Flappy Bird creator previews ridiculously addictive new game

Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen has a new game coming out this Thursday, and it looks to be as brutally difficult and addictive as his original viral hit.

According to Eli Hodapp over at TouchArcade, Swing Copters contains the same one-tap gameplay as Flappy Bird, only this time you’re guiding a little character up through platforms that have swinging hammers on them, rather than horizontally through Mario-esque pipes.

Here’s a video to give you an idea:

While this doesn’t look like the game Nguyen teased on Twitter last May, the little character in Swing Copters does have a little helmet. The graphics and gameplay are pure Flappy Bird, though — seriously cute but seriously difficult.

That five point run is the best Hodapp has done, so far, and he’s a serious gamer. Swing Copters looks just as tricky and frustrating as Flappy Bird ever was, flying in the face of Nguyen’s earlier concerns that his game was too addictive to be unfounded, or at least premature.

Swing Copters will be available this Thursday, August 21, and will be free to download. You’ll be able to tip the dev a quick $0.99 for an optional ad-free experience, or just play it a lot to let the ad revenue rack up.
