What Was Apple’s Big News: New Nano, iPod, Or Ping? [Poll]

Wow — that was quite a show from Steve Jobs. A brand new line up of iPods (except the Classic); a hot new AppleTV that costs just $99; and a potential Myspace killer in Ping, iTune’s social network for music.

But which announcement was the big one long term?

Will a FaceTime-enabled iPod allow Apple to route around AT&T and other wireless carriers? Or will the new, inexpensive AppleTV be the product that finally takes settop boxes mainstream, and Apple’s next big hit? Or is the new multitouch nano a glimpse at the future of multitouch personal electronics (think nifty iWatches)?

    The big news is:
That I have to wait 2 more months to get iOS4 and multitasking to my iPad =(

    Ping was the surprise.

We all had the rumours about the Apple TV and new iPods, but I didn’t read a single article suggesting Apple was to launch a social-like service. Totally unexpected.

Still waiting to download the new iTunes though. Still not available in the UK. Any idea when its due to hit?

One more thing: Loyal Apple customers, kiss off! If you haven’t bought a new computer in the last two years or upgraded your OS we don’t give a rat’s ass about you!

Steve is fast losing credibility with longtime Apple customers by abandoning or ignoring them at a breakneck pace. if you don’t have Intel or Snow Leopard, pound sand! You can’t use the latest release of Safari (or at least many of its features), and you ain’t gonna see iTuners 10 for a good long while! So either buy a new $1000 computer to replace that two-year old relic, or pay $129 for a fairly useless OS update if you actually want to use the toys we already offer to WINDOWS BUYERS for free!

Seriously. Steve, why don’t you just wear a black tshirt with a crossed-out smiling icon? Or that says “PPCFU?” Or maybe a tiger in a rifle scope? You’re making it more than clear you just don’t care about anything that’s not “tomorrow’s news,” and it starts with your customers. One reason I started buying Macs was because they aren’t obsolete doorstops in 2 years. Well, not technologically. But you seem hell bent on making them obsolete by refusing to allow us to update them.

It really sucked when I had to replace my Windows computers every two years. It sucks even more when I have to replace my Mac after two years, really screwing up the TCO equations. Especially when Windows owners get the new stuff before Apple customers.

    @imajoebob

what is your problem…the fact is Tiger is outdated and you need to update to Leopard or continue to be left in the dust…time moves on…Leopard 10.5 has been out for going on 3 years now…suck it up and go to ebay and buy a 10.5 disk and enjoy the future

no one expects you to buy a new Mac but you are expected to get with the times

10.5 is still supported and updated and that is mainly for those who still have PPC macs…as most Intel Mac owners are on SL 10.6 now

I feel your pain but you really need to chill cuz it’s not Steve’s fault you are too cheap to invest in your Mac…hell I went out and got 10.5 the day it was released and never looked back on Tiger…and if you have a PPC model that can’t run 10.5 then you really need to update your machine

throwing a hissy fit on a blog post isn’t going to make things better for you…only you can do that

@Alexis – how, exactly, does suck it up and buy more Apple crap – oops, “invest in my Mac” address the fact that Apple USED to claim lower TCO buy advertising their computers had a longer life cycle and they didn’t intentionally make their products obsolete? I paid 2 Grand for a Mac laptop when I could have paid 1200 bucks for a Windows version. But I knew from experience that Apples continue to perform (more than) adequately for 4 or even 6 years, while the Windows machine would be trash in about 2 or 3. And my system continues to perform well after more than four years. I’m not looking for upgrades to the OS. I’m not expecting the Genius Bar guys to be very familiar with my system. I’m not even expecting Apple to develop commercial software for my computer. But Apple doesn’t bother to provide me with tools they GIVE AWAY to Windows buyers. So I can expect to continue to get the latest and greatest from Cupertino… if I buy a Dell?

That’s just treating your customers like crap.

I’m really glad that Apple finally gave the iPod Touch a face lift and equipped it with a camera even though its only 0.7 megapixels. Hopefully the 5th generation will have a higher camera resolution and that will certainly convince even more people to upgrade.
