When people think of home automation, something like the Nest thermostat probably leaps to mind first. But not everyone needs something that elaborate. For those who needs are simpler, GE just launched a window AC unit that’s HomeKit compatible so it can be controlled by an iPhone.

The GE AHP08LX is a standard window unit, aside from its support for home automation systems. It puts out 8,000 BTUs, which is enough to cool a medium-size room (250 to 350 sq ft).

The AC unit is ENERGY STAR certified, and offers three fan speeds. It comes with an in-home remote control.

Support for Apple HomeKit allows this product to be easily turned on or off from a remote location. More than that, though, it can be put on a schedule so it’s only cooling the room when it’s needed. This schedule can be integrated with other home electronics.

In addition to HomeKit, the AHP08LX is compatible with Google Home Kit, Amazon Alexa, and IFFIT.

At this time, the GE window AC unit is exclusively at Lowe’s. The manufacturer’s suggested price is $269. However, when we checked our closest Lowe’s location, the cost was $319.
