If you want to be seen and safe on the road when you’re cycling, you need a Lumos Helmet. The world’s first smart bike helmet offers more than just protection, with built-in lights, brake and turn signals. And now it’s even better, thanks to Apple Watch.

Lumos today launched its new watchOS app, which lets you control your helmet’s lighting using simple gestures. The company also confirmed that the Lumos Helmet will soon become the first bike helmet to be sold in Apple stores throughout the United States and Europe.

We’ve been so impressed with the Lumos Helmet that we featured it in our iPhone gift guide late last year (full review coming soon). That’s because it doesn’t just offer protection like every other helmet, but also smart features that help you stay safe on the roads.

Lumos Helmet’s built-in lights let other road users know when you’re braking, turning and more. They also ensure that you don’t go unnoticed, even on the darkest nights. Now the Lumos Helmet is easier to control, thanks to its watchOS companion app.

Lumos app for Apple Watch

With the Lumos app for Apple Watch, you can use hand gestures to activate turn signals on the Lumos Helmet. You can also download the updated iPhone app with enhanced Bluetooth connectivity to sync your cycling data to Strava and Apple Health.

“I am tremendously excited about this new feature and how it will further enhance cycling safety,” said Eu-wen Ding, Lumos Helmet CEO. “As a design-centered company, we’re thrilled to be able to launch this with Apple.”

Lumos Helmet was made possible through a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign. You can currently buy yours through the Lumos website. Starting this spring, you’ll also find Lumos Helmets in 300 Apple stores throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The Lumos Helmet is currently priced at $179.99 and is available in pearl white, cobalt blue and charcoal black.
