Archetype, the instantly popular online FPS by Villain that impressed many of us upon its release earlier this month has been pulled from the App Store.

The game’s recent update to version 1.2.1 brought with it several bugs that caused issues when loading on certain devices, and in turn a large number of unhappy customers.

Archetype’s Twitter page confirms that Villain are currently working with Apple to resolve the issue and get Archetype back in to the App Store. One tweet suggests that users with a backup of version 1.05 can continue to use that for the time being:

We’re working with Apple to resolve the problem. 1.05 should work if you have a backup (assuming you downloaded 1.2.1).

I like my apps to be simple and clean and I think that you would agree that is what Apple likes to see in apps designed for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Echofon Pro from Naanstudio is a universal app which makes it compatible with all of Apple’s iOS based devices. All of these attributes made Ecohfon Pro a great Twitter app for my iPhone, but the recently released iPad compatible version really put the icing on the cake.

With Twitter gaining so much popularity in the mainstream, there seem to be hundreds of Twitter clients available for Mac. Department store Saks Fifth Avenue is running a Christmas display in New York City, sponsored in part by Microsoft, where well-wishers can send messages from Twitter to the store window.

In a rather unsurprising, but still entertaining, turn of events a lot of those people express the holiday spirit with “Bah Microsoft!” which then pops up on the Windows screen.

A few recent ones:

The interesting thing — with all the obscenities and potentially obnoxious other stuff that could’ve come up that Microsoft should’ve worried about, they’re getting a playful public bashing, which they also might have predicted…

Work on the set of NBC show “Heroes” has its down time. So actor Greg Grunberg, who plays Los Angeles cop Matt Parkman with the ability to hear people’s thoughts, pulls out his iPhone nearly everywhere. To keep himself busy,  in between takes on the studio lot, he uses the device to send missives to Twitter. He broadcasts them to the more than 20,000 friends and fans following him.

Grunberg also started a business to create a free iPhone app called Yowza — think mobile coupons, it’s expected to launch shortly —  with two men he befriended on Twitter but hadn’t met in person.

Having spent a lot of time on Twitter (You can follow my goings-on there for up-to-the-second mac thoughts) now, I’m starting to get a sense of the community. As I poked around, I found that the micro-blogging community (or “Presence” app, to be buzz-wordy) is full of people posing as Steve Jobs — 7 in all. Consider this post the official guide to the Many Steves of Twitter.

1. Fake “Fake Steve Jobs”
Seen above, an earlier Twitterer claimed the territory of the web’s most famous fake CEO in micro form — only he’s obviously not the real Fake Steve Jobs — he isn’t half the writer of the genuine artificial article: ” Backstage – having some probs with the Powerpoint to Keynote file convertor. I wonder if they notice if we used Powerpoint (on Vista…hmmm)” Pathetic.
