Mac App Store Isn’t Launching This Week, Say Sources

If you are one of the many Apple rumor mongers who expects the Mac App Store to flutter cherubically out of the fertile womb of Software Update later this week, The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple suggests you put your celebratory cigars back in the humidor: it ain’t coming this week, or even this month. Dang.

On Tuesday, it was widely reported that the Mac App Store’s launch — promised within 90 days at October’s Back To The Mac event — had been fast tracked by Steve Jobs himself for a much earlier than expected launch, possibly later this week.

Phooey, says Dalrymple. The Mac App Store won’t launch until January, 2011.

Of course, he’s right: what IT minded company in their right mind would ever launch a major, system-changing new product right before they send people home for Christmas. Trephine madness, right through the occipital lobe, especially when launching after the holidays is still well within Jobs’ 90 Day promise.
