Like cowboys hoping to brand its herd of cattle before rustlers move in, Apple has registered dozens of domains to protect products unveiled at this week’s WWDC.
Among the at least 50 domains snapped up by the tech giant are .com addresses connected with iCloud, iMessage, Lion, and the much-discussed Post-PC era. A partial list:

Acquiring the domains apparently is part of Apple’s changing tactics toward speculators snapping up Internet addresses linked to well-known brands sold by the Cupertino, Calif. company. Earlier this month, Apple asked ICANN to reward the iPod maker the iPods.com being used by a company hawking MP3s. This also follows Apple’s $4.5 million acquisition of iCloud.com ahead of the service’s unveiling earlier this week.
Ironically, the tablet maker has yet to acquire the ipad.com domain despite the device becoming one of its most-popular products. Perhaps Apple is so tightly-identified with the iPad, owning the domain is not necessary?
