Spend any time watching trailers for new iOS games, and quickly you’ll find that one merges into the other: all stock music, quick gameplay snapshots, and (if the title’s any good) a stream of title cards reading things like “Brilliant” and “You’ve Never Seen Anything Like This Before.”
Inventive platformer Leo’s Fortune has just received a new trailer and, wouldn’t you know it, it’s every bit as original as you’d hope for from the recipient of a 2014 Apple Design Award. In fact, dare we say it, it’s worth watching even if iOS gaming isn’t really your bag.
The trailer (above) shows a fantastically-intricate Rube Goldberg machine, offering a sort of real-world take on the epic journey your character goes through in Leo’s Fortune. To create it, the game developers worked with Brett Doar, maker of “bespoke machinery and objects of dubious utility.” For those that are interested, Doar’s the same guy behind the giant countdown clock that opened Google’s IO conference on June 25.
In all, it’s a great ad for a game I’m a massive fan of. We profiled Leo’s Fortune prior to its recent WWDC award win, while this website’s review of the game called it “one of the most beautiful iOS games” we’d seen in ages, with “an intriguing story, fun puzzles, and a ton of personality.”
Leo’s Fortune is downloadable from the App Store for $4.99, available for all iOS devices running iOS 7.0 and above.
