Rhino has become the first native iOS client for Alpha.app.net available in the App Store. App.net, you may remember, is a Twitter-like platform whose social networking service – Alpha – costs users $50 to join. Up until now, users have had to struggle along with a web view, or get invited to one of the many beta (and alpha!) programs for new apps.
Anyone who has used an iPhone Twitter client will be at home on Rhino. The timeline is shown just like in most Twitter apps, and you can see the global view (actually still useful with App.net’s still-small user base), your @-replies and your profile (I have a runaway fanbase of six followers).
You can also Tweet, uh, post messages (seriously, there needs to be a verb for this already), but you can’t yet add images to your posts. No matter – surely all this will be coming soon enough, and with Twitter’s recent crackdown on native clients, we can also look forward to all the UI innovation happening over on App.net (assuming more than a few people sign up to use it that is).
Rhino, which is iPhone-sized but works fine on the iPad – costs $0, and is available now. Go check it out. And if you’re an App.net user, follow me @mistercharlie, and lets see if I can get into double-digits.
