Further information surrounding that rumored ‘budget iPhone’ continues to surface as we approach the launch of the fifth-generation device, and according to two sources for Reuters, it could be in the form of a cheaper 8GB iPhone 4. Surely that gets your mouth watering?

Despite being over 12 months old now, Apple’s iPhone 4 is by no means an underachiever. It packs the impressive A4 processor, a decent 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting video at 720p, and Apple’s awesome Retina display. The opportunity to grab one at a reduced rate would surely appeal to those on a budget.

Reuters cites “two people with knowledge of the matter,” who say an 8GB iPhone 4 is in production:

The flash drive for the 8GB iPhone 4 is being manufactured by a Korean company, one of the people said on Tuesday, declining to name the company. Apple currently sources its flash drives from Japan’s Toshiba and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics.

The report also mentions that iPhone 5 that we’re all desperate to see now, however, it might not be what we all want to hear. The device is said to launch at the end of September with a larger display, an 8-megapixel camera, and a better antenna, but Reuters revives rumors that the device will look identical to the iPhone 4.

MacRumors notes that the cheaper iPhone 4 may have something to do with those leaked components originally believed to be destined for the iPhone 5:

This news comes at an interesting time, as we’ve been hearing more from suppliers and seeing leaked parts appear on the web. In addition to the battery prototype photo, UK repair shop iPatchiPods had also told us that their suppliers had also relayed that there would be two such models: a less expensive iPhone 4, as well as the expected iPhone 5. Due to the simultaneous development, there could be some confusion with regard to parts appearing on the net.

Though these parts were claimed to be for the iPhone 5, they weren’t too different to those currently featured in the iPhone 4, and could be headed to the cheaper iPhone instead. The camera lens, though slightly different to that of the iPhone 4, was found to be just a 5-megapixel lens and is unlikely to feature in the next-generation device.
