Apple TV+ now has 7% of the U.S. streaming market, according to a company that follows the industry. That’s more than double the measly 3% the service had two years ago.
At the top of streaming market are Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
Apple TV+ punches above its weight
While Apple TV+ remains a relatively small player in the streaming market, it nevertheless produces content popular enough to give it outsized impact. In 2023, it’s scored big hits with Hijack, Silo, Shrinking, Foundation and more. These have helped it expand its audience.
Apple’s streaming service grew during 2023 to end the third quarter with 7% of the U.S. market, according to a new report from JustWatch. That’s up 1% from the start of the year.
And Apple TV+ ended 2021 with 5% of the market, so it’s seeing steady gains.
Good and bad news for rival streaming services
Amazon Prime Video is on top of the U.S. market with a 22% share, followed closely by Netflix’s at 21%, reports JustWatch. Both grew in 2023.
In third place is Max with 15% and Disney+ is in fourth place. The House of Mouse dropped significantly this year — it started in third place.
Hulu has 11% of the of the U.S. streaming market followed by Paramount% at 8%.
And Apple TV+ finishes the list in seventh place.
