Apple and Facebook may be on a collision course with one another, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says he’s confident the social media giant “will be able to manage through” upcoming privacy changes made by Apple.

According to a CNBC report:

“Facebook has prepared for the looming Apple changes by introducing more commerce products. Most notably, the social media company in 2020 introduced Facebook Shops and Instagram Shops.”

In a Thursday conversation on the Clubhouse app, Zuckerberg noted that, “We’ll be in a good position” to adapt to new Apple privacy measures like its App Tracking Transparency feature set to launch in a forthcoming iOS 14 update.

“It’s possible that we may even be in a stronger position if Apple’s changes encourage more businesses to conduct more commerce on our platforms by making it harder for them to use their data in order to find the customers that would want to use their products outside of our platforms,” Zuckerberg continued.

Apple vs. Facebook

Relations between Facebook and Apple have been steadily trending downwards for some time. In Facebook’s early days, Apple was actually its first big recurring company. Steve Jobs also mentored Zuckerberg. The two went on walks together, and discussed Apple’s foray into social networking, Ping, over dinner.

Tim Cook seemingly takes a dimmer view of Facebook. This has come to a head recently with Apple’s anti-tracking measures introduced in iOS 14. Facebook, which relies on personalized advertising for a large part of its revenue, claims this will harm the businesses which rely on Facebook. (And, by extension, Facebook itself, natch.) Facebook has taken out full-page newspaper ads to protest the changes. It is even reportedly considering launching a lawsuit against Apple.

In the meantime, though, it also needs to continue working with Apple by having its products available to customers. From the sound of things, it feels like it’s in a good position to do so.
