Epic Games is finally bring a spectator mode to Fortnite.

It will begin testing the feature, which will be used in future events, next month during a private gathering in Los Angeles. It’s not yet clear when it will be available to all players in Battle Royale.

Don’t you just hate it when you join your friends on Fortnite and they’re already in a game? You have no idea how long they’re going to be, or how they’re getting on.

That’s why a spectator mode, which would let you jump into the game just to watch them, has become one of the most-requested features for Battle Royale fans. And it’s finally on the way!

Epic will start testing spectator mode in February

Epic has begun inviting content creators to a private event in Los Angeles next month where they’ll get to try out “unreleased spectating features and tools that will be used in future events.”

“As a token of your appreciation, Epic will provide free food and V-Bucks for your help with improving our tools!”

Sadly, this is an invite-only event, so you can’t just rock up on the day and hope to get involved. But you don’t have to be hugely influential in the streaming community, either.

One of the creators invited to the event is BlueNightEdgar, an LA local with just 128 subscribers. It’s thought Epic is focusing on those located nearby, rather than the biggest names.

When will spectator mode be available to all?

Assuming the tests go well, we can expect spectator mode to roll out in a future Fortnite update — but of course, there’s no word on when that might happen. It could take weeks. It could take months.

Keep an eye on the Fortnite Twitter feed and the official blog for updates.
