Fetchnotes, A Deceptively Simple Note App For Web and iOS

I like Fetchnotes 3, a new and deceptively simple update to the iOS/web app which lets you take, organize and share notes. At first, it looks a lot like Simplenote, with a very plain and simple UI, plus tags and easy sharing. But it’s actually a lot more powerful than that.

First up, organization. You can add hashtags to tag notes, and typing an @ sign lets you add contacts from your iOS address book and share the notes with them (via e-mail or in-app if they also use Fetchnotes). Search can be done on a person, a tag or via keyword.

Then there’s adding notes, which can be done via typing them in, or via SMS, or by e-mail. SMS seems a little old-school, but the e-mail integration is great: you just send or forward a mail to notes@fetchnotes.com and it’ll arrive in your inbox. Only text is supported, but as text includes HTML, any linked pictures or links will show up and work. Thus you could conceivably forward e-mails to Fetchnotes and use it as a lightweight task manager. And yes, you can add tags right there in the e-mail.

You can even attach files from most of your web services (or your Mac) vie the Filepicker service.

Archiving is done via swipe, and hashtags are tappable for quick navigation. Finally, you can use Fetchnotes on your iPhone, iPad or in the browser. Worryingly, though, Fetchnotes is free, so who knows how long it’ll be around?
