Morning Show producers blame bad reviews on 'Apple haters'
Critics really seemed to have their knives out for The Morning Show.

There’s a big difference in the user and critic reviews of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show — and the show’s producers think Apple haters are to blame.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score currently stands at 95%. The critic score, meanwhile, languishes at 63%. Early reviews were particularly harsh, labelling the show as a “painful bellyflop.”

The Morning Show reviews

At the Recode Code Media in Los Angeles event, producers Mimi Leder and Kerry Ehrin said they were surprised by some of these reviews.

“When those reviews came in, I didn’t know what show they were watching,” Leder said. “And I just kind of thought they were nuts. I just felt there were a lot of Apple haters and wanting Apple to fail.”

“The good news is that people love the show, and we love the show, and that’s what matters,” Leder said during the event. (Personally I’d count myself among those who liked the show, and was surprised by the vitriol.)

Kerry Ehrin also talked about the daunting challenge of being one of Apple TV+’s first shows.

“There are certain weak moments where I’m like, ‘How did I get responsible for this?’” said Ehren. “It’s slightly intimidating. I try not to think about it too much.”

The Morning Show and beyond: Is there bias against Apple?

The question of whether Apple gets unfair treatment because it’s, well, Apple is an interesting one. There has always been a vocal minority of people who don’t like Apple for whatever reason. But in an age of Netflix, Amazon TV shows and more, I’m surprised critics would slam Apple for also launching their own shows.

The evidence certainly seems to point that way, though.
