The Apple Watch continues to go from strength to strength, while Samsung’s own wearable devices are eclipsed by new arrivals, according to new figures released by International Data Corporation (IDC).

What the figures show is that Apple Watch shipments increased from 3.6 million units in the year’s second quarter to 3.9 million in the third. This increase, IDC suggests, is the result of additional markets and sales channels coming on line.

Users continue to flock toward the entry level Sport devices, which Apple is catering for by introducing new gold and rose gold models.

Samsung, meanwhile, is knocked from the top five wearable vendors list by Chinese manufacturer XTC, which managed to beat the South Korean tech giant despite being available only in China, where it manufactures only one device: the Y01, a children’s phone watch.

Both Apple and Samsung lost out to Fitbit overall, which shipped 4.7 million units out of the total 21 million wearable devices shipped during Q3 2015. Fitbit maintained its lead thanks to its popular Fitbit Charge and Fitbit Surge models, while also seeing continued growth in the Asia Pacific, European, Middle Eastern, and African markets.

Overall, China has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing wearables market.
