Apple continues to grow its library of original movies with big stars, with Justin Timberlake joining that roster on Wednesday. He’ll play the lead in Palmer, which will be directed by Fisher Stevens and appear on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Palmer is the story of a former college football phenomenon (played by Timberlake) who, after a stint in prison, returns to his hometown to get his life back on track. Then he finds himself suddenly in charge of a young boy who has been abandoned by his wayward mother.
Along with Timberlake, the movie stars Juno Temple, Academy Award nominee June Squibb, Alisha Wainright and introduces Ryder Allen.
Production has yet to begin, so there’s no word yet on when this film will debut.
Apple TV+ offers many star-studded shows and movies
Apple appears to understand that star power runs Hollywood, and has made deal with many big names to bring movies and shows to its streaming service, not just Justin Timberlake.
Greyhound, a feature film about World War II starring Tom Hanks, recently brought in the largest opening-weekend audience Apple has netted so far. And The Banker, starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson, debuted on Apple TV+ this spring.
Looking ahead, the iPhone maker recently made pacts with other big names in Hollywood like Idris Elba and Jake Gyllenhaal. And there are also signed deals with Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott and Sophia Coppola.
