hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:11
how you can make hidden folders on your
0:13
Mac hidden folders is one thing that
0:15
windows kind of leads the mac platform
0:18
in it's very easy to work with hidden
0:20
folders inside of Windows but inside of
0:23
Mac os10 it's not something you can
0:25
really work with by default so in order
0:28
to make a hidden folder we're actually
0:29
going to have to move over to terminal
0:31
and you can access number by opening up
0:34
a new Finder window going into your
0:36
Applications folder and then from there
0:38
utilities folder towards the bottom and
0:41
inside there you'll find terminal you
0:44
can open that up now in terminal we're
0:46
going to make a folder so the way you
0:48
make a folder in terminal is you type in
0:50
mkdir space and then the name of your
0:54
folder and it's going to by default
0:56
create this folder inside of your home
0:57
directory if I just typed mkdir which is
1:01
make directory and then any name it
1:04
would make a folder with that name but
1:06
in order to make a hit in what I have to
1:07
do is I have to put a period in front of
1:09
the word so we're going to call this
1:11
period and then hidden so now if we hit
1:15
enter it has made the folder you don't
1:17
see any type of indication that it's
1:18
done but it is and then you can quit
1:21
terminal now if we want to access this
1:24
polar I can open up my home directory
1:26
here in a new Finder window and you can
1:29
see there is no folder in here called
1:30
hidden because obviously it's hidden so
1:33
what I can do to get to the hidden
1:35
folder is hit command shift G and from
1:39
here it's going to make you type a path
1:42
to the folder so we're going to type in
1:44
/ users and then your username so /
1:48
Mykal stieber in this case and then
1:52
slash dot hidden and now we're in the
1:56
dot hidden folder and nobody can get to
1:59
this folder except us so from here let's
2:01
say I want to put this other folder
2:04
inside the hidden folder it's in there
2:05
now nobody can see it I can close this
2:07
window up and if i go back in here you
2:10
can see there's no hidden folder there's
2:12
no other folder you can't find it
2:13
you can see even if I search for the
2:15
hidden folder I can't find it because it
2:18
is hidden and I also won't be able to
2:20
search for any folders within the hidden
2:22
folder now if I want to get back to this
2:25
quickly if I just hit command shift G
2:27
again it saved the last full of command
2:29
so I can go right to that now I guess
2:31
for added privacy you could probably get
2:32
rid of that every time but this is a
2:34
quick way and not a lot of people use
2:36
that command the go command so you don't
2:38
really have to worry about that and I
2:39
can just go back to this folder so now
2:42
with hidden folders the only way you can
2:44
access them is by going to the go
2:47
command or by using a tool to reveal
2:51
hidden folders and a tool that you can
2:52
use to reveal hidden folders is called
2:55
secrets and it's a system preferences
2:57
pane and you can download this and you
2:59
have a lot of different options and I
3:01
can go under finder and you can see
3:04
hidden folders will be in here if I just
3:06
search for it here hidden so i can show
3:09
hidden files with an application like
3:11
secrets as well but other than that it's
3:14
a very secure way to kind of hide stuff
3:16
it's not secure as in encryption but it
3:20
is a way to keep your private folders
3:22
hidden from others that you know you
3:24
don't want to get it so there you go
3:26
that's how to make hidden folders inside
3:29
Mac os10 as I was if you have anything
3:31
that you'd like to see me do a how-to on
