Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is ready to hop aboard the blockchain hype train with his latest venture that specializes in blockchain tech.

Equi Global, a venture capital firm powered by blockchain, revealed that Steve Wozniak is one of its co-founders and that the company is looking at 20 companies to invest in before it even launches.

When asked what about the appealed him to the VC firm, Woz said it’s something that he believes in and that he’s said ‘no’ to many companies and projects over the years.

“This is about the second time in 20 years that I’ve actually said ‘yes, I want to be a part of this,” said Wozniak. “I travel the world a lot speaking and I run into so many people that have great ideas and companies…and I never really had anything to do with them because I had limited time. Now I’ll have a place where I can pick up on the best ones.”

Blockchain-powered VC firm

So what exactly makes a VC firm a “blockchain-powered” VC firm? The way Equi Global explains it, they offer a customized token to customers called the EquiToken. You can buy into the VC fund by purchasing EquiTokens which are built on the Ethereum platform. The tokens can be traded on external crypto exchanges too.

Equi Global doesn’t invest solely in blockchain technology though. 80% of its portfolio is aimed at tech investments while 20% is set aside for real estate, art, vintage cars and other non-tech investments.

The other two co-founders joining Woz are Scottish businessman Douglas Barrowman and Baroness Michelle Mone, who says she’s a big fan of Steve.

“Woz has always been my business icon and it’s a dream come true to be working with him at EQUI,” Mone stated.
