hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:07
how you can make FaceTime more useful
0:09
now when FaceTime came out it it was a
0:11
neat little service you know it's a
0:13
video conference with people uh but for
0:15
me at least the novelty grew off rather
0:17
fast but with a couple simple tweaks to
0:20
FaceTime you can actually use it as a
0:22
home monitoring type of a home security
0:24
kind of system as well as just a webcam
0:27
you know if you wanted to talk to people
0:28
even just across the
0:30
so for this you're going to need two
0:32
FaceTime capable devices in this case
0:34
I'll be using my iMac as well as my iPod
0:37
touch the first thing you're going to
0:39
have to do is go on to your Mac and open
0:42
up
0:44
FaceTime now from here you're going to
0:46
be able to sign in with an Apple ID or
0:49
if you don't have one you can click
0:51
create new account and you can create a
0:52
new account right from here uh but since
0:55
I do have one I'm going to sign in here
0:57
and for this all the workout you're
0:59
going to need two Apple IDs so I'm
1:02
guessing most of you will have to create
1:04
one uh just because most people probably
1:07
don't have two so I'm going to sign in
1:09
with this and then I'm going to do the
1:10
same thing on my iPod Touch so now on my
1:13
iPod I'm going to go into settings and
1:16
I'm going to scroll down to FaceTime and
1:18
from here I can also create a new
1:19
account if I didn't have one and I can
1:21
do the same setup
1:23
process uh but then I'm going to sign in
1:25
here and now I'm all set up and ready to
1:28
go I have FaceTime sign in on both
1:30
devices and you have to have a different
1:32
Apple ID because if you try to call
1:33
yourself with just one Apple ID it's not
1:36
going to work just because it identifies
1:37
it as the same pretty much phone number
1:40
if you want to call it but in this case
1:42
it identifies you as pretty much two
1:44
different people because you have a
1:46
different email address set up for each
1:49
device so now basically what you can do
1:51
from here is you can call yourself so
1:53
this is kind of neat so basically what
1:56
I'm going to do is I'm going to go on to
1:57
one of my devices and I'm going to call
1:59
the other Apple ID that I set up on the
2:02
other device so I'm just going to click
2:04
the email address in this
2:07
case and it's going to show up on the
2:09
other
2:10
device that I can accept the call and
2:13
from here you can see that I can see on
2:16
my Mac uh what is showing up wherever I
2:19
have my iPod touch and this can work
2:21
either way so you know opposite way with
2:24
the iPod touch or whatever you want and
2:26
I can see everything that's happening
2:28
you know uh here's my hand first of all
2:32
if you're going to leave for a while now
2:34
not like for days or anything but and
2:37
you wanted to kind of monitor you know
2:39
make sure there wasn't any suspicious
2:41
activity you could set this up and
2:43
record the screen on your Mac and have a
2:45
little bit of a rigged up security
2:47
system in that sense now there's a
2:49
downfall to this because you are using
2:51
data over the Internet so this is not
2:53
assing you're going to want to leave
2:55
sitting on 24/7 because if you have a
2:57
data cap on your plan and most isps do
3:01
you're going to run out eventually if
3:03
you have streaming data
3:05
24/7 another useful application would be
3:07
to watch for somebody at the door that
3:10
you're waiting for or something like
3:11
that if you're in another room and maybe
3:13
you you not going to hear the doorbell
3:15
you could have this set up and you know
3:16
your iPod just facing out the window and
3:19
you can see whenever that person shows
3:21
up and you know when they walk up you'd
3:23
see them you could also use it as some
3:26
type of a baby monitor if you want to
3:28
see what your child's doing that another
3:30
useful application and even just to talk
3:32
to other people on the other side of the
3:33
house if you need to uh you could use it
3:36
for that too so there's a lot of
3:37
different things you can do with this
3:39
and it's pretty handy uh on once you
3:41
think about it the possibilities are
3:44
really endless for what you can use this
3:46
for and it's just a simple and easy way
3:49
to expand the possibilities and the
3:51
usefulness of FaceTime so I hope you
3:52
found this video useful and thank you
