Gawk At This Gorgeous Mockup of The iPhone 4G

A mockup of the iPhone 4G with an aluminum "unibody" case. Image by Graham Bower.

Here’s a very cool mockup of the iPhone 4G with an aluminum “unibody” enclosure from our friend Graham Bower of MacPredictions.com.

The mockup takes its style cues from Apple’s current lineup of unibody MacBook Pros, which are carved from single slabs of aluminum. Metal gives the iPhone a much nicer look and feel.

Like today’s rumors, Graham is predicting a front-facing camera and a high-resolution screen. A high-res screen would allow the iPhone to display more than one app at a time (multitaking!):

And given that the iPhone OS now supports multiple resolutions, a higher resolution screen is also eminently possible. Perhaps we’ll even be able to pinch and zoom the icons on the Springboard. A higher resolution screen also makes dashboard widgets for the default Springboard screen more likely – it’s hard to believe that Apple will sit by while Android and Windows Phone 7 Series are enjoying this feature.

Is This The 4G Verizon iPhone?

Thanks Graham!

That looks pretty sweet ! I hope that back doesnt scratch to easy tho..

All iPhone mockups have been really ugly so far- but this one is gorgeous.

I think if apple does the home screen widgets they will more likely make “ONE” widget with the weather, clock and calendar, current playing song on it, i also wouldn’t be surprised if they make that widget only visible on the UNLOCK screen, which in the end is at least something, but that looks really cool, i hope they put that camera on it tho, that’d be a cool addition, it would also be cool if they did the opened apps (multitasking) in an organized way, kinda like the palm or maybe even with the little white dot under the icon like on the OS X dock, i’d be happy with even a limit of 5 apps at time (even if that includes system apps, sms, calendar, contacts etc.) anyways, cool stuff on this site!

Is really nice though I don’t think is near the real one cause it doesn’t have any flash. And if apple releases without flash that would be a fail.

  • http://www.kevr1990.com Kev Robinson

“And if apple releases without flash that would be a fail.”

Absolutely disagree. I would be very surprised if the iphone ever has a camera flash.

Apple is not going to release with Flash. They’re huge pushers of HTML5 with the iPad, and I don’t see them succumbing to Flash on the iPhone anytime soon. Personally, I think Apple should BUY Adobe and stop all this nonsense.

    @ernesto:
Who cares? Are you taking that many photos in the dark with your phone? Go buy a camera.

  • Rob

Looks nice, but I sure hope Apple updates the Safari icon. The current one is just hideous.

  • http://www.toxicspark.com Andrew Macdonald

That looks absolutely gorgeous. That’s an iPhone Id pay a serious amount of money for!!!

He’s talking about a camera flash, not Adobe Flash.

  • Steve

Needs a flash incorporating into the design. Love the aluminum back to it, very possible as-well with the iPad being designed that way.

  • Francisco

Camera flashes are the stupidest thing ever put on a phone. Especially on an iPhone with it’s beautiful lines and design. Why does anyone need a flash anyways it nave any good to take great photos with anyways. People who want flash probably just want it to take scene and emo kid photos of themsleves. @Conrad precisly! “buy a camera”

Agree with Kev. This mockup is sweet. I so hope this is something like what it’s going to look like.

The unibody design makes all kinds of sense given Apple’s push to all things unibody and I love the screen.

The iPhone home screen is so wasted with just a static picture and the slider.

Let’s at least have a decent clock, I know the time is on there now, but even my wife’s Slackberry has a nice looking clock.

  • Brian

I love how this is the Iphone 4G but it’s running 3G haha

  • Jason

It’s doesn’t take its style views from the macbook pros, it takes them from the iPad, right down to the black plastic covering at the top.

  • http://www.kevr1990.com Kev Robinson

@Jason- But the iPad takes it’s style from the unibody Macbooks.

  • http://rjmccollam.com RJ McCollam

    @Brian

It is not the iPhone 4G it is the 4th generation iPhone (which people are calling iPhone 4G for lack of a better term). Plus 4G is currently only available from Sprint.

Gorgeous design and I can really see this being something apple would do, especially after seeing the iPad design.

  • James

Some people would like to be able to use one device for everything. Sure would be nice for work. So, yes, there would be a great need for a camera flash. Kids with useless party pictures are not the only ones in Apple’s audience.

Nonetheless, I think the original comment was regarding Adobe Flash, which I have read that Apple will never have Flash. They are trying to go a different direction. I’m not that familiar with the whole deal, so that’s as much as I’m saying.

  • http://www.kevr1990.com Kev Robinson

“I think the original comment was regarding Adobe Flash”

No it wasn’t, why would he say that about Adobe flash? This article is about a design, lack of flash software support has no relevance, it would be like making that comment on a story about Chelsea Flower Show.

  • Breadoflife13

I made almost this exact same thing independently like 3 weeks ago. Of course the design is awesome and I’d buy one. To bad my mockup isn’t the one floating around on the internets. :(

  • Sean Peters

I thought that the reason they got away from the metal case in the first place was that it interfered too much with the various radio antennas inside the device. What’s changed about that situation between then and now, that suddenly an aluminum case if viable again? Nice looking design, I just have my doubts about how practical it is.

    What does ‘gawk’ mean?

  • ged

the ipod touch has a metal case.
this is the 1st mock EVER that looks good!
    congrats

  • Darcy McGee

This is not a mock up. This is a fantasy.

It is nice, but there’s zero evidence to suggest that this is a mock up of anything that’s ever going to see the light of day.

  • http://comcast jake

Looks heavy though but cool :)

  • Camperton

I will be stoked if it looks like that.

  • Alexis

Gawk means stare at something with desire to have it…in laymen’s terms

don’t you have a mac? all you have to do is highlight the word and right click and go to dictionary and it will open the dictionary.app and will give you a definition

of course I didn’t need to do that because I understand what the article means…but remember that for the future…I do it all the time

and checking the dictionary will also give you Wikipedia defs on things too

  • Bryan

so major decision, hold out for this or get the iPad. Can’t afford both right now. Can’t decide. Both have the “want” factor, but which will better suite my business needs. Since iWork is a pay app with iPad I may have to wait. which in my experience has worked out better because the next model is always much better than the first. Thinking I should hold out for the iPad with the camera built in.

  • Rob

This could very well be the iPhone “4G”, but I don’t really care.

I do have a problem with the name because it would seem as Apple and Verizon are getting mileage out of this phone being billed as a 4G (data speed) appliance when it clearly is the 4TH GENERATION of the iPhone and STILL VERY MUCH a 3G (data speed) appliance.

The ONLY North American 4G phone will be the HTC EVO on Sprint’s WiMax network, which itself is not available nationwide.
