Apple’s AirPower charging pad is still M.I.A., but if you’re looking for an innovative and awe-inspiring wireless charging option, look no further than a new Kickstarter campaign.

Called Gloo, it’s a sleek bottle-shaped wireless charging station that doubles up as a multicolored ambient light source you control with your iPhone.

In terms of its charging capabilities, the wire-free device offers both wireless charging via the Qi standard and plug-in USB charging. Gloo isn’t plugged into the mains, but rather acts as a giant battery in its own right, making it a great portable mobile charging solution. It contains a 20,000 mAh battery, which allows it to deliver eight full smartphone charges. You can either charge one smartphone at a time or multiple.

As a light source, the attractive bottle-like design lets you choose from a range of colors via an accompanying mobile app or by tapping on it. It will then glow with this color, making this a pleasingly quirky device to have about your home.

“The Gloo ecosystem aims to redefine the image of mobile charging – from purely functional, and often unsightly – to something that complements today’s contemporary interiors and connected lifestyles equally,” said Boris Brault, CEO of manufacturer Deconnect.

If you’ve never pledged a crowdfunding campaign before, we’d advise that you’re aware of the potential risks inherent in the concept. While plenty of Kickstarter campaigns deliver on time, there’s also the possibility that the project may run late, or not deliver exactly as promised. Nonetheless, if you think this is a cool project and want to get involved, head over to the project page to pledge your support — and cold, hard cash.

Gloo is available in two sizes, with the smaller size starting at $59 on Kickstarter and the larger size beginning at $119. Shipping is set to take place in October.
