Siri users looking forward to a new app called Shortcuts will have a place called Sharecuts to suggest and swamp custom voice commands for the Apple-based digital assistant.
Sharecuts creator, Guilherme Rambo, wanted to build a website where people could share shortcuts and suggest ways for fine-tune existing ones. It is currently a black-and-white page, but will be more colorful and robust by the time Shortcuts comes out this fall with the launch of iOS 12.
The Shortcuts app is only available right now to invited developers and the beta period for iOS 12 continues.
“I was talking to a friend about how cool shortcuts are, and how it should be easier for people to share and discover shortcuts,” Rambo told the website TechCrunch. “He mentioned he wanted to build a website for that – he even had the idea for the name Sharecuts – but he was on vacation without a good internet connection so I decided to just build it myself in one day.”

The Shortcuts app will give iOS 12 users the ability to set up multi-step processes through third-party apps to breeze through tasks. Cult of Mac’s Charlie Sorrel recently wrote about the many ways Shortcuts can be applied to tasks.
Potential for Sharecuts
Some of the shortcuts currently featured on Sharecuts include calculating a tip, uploading posts to Medium, “Get File Size,” tracking Bitcoin prices on Coinbase, and a translator for phrases to the way Yoda of Star Wars would say it.
Uploading to Sharecuts, for now, is only for those invited to test Shortcuts. Register here for an invitation to contribute.
In an upcoming release, Sharecuts will host a “featured” selection of shortcuts curated by well-known members of the Apple community, Rambo said. Uploads to the site will be monitored to prevent malicious shorts and spam from being part of the directory.
Sharecuts is written in Swift and open-sourced on GitHub.
