If your Retina MacBook Pro dies too quickly in between charges, you likely need a new battery. You can either pay Apple a small fortune to install a new one for you, or you can do it yourself with this new kit from iFixit.

A new battery is one way to significantly improve the lifespan of your MacBook. If you’re a frequent user, it can degrade quicker than any other component. But for as little as $89.95, you can install a brand new one and breathe new life into your notebook.

iFixit is now offering Battery Replacement Kits for the 2012-2015 Retina MacBook Pro lineup. It includes all the tools, parts, and instructions you’ll need to swap out your old battery. But be warned: The process isn’t for the faint of heart.

Getting the battery out of your MacBook Pro is an incredibly difficult task, thanks to the industrial adhesive Apple uses to secure it in place. In fact, if you took your machine to Apple for a battery replacement, it would simply replace the case the battery is attached to.

Fortunately, iFixit has a neat solution. Rather than making you heat up the glue to loosen it — which could cause the battery to explode — it has developed a chemical solvent that dissolves the adhesive while it’s still beneath the battery.

The Battery Replacement Kit is available for all 2012-2015 Retina MacBook Pros, and costs between $89.95 and $109.95, depending on which model you have. You can order yours today from the iFixit store.
