Fortnite gets new limited-time game modes every week, but for a while now, those game modes have been improved versions of modes we’ve already played. That could be about to change.

Files reveal two brand new game modes coming to Battle Royale. “Tactics Showdown” and “Ground Game” will completely change the way you play. It’s not all about building anymore!

Epic adds new content to Fortnite every week to ensure the game always feels fresh — even for those who play every day. If you get bored of the regular Battle Royale experience, you can hop into other game modes and enjoy something different.

In recent months, we’ve enjoyed improved versions of 50 v 50, Sniper Showdown, and High Explosives. We were also treated to Infinity Gauntlet, which allowed us to play as Thanos from The Avengers.

Now it looks like Epic has two brand new modes up its sleeve.

Fortnite files reveal Tactics Showdown and Ground Game

Tactics Showdown and Ground Game have both been discovered in the latest Fortnite game files on PC. Both are completely new takes on the Battle Royale experience — and they seem ideal for inexperienced builders who just can’t catch a break.

Tactics Showdown “encourages tactical combat and building by putting a sap on the amount of resources and ammunition players can carry. Player-built structures also start off with less health than normal, and when players are eliminated they will drop fewer resources than normal.”

In Ground Game, “the focus is on fighting smart,” Epic explains. “Spray and pray and build spamming isn’t an option here. Fewer building materials can be carried and max ammo count is limited, so use the natural cover that the map provides and map every shot count!”

Is Fortnite losing its focus on building?

It’s interesting that both game modes push players away from building. Despite being the most unique element of Fortnite — the one that differentiates it from other battle royale games — building is hard to master and makes the game incredibly difficult for inexperienced players.

Even if you’re a pro at other shooters, you won’t last long in Fortnite if you can’t build quickly and effectively. If you’re only just getting into the game, then, it’s hard to enjoy it. You’ll be eliminated early by more experienced players in every match you play, even if you have better gun skill.

Epic is rumored to have been considering building adjustments to avoid this, so that even new players can enjoy Battle Royale. It won’t remove building entirely since it is what makes Fortnite Fortnite, but these game modes suggest it is testing methods of reducing the focus on building.

It could be that we will one day see big building changes in Battle Royale, or perhaps a permanent game mode in which building is wiped out completely. But with Fortnite changing every week, it’s hard to predict which path Epic will take next.
