Tim Cook’s Reaction To John McCain’s App Question Is Priceless [Image]

Senator John McCain had a lot of fun grilling Tim Cook at yesterday’s Senate Sub-Committee Hearing, but before he was done he couldn’t help but let off one little joke as he asked Tim why he has to keep on updating all the apps on his iPhone manually.

“Can’t you guys fix that already?” McCain asked.

Cook let off a chuckle before stating that Apple is “working on making our products better all the time.” But we know what the southern gent was really thinking.

I am pretty sure Mr. Cook wasn’t the only one thinking that about Senator McCain.

I agree with Mr McCain. Why do I have to update manually. Also I can obviously see where you political agenda lies. Maybe you should think about that next time before you end up alienating some of your readers.

Wow, the level of uncomprehension is staggering. Here’s the reason why manual updates are important: USER CHOICE AND CONTROL! Not everyone may want to update their apps. I’m sure that if Apple gave users no choice and updated everyone’s apps whether they wanted them or not, there would be a HUGE cry of protest that Apple was playing Big Brother and forcing users to upgrade.

Manual app updates are a snap:
    1. Make sure you have the App Store icon on the home screen for fast updates.
    2. Tap on the App Store icon whenever you see a number superimposed on the icon (means that number of apps have updates).
    3. When the App Store app opens, tap on the bottom right button labelled “Updates”.
    4. Tap on “Update All”.

Anyone who has a hard time with this should trade in their iPhone for an oldstyle pre-smartphone and forget keeping up with the learning curve.

Cool, please tell me what my “political agenda” is then? Because I have no idea how you can infer something like that from my post. Saying “McCain had fun grilling Tim Cook” doesn’t mean that I love or hate McCain, or have a vendetta against the Republican party or Democratic party.

as for apps automatically updating – I can see how it would be nice to have a setting box you can check that will enable that. But, I enjoy having the ability to not only choose when I download an update, but I read the update notes on every app and make sure that it’s not losing features I really like. Like lwdesign1 said, I think there would be a lot of controversy and headaches if Apple FORCED everyone to update apps automatically, but it would be nice to have a choice so you never have to bother with it if you don’t want to. (although it just takes 4 seconds to tap “Update All” so I really don’t get why McCain is so cranky about it).
