Anyone ready to have 5G now can get Verizon’s latest mobile hotspot and connect their Mac or iPad to it. The Inseego MiFi allows up to 15 devices to simultaneously take advantage of these ultrafast networks.

A 5G iPhone isn’t expected until next year, but Apple fans don’t have to wait.

“The Inseego MiFi is our first business-ready 5G device, combining bandwidth and speed customers expect from 5G, with enterprise-grade security businesses require,” said Tami Erwin, executive vice president and group CEO for Verizon Business.

The carrier points out that users can stream high-resolution (4K/8K) video with near real-time downloads and virtually no buffering delays.

This mobile hotspot offers more than just dual-band Wi-Fi. Users can also connect via the built-in USB-C or Ethernet ports. A 4400 mAh li-ion battery keeps the accessory going.

The price isn’t outrageous for a cutting-edge device and service. The Inseego MiFi itself is $649.99. Verizon consumer customers with an Unlimited smartphone plan can get 50GB of 5G Ultra Wideband data and 15GB of 4G LTE data for an additional $30 a month.

Verizon 5G networks still building

A recent study found that 5G users can expect the new technology to bring download speeds that are 2.7 times faster than 4G. That’s real-world use, not in a lab.

But there are still only a handful of places the Inseego MiFi offers 5G. Verizon currently has service going in parts of Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Providence. Still, the carrier promises to have 5G in 30 cities by the end of 2019.
