Win An iPad 3 — Just Take Our Reader Survey

Want an iPad 3?

Tim Cook will be introducing it next week. Take our reader survey and you’ll be entered into a sweepstakes to win one.

We’ve grown a tremendous amount these last three years, from just a few thousand pageviews a month to more than 9 million in February — and that was a short month. We need a favor — some data about you, the readers, to help attract advertisers and sponsorship partners. This is crucial — our bandwidth costs are through the roof!

There’s more. We’d like to learn something about the state of the Apple ecosystem — what devices you are using and how. Do you use your iPad at work? What are you planning to buy this year? We’d also like to learn what you think of the site and what we could do better.

The survey is fairly short — just 25 questions — and shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete. At the end you’ll be given the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes — just fill out your name and email. The lucky winner will be drawn from the hat and we’ll buy an iPad 3 as soon as it’s available.*

Naturally, all your information will be kept confidential. We’re interested only in building a general audience profile. Your email will not be shared with any third-parties: it’s just to alert the winner.

Note — the survey is embedded below. We’re using a frame which sometimes cuts off the questions. Be sure to scroll down within the frame to see all the questions and the button to advance to the next page.

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world’s leading questionnaire tool.

*Legally, we are limited to buying a prize worth no more than $500. To iPad 3 we’ll buy will be roughly equivalent to the current $499 iPad 2, assuming Apple keeps to its current pricing structure. And of course, no one currently knows when the iPad 3 will go on sale.

    I’m confused. Where’s the survey?

  2. Mike DiBartolomeo says:

    The survey isn’t listed.

  3. Tim Sando says:

    Good question.

  4. Shadowxpr says:

    No link to survey…

  5. Ian Rathbone says:

I am also confused and now lost. There is no survey and therefore no hope. Why did you do this Cult of Mac? Why?

  6. Lloyd Murray says:

This is what happens when you write an article at 4 am…. :)

  7. Ben Amponsah says:

How rubbish!! They want us to do a survey and there is none…

  8. kylereddoch says:

Eagerly awaiting the actual survey to be posted. :)

  9. brownlee says:

Okay, sorry, guys, should be fixed now!

  10. rdowns says:

    Still no link.

  11. berny90 says:

    No link yet…

  12. DoctorK4 says:

    Great idea for pageviews, though!

  13. taylerz says:

Always happy to help the folks at Cult of Mac. My bandwidth costs were, too, through the roof (3TB cap). I recently switched to an unlimited bandwidth (100Mbps) host and bought down the RAID controller and hard drives (one-time setup fee) so I’m actually paying less monthly for a similar server config. I may have other helpful tips. Ping me at Twitter.

  14. brownlee says:

Huh? It’s embedded. I’m looking at it right now. Try refreshing?

  15. JDWages says:

Like others here, I don’t see any survey nor any link to any survey.

Moreover, if the iPad is $499, once you add tax you get a price above $500, which means no one will get an iPad unless they somehow avoid paying sales tax.  And even if one argues that tax isn’t a factor, it still sounds fishy to me since the article says the prize will only be awarded if the iPad pricing remains the same.  What kind of “prize” is it when the prize potentially won’t be given at all?

  16. rdowns says:

Good point. The prize should  be a $500 Apple gift card.

  17. Chase Fegan says:

Time of day wouldn’t have mattered… this blog has become increasingly rife with crap – like they type with their eyes closed, and post without it passing through an editor.

  18. Allan Cook says:

This survey sucks. You answer all their questions then it blows up with “No survey incentive can be found.” So essentially I’ve given SurveyMonkey a lot of information for nothing.

  19. brownlee says:

Worked just fine for me. What browser and OS are you using?

  20. RamsayBerlin says:

So I get all the way through the survey and only then do I get the terms and conditions that restrict participation to residents of the good ol’ U.S.of A.? C’mon Cult of Mac, you know you’ve got a large international following… How about a heads up for us beleaguered foreigners BEFORE we give you our valuable research in return for… well, no prize at all.

  21. darcyfitzpatrick says:

The rules aren’t made available until after the survey is complete, at which point it’s made clear that only legal residents of the US are eligible.

    Slimy, guys. Real slimy.

  22. FriarNurgle says:

    Worked for me too.

  23. brrn says:

Only open to residents in the US is uncool, at least say that in the post.

  24. SupaKeith says:

    Worked like a charm!

  25. Buster says:

you have to click “next” to start the survey but it should be there now

Another america only sweepstake.. There are people on the internet from the rest of the world too you know!

  30. Ed_Kel says:

Thanks for the opportunity! And congratulations on the surge of popularity!

  31. Reelin101 says:

    yea same…

  32. Zeteboy says:

Sucks that you only find out it only for the US at the end of the survey.

  33. Allen Dunahoo says:

    I. Want. It.

  34. Jeremy Skinner says:

What a bunch of sniffling babies.  The odds of winning this are slim anyway.  Hopefully the info will help Cult of Mac obtain some sponsors to pay for giving us the pleasure of reading it’s articles at all.

  35. Dean says:

End of survey states “Oops, can’t find your incentive”  WTH?

  36. ddevito says:

What if I win?? Imagine that.

  37. Khoo Wee Sheng says:

Under question 23, you need to add a “self-employed” option

  38. Scott Strawbridge says:

Thanks for wasting my time! The sweepstakes is only open to US residents. You might want to post that information BEFORE you get people to fill out the survey!

  39. lkahney says:

@james Sorry, I didn’t know the sweepstakes was US only. It’s run through CrodScience, and I guess that’s one of their stipulations.

  40. Arend Bloemink says:

Two pages of the survey, then nothing… how good is that?

  41. NapMan says:

I did the survey but didn’t see any way to enter the contest

  42. NapMan says:

     Nevermind.  I wasn’t logged in.

  43. Jv51 says:

Hey, Cult of Mac, looks like this little help us with our bandwidth survey has done your image more harm than good. Everybody wants access to your personal data and with such slim chances of actually winning and with all the restrictions I think I’ll pass.

  44. Jean-luc Robert Pelchat says:

how are we supposed to be notified if it doesnt ask for an email or any contact info?

  45. jose boschetti says:

you should post the rules before we fill out the survey, i just wasted 5 minutes filling out your survey so that afterwards i could find out i’m not eligible because i live in Puerto Rico. Thanks for nothing

  46. darcyfitzpatrick says:

It’s up to you to know these things and to let your readers know. It’s your credibility on the line, after all.

  47. Andrew McLave says:

Leander kahney, this ipad3 competition moved the goal posts on all non US cult of mac readers who bothered to enter and took the time to complete the survey which you guys will use divisively, thus negating the honesty put into it and showing nothing but contempt to your readers by omitting the true facts therby missleading them to believe that they were not to be discriminated against by mere virtue of their location!  Would it have been so difficult to point out the rules beforehand!  mmmm! what would a consientious editor do? what would a professional do? what would an ignorant yob do, i wonder? Ive just lost all respect for you on behalf of all cult of mac fans who were taken in by you!
i wonder will you even bother to read this,
                                                                   sincerly, Let down!

  48. Gaffer27 says:

What a waste of time!! non US and you forget to mention it, still great site guys, thanks

  49. David Nielsen says:

Can you at least update the article to reflect that the contest is only open to US citizens.

  50. Cicero's Cuz says:

I’ve completed the survey but there is no place to enter my name or email. How do you plan to contact me so I can get my new iPad 3?

  51. bd7349 says:

Entered the sweepstakes. Good luck to all!

  52. Rick Kerr says:

Darn! I went through the entire survey only to notice in the rules (that I could only read once completed I might add) that as a Canadian, I am not eligible. Not nice cult of mac, not nice at all!

Looks like my last visit to Cult of Mac…shame.

  53. Terane says:

  54. Floydstyle says:

what a waste of time thank you cult of mac.  I filled it, couldnt enter my email and now im seeing it’s only for us residents
    thanks alot

  55. nlkflint says:

I answered that I didn’t usually leave comments, but here ya go.  The scrolling between the survey and the web page was ridic.  You would think you finished a question and in fact there were more answers on scrolling.  Likely many ignored the rest and went on to the next question. Poorly set up survery.  Sorry bro, truth.

  56. zadigre says:

I was doing to post the same thing…
rules should be announced before taking the survey…

  57. Curtis Something says:

    1. Eligibility: SurveyMonkey Sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry.
The internet knows no borders. You really should post the US-centric limitation of your contest before someone takes the survey. People need to know if they’re eligible or not as part of the decision-making process.

  58. Roland Birnbaum says:

Just a suggestion: Please put the survey rules first and not once you have filled out the whole survey. I am in Spain and so I filled out everything only to find out that only US residents can get the prize. Could be a cheap shot, but most likely only an oversight. Please make a correction. Thanks. Otherwise I love your site.

  59. Andy Grant says:

Bit of a swizz, COM :( Completed survey then the sweepstake link is broken! Thanks for nothing!!

  60. GJNilsen says:

What a waste of time! I finished the survey, and found out the sweepstakes is open only for US residents. Thats fraud folks! No information BEFORE, only afterwards. Stupid. But hey, there is nothing to expect anymore here on Crap of Muck.

  61. anderslorentsen says:

    Hey dudes!
    what’s wrong with europeans??
Anyhow.. the survey did not work anyway..

  62. rekabis says:

It would help to actually collect the user information!!

Took the whole survey, and was NOT given a chance to fill in my information! All I got was a “Thank you for taking the survey!”… no opportunity to put in my email address or other contact info ANYWHERE.

And I just read some of the comments… your readers should NOT have to read through the comments to discover that this contest is open to US citizens only… even had the survey worked properly, I would have only found out at the very end that as a Canadian, I was ineligible. This kind of information should be FRONT AND CENTRE to any offer, survey or contest.

    NOT COOL, cultofmac!

  63. dcj001 says:

I took the survey, and entered the contest, two days ago. I had no problems whatsoever.

Maybe completing the survey, and entering the contest, were considered IQ tests. If you cannot figure out how to enter, you cannot win.

  64. Zeteboy says:

Still no mention in the article that it’s only for US residents.

  65. ADimensionOfMind says:

It’s been said before but I filled this in and then found out it’s US only …a shame : (

  66. Nick Papageorge says:

Oh for goodness sakes, I have never seen a whiner bunch of people. I agree that they should have announced that it was US only, but 99.9% of all contests are not for international people. If you aren’t in the US, just assume that unless it explicitly states otherwise, you aren’t in the running.

Otherwise find a way to either be a us citizen or at least have a US address for it to go to! That’s not that hard ;). TRUST ME.

  67. Warren Fraser says:

  68. Wazzzzzup says:

I took the entire survey and clicked “Done” and then wasn’t asked any contact information, not asked for email address or phone number or anything. How will they send me the iPad if I’m lucky enough to win this prize???????

  69. Allan Cook says:
