37:42
like look going back and looking at he's like what did I I don't even remember doing this I know I did it but I don't remember how or why or what's this I you
37:49
know it's just I I find it kind of crazy you know I I wish there was an easier way to use
37:55
them that would be great if you could just like you know just use your voice to do things a lot of things like that
38:01
and honestly if they could do like an effective like tell me which five emails
38:07
I need to read right now that wouldn't be bad yeah that would be useful I mean
38:14
anything that it can do to save you busy work and I I think one of the coolest features is its ability to summarize
38:21
things I know meeting summarizations is definitely a big AI use case right now
38:27
like especially if you're in a lot of meetings and you gotta like take notes during the meetings but like the AI can
38:33
just give you a summary of like what was discussed and like what the action items are I think there's probably some space
38:39
for improvement in there because I'm not sure that those results are necessarily uh super accurate but I mean chat GPT
38:47
just keeps getting better exponentially better and better and better and cheaper and cheaper and cheaper and I don't know
38:53
if any of y'all saw the newest version 1.4.0 not zero
38:59
o and it's able to do things that are truly well the steal a term astonishing
39:05
it's able to according to the demos according to the demos that's true so some of it may not end up in our hands
39:11
but it will eventually I think Siri looks great in the demos that's also
39:16
true that's also oh I said it out loud sorry yeah all right let's keep going here because we got like 18 stories left
39:22
and we're only on story two we've been live for 40 minutes where we going I don't even know
39:27
yeah about Siri specific I think it's I gave you that I gave you that segue right there man and you just like well I
39:33
didn't know if you were done are you all done yeah okay well I'm making the executive decision you're done talking
39:41
about Siri oh man let me talk to you let me talk to you more about Siri Siri could get a more conversational voice in
39:47
iOS 18 you know what I would find to be conversational if it actually understood me Lis that would be far more
39:54
conversational than it is now I just got just real quick this isn't even really a
39:59
tangent but this is happening now to me all the time where I'm I'm going I'm dictating into it doing a text message
40:05
or whatever and now it is putting in it's doubling the words oh like it it it
40:10
puts in like if I say uh no big deal I'm ready to come over it'll say no big deal
40:16
deal I'm ready to come over oh not doing that to me have you seen this that would truly drive me berserk it is it is
40:22
bizarre I mean I can understand if it like you know here's the word has and
40:29
thinks that it's I'm talking about an avocado as you've mentioned in the past but for no reason at all just putting in
40:36
random words doubling them up it's it's insane so anyway I think that's one of the things that chat gbt does so well is
40:43
is context which Siri does not do well at all I I I seriously think they are going to completely replace their
40:49
technology with chat GPT I mean it seems like that's what they're going to do and just license it I could be wrong but GPT
40:56
does everything they want wanted Siri to do so why would they spend their time
41:02
developing their own system when they're already so far behind as opposed to just licensing it which seems like that is
41:07
what they're going to do so anyway back to the story Apple reportedly will make series voice more conversational on iOS
41:13
18 plus The Voice Assistant will gain several proactive intelligence features that will help in daily life Apple might
41:20
collaborate with open AI yeah we already talked about that integrate chatbot and
41:25
AI technology and iOS 18 uh this is according to multiple rumors over the last several months uh more
41:33
importantly seral will become smart enough to Auto sumarize your iPhone notifications I don't really know why I would need that and transcribe voice
41:39
memos now that could be useful it will purportedly provide an AI summary of news articles we just literally talked
41:46
about all this stuff um yeah where was this there was a part where German was saying oh there it
41:52
is while AI chap Bots are all the rage apple is reportedly not developing one of its own apparently some of its top
41:58
executives are allergic to the idea of Apple going in that direction says German especially since incorrect
42:04
information has caused has from them let me read that again since says Gman especially since incorrect information
42:11
from them has caused controversies I think we need some chat GPT going on on this website or maybe in my brain
42:18
actually yeah I think it's really interesting that Apple may not be developing their own GPT but I mean
42:24
they're so far behind I don't know if they could catch up to this point because AI is moving so exponentially
42:29
fast but I think one of the challenges for apple is going to be these GPT
42:36
services are not free there is a cost to every interaction you have with GPT
42:42
because you're paying for the compute which is how they make their money I think and everyone is licensing chat
42:47
GPT and Apple has to pay for those transactions so I think they are going
42:53
to try to integrate these intera action into the neural uh engine as much as
42:59
they can but I don't know man I mean every interaction that I seem to have
43:05
has to go out to some GPU farm and all of a sudden we're going to replace that and do it on your iPad or something I
43:11
don't I don't know if I buy it I just don't know how many of those interactions are going to be um something that you could actually do on
43:17
your iPhone but I'm sure Apple who's much smarter than me especially in the aggregate is uh probably going to be
43:23
able to figure out something super useful I mean look they're not hiring me to lead their yeah I te there's probably a reason to do that what if they do
43:30
charge though man Siri plus $3 a month now it works sort of you know what you
43:35
may have just spoken into existence something that that that we hadn't considered but actually might happen
43:42
like maybe maybe they will give you like a certain amount for free and then if you
43:48
want to have unlimited AI you you have to pay for you know iCloud Plus or
43:55
whatever Siri Plus is included dude if you accidentally stumbled into that I'm
44:01
going to laugh heartily and you will also get a exuberant EXA or congratulations Siri plus it'll come
44:09
with the Apple One subscription from Adam brousard dude you might have just stumbled into Tim Cook's Master strategy
44:15
there of course they'll have to raise the price of the apple one of course includes extra features I mean that goes
44:21
pring goes new pricing just announced all right uh let's move on
44:26
from that didn't no I can't my phone speaking of
44:32
series never activates when I wanted to but then activates on accident all the time awesome yeah all right actually
44:39
before we move on who's next you're next again lucky
44:45
you oh you want to talk about iPhone 16 and the new color coming our way I
44:52
do but before we do that I do want to give a quick plug for Co cloth. you have
44:59
all these expensive top tier Apple devices and top tier Tech you got
45:04
smudges all over them your Apple watch is constantly getting smudged I don't know about yours mine's constantly
45:09
getting dirty I don't know if like the oop phobic coating is worn off or
45:14
something is that what you call it but every time I look at my watch it just has like this Haze across the top but of
45:21
course a few swipes with the coat cloth it looks sparkling like the day I pulled
45:27
it out of its packaging see my reflection in it again that's what coat cloth does best it just leaves nothing
45:34
behind but sparkling glass metal uh lenses on your glasses on your
45:40
sunglasses on your iPhone on your iPad on your TV on your lenses on your camera
45:46
especially with the the new cat cloth Duo it has a dual fiber design and the long fibers on one side are meant to
45:52
reach down and clean out your cracks clean out life's cracks you know what's the truth Louis you scoff all my CL all
46:00
my cracks are sparkling clean yeah I'm sure the crack between my camera and the knobs where you can never reach the coat
46:07
cloth reaches down sparkling clean crack the the crack between my iPhone case and
46:15
the actual iPhone itself that that that deep crass where all the the tritis goes
46:21
sparkling clean crack we are all about sparkling clean cracks here at the cloth
46:26
doco company all my gadgets are sparkling clean thanks to co cloth and I'm continually surprised how well they
46:33
work if you want to experience your own sparkling clean crack head on over to C
46:38
cloth. c.co and use code cultcast to score a free carry cloth uh extra carry cloth
46:45
with orders $20 plus and I think you'll be surprised and delighted and dazzled
46:51
and maybe bedazzled and how well they work I think we need to sell a bedazzled model
46:58
that's something that I do think you should brand those things I think I think you should put the logo on there yeah you know uh on the co cloth yeah
47:06
well the reason I don't is because it messes with the surface area
47:11
like the cleanable surface area because you have like some logo in printed although I guess we could sew one on could be really small yeah or maybe just
47:18
sew like a tag on blazing it maybe we should do that I do like we can make a special cult cast
47:24
Edition like little little you know PL and artwork on it with our or a picture of Lewis on there yeah just Lewis just
47:33
Lewis on there we can make one with each of our faces and then see which one sells the most special edition yeah and
47:39
every time you clean your iPhone and you look down at the tag and Louis is just sitting there beaming with pride at how
47:45
well you cleaned your iPhone today wow that's actually not a bad idea all right
47:51
man all of our best ideas happen on the fly on this program you could tint them sort of like the the out of
47:59
tourin no one knows how that technology Works leis it's
48:04
undiscoverable although think of how creative we could be if we could just laser and Blaze our pictures on there or
48:10
something all right well look let's move on let's talk about speaking of things to keep clean right we got to talk about
48:17
the iPhone slim and then we have all these other stories we're going to be here for the next 15 hours we got to get
48:22
moving let's do a quick fly over on the iPhone Slim So that l can go old man mode on this apple best album of all
48:30
time story wow you just skipped right over the did I skip something you skipped over your own story shees the
48:35
colors oh shoot I forgot all right I'll do this real quick Ming quo one of the only Apple analyst alive
48:43
that ever gets anything right besides German I mean maybe there's a couple more these days but mingi quo he's he's
48:50
OG and he thinks that he's figured out he's broken the encryption code on TC's
48:56
communic Pathways with the other Executives he thinks he knows what's coming next for iPhone 16 and 16 Pro for the new color
49:05
you guys ready for this how does no because I wrote the show notes but I literally cannot wait
49:10
to hear it again yep so we already have iPhone 15 Pro in blue titanium natural
49:16
titanium black titanium white titanium but close your eyes if you
49:22
would and envision this okay a new shade Rose
49:27
titanium not rose gold rose titanium what will the Geniuses at Apple think of
49:34
next I've never seen a titanium Rose well you're about to for only additional
49:41
$100 charge you can have your own that is the new color that he thinks is coming which was a massive whoopy
49:48
cushion deflation for me personally since you all know that I have been waiting for beautiful Buster heiney bronze the color that was rumored many
49:55
moons ago that we never got unfortunately and I think we just sell add INF
50:02
tium does that even make sense within that context Lewis you're you're grimacing like I've just injured you it
50:07
sounded like you mispronounced the word in intio that's that's typ that's
50:15
the brand of jeans you've got in infa titis yeah it's close but I
50:23
digress so there you go rose rose gold no rose titanium which like rose gold
50:31
you're you're once again missing another part um for the regular iPhone 16 and 16 plus which currently uh comes in black
50:40
green pink blue and yellow they're going to swap out yellow for white wow what
50:47
yellow is just too bold is almost identifiable as a color
50:53
Apple can't have that what what will the geniuses and the industrial design team think of next they have all these color
51:00
palets I wonder if they've realized that out of all the colors on those palettes they only use seven they could just get
51:07
rid of all the rest maybe just recycle them and they have all these like special customized lighting viewing
51:12
rooms where they can see the the colors in their in their true Hues and they and they only ever use seven of them and
51:19
they they they just crank the saturation back from 100 to like 20% yeah that's
51:24
all they do is they just change the SAT all that that is that's all they do let's make this more subtle they change
51:29
the saturation 5% year to year from a distance in the bright sunlight I can
51:35
tell that this is slightly bluish my favorite part is imagining them like they probably have countless
51:41
meetings about this where they all sit around like nodding and thinking about
51:47
which colors and and it will probably take them like two weeks to make the decision and they're like should we make
51:53
it 1% more desaturated or should we leave it as it is and this is actually fascinating I wonder how they do it I
52:00
mean what if they just look at they send around pictures like they like they post the pictures which look like you know 10
52:06
times as vibrant as the actual device does when you get it in your hand or or is it like like you're saying like like
52:13
you know how you know the famous thing is all the the movie people you know they're they're looking at the edits of
52:19
the movie and they're watching it you know in a pitch black studio room with a perfect screen right and you get you you
52:26
turn on the TV in your living room and you know and it's not night time outside and like you can't see anything cuz it's
52:32
all so so perfectly tempered down so that you you know maybe that's what
52:38
maybe that's the problem maybe Apple when they look at these things maybe they're standing in a place where the lighting is you know just so and they
52:46
never bother to like take it to some to the real world D office has fluorescent
52:51
lighting you know I wonder how many things that Apple creates are due to
52:56
that bubble effect that you just described it's like they live a lifestyle that most people don't live
53:02
they don't have access to these buildings that are designed by Johnny IV you know with every
53:08
detail just just just perfect you know and they need an AI to summarize their
53:13
text messages for them into one single solitary sentence uh before we move on I
53:19
just want to say we got a big one here from Hugo last and I forgot about with the $25 drop I call this the last effect
53:26
because once he starts donating everyone starts donating so just prepare yourselves for the donations to roll in and he has a comment this time he says
53:33
so I can't stay and watch it live but I still want to watch the replay small request anyway you can put the link for
53:39
your cultcast Discord uh in the YouTube oh dude I totally got that
53:45
backwards yeah I need to do I need to hook you up with that I can't put the link in the YouTube vid because then
53:52
people will flood in who aren't members hug go that's not going to work we can't have scores hundreds of
53:58
thousands of people pouring into the cult C it's exclusive Club it's an exclusive club that you only get access to if you Fork it over man you know you
54:05
forked many times so you get access exclusive access but I'll reach out to
54:11
you I'll get you that link all right let's continue what did I skip where should we go should we talk about this
54:18
looks like a few more details on the iPhone Slim So we talked about this uh last week Apple reportedly found ways to
54:25
significantly slim down the iPhone the result will reportedly be part of the iPhone 17 series when it reaches
54:31
customers next year according to the information other design changes could be on the docket as well quote the rear
54:38
cameras could be relocated from the upper left corner of the iPhone's back to the top Center as part of the
54:44
redesign which is interesting they've never done that the camera's always been on that same side I like a lot of Android phones have the cameras in the
54:50
center I think that'll be that's kind of interesting it makes you wonder if they're going to be switching up like
54:56
the like you know the camera Hardware as well research analyst Jeff Pew recently
55:01
predicted that Apple will replace the iPhone 17 plus with this uh new model in
55:06
2025 this will supposedly have a 6.6 inch screen um which is interesting because
55:13
it's it's uh you know slightly smaller than the iPhone Pro Max rather than sit between the regular
55:21
and pro iPhone price wise this new model would have a higher price than the pro Max model making it the most expensive
55:28
in the lineup the mini iPhone and plus iPhone both fail to catch on with consumers the iPhone slim is apparently
55:35
a change in strategy you know I I see a lot of uh Pro max phones out in the wild and you
55:42
would think that like with how like with how big of a seller it is I think it's natural for Apple to think you know what
55:48
would it be like if we made one that's even more expensive well people keep buying it they keep making phones more expensive and people keep buying the
55:54
higher more expensive phones so I think the iPhone slim is kind of like a you know rethinking strategy of like well
56:01
what if we make one that's like even more expensive well people you know well people still care there's a lot of that going on all
56:08
across for interesting designs sorry I was just uh talking over you there my apologies I was just saying that there's
56:14
a I feel like that philosophy of let's just make things higher price is is happening all over the place I mean it's
56:20
not just with phones and and we talked about this before the grocery store cars
56:26
land trips I mean just everywhere you go people are just raising prices I think the car market is is is is
56:34
definitely um an Exemplar of that anomaly it's like there's so many cars
56:39
that are just insane prices now and I'm like who's spending $115,000 for an electric truck you know
56:46
what I mean I mean are they actually selling that many of those I don't know it seems like a toy for rich people I
56:54
mean they're cool I'm not even talking about the Cyber truck I was I was talking about the Ford Lightning but the Cyber truck is is obviously another one
57:01
which the Ford light or or the Cyber truck is really interesting I see those around now because as soon as a really
57:07
expensive you know tech toy like that comes out it starts to show up in tech places like San Francisco I'm sure L
57:13
you've seen them and it's like wife was like what is that scams she's like what in
57:22
the yeah I just parked on the street I'm like yeah that's a cyberu on the road it's like you're being chased by like uh
57:29
a gang from Mad Max it's very disconcerting but like the thing about that truck which I find to be so funny
57:35
is like it looks so aggressive and tough until you pan down and it's like got
57:41
like Prius tires on it have you noticed that like the tires that they put on
57:46
that truck they look like hybrid car tires and I think the Cyber Tru on the
57:51
Cyber truck they're like the least Burly tires I've ever seen that whole thing just looks like a monster and so
57:57
aggressive and then you get down there and oh it's like Toyota Prius tires on
58:02
there because they have to make the thing efficient and you lose a lot of efficiency when you have big tires and so it looks like it should have like
58:09
these big Burly aggressive tires like a Ford Bronco like that's the tires it should have but no those aren't the
58:15
original tires the the original design they had to scrap last minute because as it turns out like the the original Tire
58:21
design like the uh the the plastic covers overlapped on top of the rubber a little bit
58:26
and so they started eating away at the tires like they came up with a design of of tire cover that cut that like
58:32
literally destroyed the tires the more you drove it so they had to replace it last minute is that what happened yeah
58:38
because the tires that are on the Cyber truck look so out of place and I'm going to guess that they'll fix that at some
58:43
point but they do not match the exterior of the body yeah it's like you know what you know what it looks like this might
58:50
be the best analogy I've ever used on this show it's like the guy who works out
58:56
incessantly but never does leg day and you look the guy he's like totally buffed and then you look down he's got
59:01
like these skinny little chicken legs cuz he never does leg day that's why you don't skip leg day dude don't ever Skip
59:06
Leg Day if there's one takeaway you have from this show okay let's continue where are we is that it future
59:13
iPhone MOS slim yeah allegedly that was what we were talking about yeah all right let's
59:19
move on leis let's talk about albums yeah let's talk about albums leou
59:26
this is this headline was handcrafted by you won't never guess who chat gbt
59:32
Leander kany oh uh WCF Apple chose this is the best album of all time yeah all
59:40
right Lander ky's a still alive that's good to know and he's still writing good for him still kicking it he's still
59:46
kicking that's good to know yeah so if you didn't see uh this this was like kind of a slow motion I don't I guess
59:52
not a train wreck really but uh Apple released like 10 songs a day building up this big uh big reveal yesterday it it's
1:00:02
the the entire list they call the 100 best albums of all time
1:00:08
so yeah I don't know if you happen to see it but we we were watching every day and we're chatting about it in slack and
1:00:14
you know like oh what do they add today oh geez you know 10 more albums that maybe don't seem like the best albums of
1:00:20
all time anyway the final 10 came out and and the the number one album of all
1:00:26
time we just found it really like an odd Choice their pick and this is you know a
1:00:32
whole bunch of Apple like DJs DJ uh what's his name Zan low and other guys
1:00:38
uh their top album they call uh they they made the call of the top album The
1:00:46
miseducation of Lauren Hill 1998 record by Lauren Hill and uh you said I think
1:00:53
in the pre-show chat you were saying you you listen to this and you loved it at the time oh dude it was a great album I
1:00:59
I listened to this album over and over and over and over and over again when I was younger when it came out I mean it's a terrific album is it the greatest
1:01:06
album of all time but number one I mean especially above number two is Michael Jackson's Thriller this is why we need
1:01:12
to get back to um we need to get back to versus on C cast off topic see we're
1:01:18
we're we're doing like a music house for records uh I don't know but we should check that out because that would actually be really entertaining should
1:01:24
we just enumerate the list here real fast uh Lewis they they can hear the whole thing uh the top 10 the top 10
1:01:31
yeah yeah okay Miss education Lauren Hill number one Thriller by Michael Jackson number two Abby rad by a little
1:01:37
band called The Beatles number three not be album I would pick but you know whatever yeah there's a lot of real
1:01:43
questionable stuff on here Purple Rain by Prince in the revolution number four Blonde by Frank Ocean number five I got
1:01:51
to say yeah Griffin was afraid this was going to turn into like old man yells at the sky it's true I I haven't heard of
1:01:57
ons I've heard of them I've never I've never heard that record as far as I know uh songs in the key of Life by Stevie
1:02:04
Wonder which does have some fantastic tracks on it I I guess this how you pronounce this good kid Mad City deluxe
1:02:10
version by Kendrick Lamar Back to Black by Amy win housee
1:02:17
never mind by Nirvana and Lemonade by Beyonce I don't know I just feel like a lot of these albums are picked by people
1:02:26
who don't really love music these are obvious like Pi by professional DJs
1:02:32
their job is to love music I think they're picked by pe I think they're picked by songs who love a certain genre
1:02:39
of music yeah a couple a couple genres of music and you know they tip their hat to certain things throughout throughout
1:02:45
this long 100 thing list and it's not like it's all bad but it I mean as as
1:02:50
our post about this mentions there's a whole bunch of bands that don't even show up at all at all
1:02:56
like the who maybe you've heard of them the band R Queen dude Tom Aeros
1:03:05
Smith Van Halen Van Halen perhaps the greatest and I mean not only just a band
1:03:12
that put out records that were good top to bottom but also I mean how do you
1:03:17
leave out the best you know probably the best guitar player that has ever ever
1:03:23
been I mean I don't know I I it's one of my favorite bands of course so of course I feel that way but and some of these
1:03:30
some some bands on there got two like two records on there right and you're like how could you not find room for one
1:03:36
of these other groups uh Steely Dan had one record on there I I would say if
1:03:43
there's any band that ought to have two it's Steely Dan because their records are consistently great top to bottom
1:03:50
every single song fantastic there's a couple of Public Enemy records on there
1:03:55
I like those all right chat what what albums we missing from this PE people are agreeing and people are are roasting
1:04:01
us for our our taste and music here being old men let's let's hear what what albums are missing I I I do like that
1:04:08
they put purple rain on here I I think that might be in my top 10
1:04:14
but yeah uh I would probably put at least one of the YouTube albums
1:04:20
on here I'm not sure which meatloaf bad out of hell
1:04:25
uh Josh Tree by you was lower on the list but it was still in the top 100 okay I would definitely put Josh a tree
1:04:33
or perhaps Rattle and hum on this top 10 list I would look to see I I think there
1:04:39
there's probably an Aerosmith album that deserves to be on this list uh I don't I forget the album where they released
1:04:45
crying but dude that that album was really good although it's been a while since I listened to it and I don't know
1:04:50
if all the songs were good there's one album that they would probably never put on this list because it's not one that's
1:04:56
popular but uh uh Dave Matthews live at Luther College it was an acoustic show
1:05:03
um with him and Tim Reynolds which I think is one of the greatest performances of all time and one of my favorite albums of all time and the
1:05:10
whole thing was live I mean they just recorded it live Pearl Jam 10 should probably be on
1:05:16
here I I would pick Pearl Jam 10 over never mind I think I don't you can rest assure
1:05:23
that fish is not on the list so one of the things that we were
1:05:28
talking about in slack when we were you know discussing this post um you know
1:05:34
like there's there's almost no there's no country music there's there's not anything well I mean these
1:05:40
are professional DJs there you go well and and one of the things that I point out is like even like the greatest
1:05:46
country uh you know songwriters and and recording artists of all time you know
1:05:52
their records are not great like top to bottom great right like they they
1:05:59
there's a lot of filler on a lot of those records because those some of those guys like back in the 60s or whatever they might put out you know
1:06:05
record after record after record after record they write they write maybe one song or maybe they're all written by somebody else they go in and bang them
1:06:11
out in the studio and and it's so it's I I I think what they were trying to do with this list is is albums as a whole
1:06:19
that are fantastic top to bottom and that have cultural impact lasting cultural impact
1:06:26
yeah all right you know there there's a lot of stuff in there that I I feel like you know you granted I'm not the target
1:06:33
audience for this obviously I'm too old but there's a lot of stuff on there that doesn't seem to me to have the heft of
1:06:39
certain other things that uh are on the list but yeah you know whatever teach their own I I'll just say uh you know
1:06:47
mentioning Leander KY I mean he he he kind of got into this uh conversation with us as well right and we're talking
1:06:52
about and in the uh cult to D newsletter which he writes every day he he wrote
1:06:58
that uh his list would include radio head The Clash Talking Heads which actually one of their records is on
1:07:04
there talk talk or maybe David Bowie Burning Spear Pink Floyd I think there was a there's a Pink Floyd record on
1:07:11
there too uh spiritualize or echo in the bunnyman uh but I I thought this was a a
1:07:17
very important point he makes my choice would likely change dayto day like most people's and and I like that's
1:07:23
absolutely true like I'm with you there you know middle of the the winter cold rainy day
1:07:29
you're not going to be listening to you know Jimmy Buffett record right or maybe you are because the only way out of here miserable Ohio oh my God when's it going
1:07:37
to stop kind of a situation but uh anyway I I if nothing else I think they
1:07:43
did a an interesting job of like irritating people right I mean it's kind of it's a it's basically an impossible
1:07:49
job how how in the world do you come up with a list of the top 100 records of all time that suits it everyone it's
1:07:57
impossible I would definitely put the Jos tree album by YouTube in in
1:08:03
the top in the probably in the top five did you look at the you probably didn't look at the entire list right no I I
1:08:10
didn't I should go back and take a look but they do have you know London Calling by The Clash h a by radio
1:08:16
head I don't think at the entire list he just looked at the top you mean kid a is that you said kid a what did I say I
1:08:23
thought you said in but yeah I didn't even think about radio head that that's definitely another fan to consider Dave
1:08:30
Dave snow the guy who wrote this post you know kind of I don't know taking a little bit of issue with this he was he
1:08:36
was bummed out about the the lack of jazz you know he's going on about how you know Jazz fairly important art art
1:08:42
form right and there's like you know I I think uh what was the first Jazz album
1:08:48
they put on there it might have been um oh what's uh the problem with jazz as
1:08:55
jazz is like caviar you know it's just there are certain kinds of people that like caviar Kind of Blue by Miles Davis
1:09:03
you know it's like most people don't want to listen to uh uh experimental
1:09:10
noise projects for an hour and 20 minutes you know what is one of my
1:09:15
favorite albums and which is definitely one of probably the top reason why I did not contribute to this list in any way
1:09:21
whatsoever is an album by The Weather Channel called best of smooth is
1:09:26
jazz best of thunderstorms part four God that didn't make it on there all right
1:09:31
look we got to move on man we we've been live for 16 hours we got to wrap this show up hey I
1:09:37
wanted to tell people that if they want those kinds of amazing insights all you got to do is go to our homepage click on
1:09:44
the link at the top it says newsletters they can sign up for C and Ma today it's free newsletter Leander puts it together
1:09:49
almost every day if if he's unavailable I do it uh but we sent out basically all
1:09:55
the day's top stories all you know best news and reviews and how-tos that we have uh daily if you want a daily uh
1:10:03
blast in your inbox so it's free sign up there you go okay let's wrap up with an
1:10:08
all new Under review I know you got something Griffin I got something I
1:10:14
wanted to plug I'll let you go first because mine's kind of small and we probably not be as good as yours we need
1:10:20
to get our hands on some more Hardware we got I have my hands on arguably way too much Hardware I but I I I don't
1:10:26
spend a lot of time writing reviews because I I don't spend a lot of time writing honestly for being a writer uh
1:10:32
which is uh why I'm going to try and do this topic more more regularly on this show this here internet programs that I
1:10:38
can technically say that I have reviewed something so today this week I have a
1:10:44
product that I've had in my car for a long time now uh this is the mag easy
1:10:49
what let me get the exact name here the mag easy mag Mount magnetic wireless
1:10:54
card charger so there's a this is I think one of the the the top places
1:11:00
where mag safe can improve your life a car charger this is a this is a round sort of Puck it uh has a clip on the
1:11:08
back so you can clip it like right onto your air vent if you want and I think this is like a pretty standard part
1:11:13
because like the uh you know diameter of the the attachment thing you can also get like different clips if you want
1:11:19
like it comes with this you know sort of stretchy you know almost like chip clip
1:11:24
style deal where you can clip on your air vent but if you if you have a car with an exposed like CD player or
1:11:29
something like that you can get a a different attachment that'll be a little more secure but anyways this is a MAG
1:11:35
safe uh car mount for your phone in your car it's so it provides charging as well
1:11:41
when you when you just pick it on and what sets it apart from other ones is that it's it's completely circular you
1:11:47
know mag safe is made up of two parts there's like the little dut ring and there's a little little line beneath
1:11:53
that that keeps it oriented straight up and down but this one is just the circle so it's comp and and it means that you can
1:11:59
freely rotate your phone vertical to landscape if you want you know in in my
1:12:05
car my my Prius the air vent is directly above the uh the car's like built-in display so if I have you know Maps going
1:12:11
on on my phone I usually want my phone in landscape orientation instead of portrait so it's out of the way and they you know they don't cover each other up
1:12:18
so this is really good for that it offers like I think 15 watt charging which is like the full mag safe power of
1:12:25
course means that you know you need to have it plugged into a a 15 watt you know USB what do you call it cigarette
1:12:31
lighter adapter and that's usually the part that a lot of people Overlook in their in their car charging setup you
1:12:37
know you just get like a gas station cigarette lighter with a USB port on it that's probably not going to Output the
1:12:43
maximum power available to you so um this one outputs 15 watts it's it's
1:12:48
really easy and it has a secret trick up its sleeve and see if I can show you this with this USBC cable on my d
1:12:56
it has oh it's it's not showing up because my my office is really brightly lit but
1:13:02
it glows it has right on the outside it has like a little LED light so if you get in your car when it's pitch black at
1:13:09
night you know where to put your phone no Mis M on there yeah yeah you know have to like wiggle it around and try
1:13:16
and hope you get it you know exactly where it is and it doesn't drain your Prius battery right yeah yeah that's
1:13:22
awesome and the nice thing is that um oh what was I going to say I forgot
1:13:28
maybe it'll come back to me all right it's a good product and I think it's only like $35 and you can find it on
1:13:33
Amazon there will be a link in the in the show notes who makes it it's by mag easy the the build quality is pretty
1:13:38
nice like I don't really take a close look at it very often but it does it does look very nice it almost reminds me
1:13:43
of like the uh the iPhone 5 and 5s because you have like this you know sort
1:13:49
of matte design on the center but then like it it has like these you know chamford edges that are shiny all around
1:13:54
the outside it's a pretty nice product he said chamford it's a word we don't use often
1:14:00
enough leis you know it's hilarious I I just bought a uh a car out like that too and
1:14:07
and and the the weirdest thing like the thing I find interesting about the when you're talking about there is that that clip because the the problem I've had
1:14:13
with previous ones I can't get them to attach to my you know really old truck thing they like just I don't know I
1:14:20
don't know if they' if cars have changed I I haven't investigated cars uh you know air vent technology lately but uh
1:14:28
air vents are very different and I was worried that it wouldn't fit in my Prius because the the Prius like the the most prominent you know piece of plastic part
1:14:35
of the air vent is thicker than like a standard air vent but no it Clips on really well I remember what I was going to say earlier um even if you have a car
1:14:43
with kind of poor suspension that bounces around a lot I have not had my phone fall off of this once now a
1:14:49
qualifier for that is that I don't have the pro Max phone but I think like you know friends have put their phones on it and it hasn't fallen off either you you
1:14:55
know you you misjudge the speed that you need to go over a what do you call it like like train track speed hump yeah or
1:15:02
speed hump you you know jump up a little bit I'm really bad at that that's like my super weakness when it comes to
1:15:08
driving a car I always go way too fast over train tracks but my phone doesn't fall off train tracks not something you
1:15:15
go over very often when you're in Seattle or in San Francisco but you got plenty of potholes to drive over that
1:15:20
might be certain you know it's like lots of those everywhere okay cool well keep mine quick so I had a unique problem or
1:15:27
maybe not unique I'm I'm broadcasting to you live from the very powerful cult
1:15:32
Commander yes it's a PC but you know when you're doing a live production I feel like having a PC is
1:15:40
the best way to go because a lot of the apps that you use are are native to PC and so I really wanted to have some PC
1:15:50
speakers but I didn't want to go out and buy PC speakers like PC speakers are expensive they're like between you could
1:15:56
spend $50 well you could buy $10 speakers and just have them be complete garbage but you could also spend 50 or
1:16:03
$100 or more on PC speakers but I don't want to have another set of speakers on my desk I already have my uh homepod
1:16:09
Minis and I'm like why can I not just use my homepod minis with my uh
1:16:14
PC and have the audio go to my homepods like there's really no good way that I
1:16:20
found to to make that work but there are apps that you can use use and so I tried a whole bunch of stuff and I landed on
1:16:28
this app called tun blade tune blade which is kind of old I mean it's been
1:16:33
around forever and it is by far probably the best $10 that I've spent it allows
1:16:40
me to stream Windows audio to any airplane enabled device in my house and
1:16:47
it does it with almost zero lag so like when I'm watching a video the audio that is being played on the speaker matches
1:16:53
what's happening in the video which is important and it's rock solid like the connection never cuts out there's no static which
1:16:59
is a problem that I've had with other solutions that I tried and I can play the same audio to like multiple speakers
1:17:06
throughout my entire network the the the sound quality is uncompressed sounds
1:17:11
really good um there are some works with both homepod minis in the in a stereo pair uh yes and it also work work with a
1:17:19
stereo pair and this is the only app that I have found that will actually do that like some of the other apps that I tried well first of all it wouldn't even
1:17:26
necessarily be reliably able to connect to multiple homepods at the same time or even one homepod sometimes you get like
1:17:32
these weird like like machine noises it sounds like aliens are interfering with your network because they're about to come and
1:17:38
invade or they couldn't take advantage of uh homepods in a stereo pair and this
1:17:44
app can and it's $10 it's $10 which for what it does for me anyway has been Dirt
1:17:50
Cheap so it saved me probably you know 80 90 $100 because I was going to have
1:17:56
to buy speakers and I wanted make nicer speakers I didn't want to have to have
1:18:02
like these tinny crappy sounding speakers and so now I can leverage my homepod minis or my homepod uh for my
1:18:10
computer speakers and it does more that I'm I'm not even talking about but it's like a Swiss army knife for streaming
1:18:17
audio on your on your network from your windows you know PC to your Apple stuff
1:18:23
I know for a lot of you like you don't have any Windows machines but there are a lot of us that have to live in both ecosystems like I have to have a PC and
1:18:29
I have my Mac and I would like these things to play together nicely at least in some way and this has been the best
1:18:35
way that I have found to actually stream audio from uh a Windows setup into you
1:18:41
know Apple products so it's called tomb blade it's tomb blade.com I'll link it
1:18:46
in the show notes and uh like I said it's only $10 which it's totally worth now they do have a free edition that you
1:18:52
can use if you want to just try out you could download it and use it but every 10 minutes it will stop so you have to like reboot it after 10 minutes and it's
1:19:00
it's it's definitely annoying it's nagware but it does work if you just have a limited use case for it like you
1:19:06
just need to work for a short term of time a short period of time then you can use the tune blade out for free but
1:19:12
after 10 minutes you're going to have to restart it if you want the audio to keep going all
1:19:17
right that's it that's all the time that we have and we've been live for 16 hours
1:19:25
