iOS hackers have released jailbreakme.com, a browser-based jailbreak utility for the Apple iPhone 4, 3GS, and 3G when running iOS 4 or 4.0.1. The jailbreak is reminiscent of one of the original jailbreaks for the original iPhone.

In addition to the above devices the jailbreak is compatible with an iPad running iOS 3.2 and 3.2.1 and an iPod touch 3G running iOS 4.0.

This jailbreak is simple to use, but before you start just be sure to sync and backup your device before hand. After you’ve verified a successful sync and backup browse to http://jailbreakme.com from Safari on your iOS based device to jailbreak it.

Jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0.1 Cydia was installed automatically by the jailbreak.

Update 1: iPads running iOS 3.2.1 are not currently working properly on the Jailbreak site. So if you have an iPad running that version of iOS you should wait until this is resolved by Comex.

Update 2: This jailbreak does not work on devices running iOS 4.1 beta.

Update 3: Reports are coming in that the jailbrake causes problems with FaceTime and MMS. The fix (see comments) is to perform a restore using the last backup made before applying the jailbreak.

    You have to browse to the site on the device that you are trig to jailbreak. Opening it on your computer won’t do anything.

    want to jailbreak my 3gs, running 4.01. It’s not activated anymore but has an old at&t sim card in it. will this work? I want to unlock later to use on t-mobile.

    does the phone have to be activated on at&t to jailbreak?

    @ JB: Yes it is unthered meaning you can turn off ur phone without effecting the jailbreak!

    @ Scott: Once Jailbroken, using cydia install installous. While doing so it will automatically install aapsync which allows to sync 3rd party apps to itunes!

    Hey if you are having problems with this jailbreak…try this:

    1. Backup your iphone.
    2. Restore you iphone to factory settings via iTunes
    3. Jailbreak it at http://www.jailbreakme.com
    4. Restore your backup via iTunes back to your phone.

    I had a problem where my phone was bricked for an hour or so. Had to Restore it and then I updated to 4.0.1 also while I was at it. The Jailbreakme kept saying that the installer crashed…over and over again :( So I did the above 4 steps and it worked like a charm.

    Hey guys, I have jailbroke my 3GS 4.0 with jailbreakme, only it won’t let me sync with I tunes now and wants me restore.
    But when I try this it won’t work, it downloads new update but won’t install it, also I have pixel damage when I restart the phone with the apple logo
    Any ideas ? Thanks

    After jailbreakme.com jailbreake skype stopped running in the background on my 3GS. Reinstall didn’t help. After the jailbreake I had a message pop-up saying skype will only run on unmodified iPhones/iPod touches.

    Anyone had the same problem?

    @Adil – thanks for the response. I used JBMe and it’s all working fine…so fingers crossed. did it really quickly too. I just tried MMS funtion, so waiting to see it that works. other than that pleased.

    Ok…. So I used jailbreakme on my 2g 3.1.3. It seems to work fine, then I installed ultrasnow to unlock it, it shows as installed, but when I put my tmobile sim in, it shows emergency calls only. Any ideas?

    jailbreak and unlock works good on 3gs iphone but cydia repo keeps my iphone to safe mode everytime i install anything from cydia.

    Can someone answer 2 questions for me: I have a Iphone 4 and I want to jailbreak it with Jailbreakme. However I want to know:

    Will I still be able to purchase apps from the app store with no issues (ie. not be blocked from my account)

    And will my iphone still sync properly with Itunes or will it ask me to restore because it is jail broken.

    I just want to say this jailbreak is freakin awesome!!!!!!!!! im on tmobile and you do need an at&t sim thats the only sidebar but compared to all the copy and pasting and software and soft reset and hard reset etc for older jailbreaking methods getting a at&t sim is a piece of cake… you guys r the f**kin best!!!!!!!

    @Che: reset it by holding the menu button and the power button at the same time until you see the apple logo appear.

    Hi, I have the blackrain jail break on my 3gs right now but its tethered. Can i just run this on my phone with the jailbreak already there or do I have to restore it to factory (settings like no jailbroken apps and stuff on it anymore) before I run it?

    I was having the problems of the purple universe. I went into settings, cleared my cache , cookies and history and shut off my wifi….worked from the 3g phone network…

    My iphone is crashing every now and thn. all app crash and phone goes into safe mode. the bigest proble factor is double press of the home button which takes you to search… it crashes for sure even if you go beyond scrolling the home screen and goes into safe mode. Please help!!! Mine is 3GS running on the 4.0.1 firmware JB from jailbreak me. Newbootrom.

    Hi guys,
    I have an iPhone 3gs on os 3.1.2, model MB71822 and modem firmware 05.11.07. Already jailbroken but am myself doing it for the first time. Cydia says my SHSH is saved for 3.1.2, 3.1.3,4.0 and 4.0.1. I want to update it to ios 4.0.1 and jailbreak and unlock.
    From what I have researched over the net, I believe I need to do the following steps…
    1. Download ios 4.0.1 from some link(since iTunes gives 4.0.2 now)
    2. Reset my Iphone to factory settings thru iTunes.
    3. Update it to ios 4.0.1 thru iTunes.
    4. Visit jbme.com and get it jailbroken.
    5. Get it unlocked thru by installing ultrasn0w.

    Am I right? What am concerned abt most is unlock part.. Since I wud be really helpless w/o it. Really love my iPhone :)

    kindly let me know if my understanding is correct and whether anything else is to be done?

    I jailbroke it but when I tried to Instal infinidock something crashed so I removed the thing but when I reset my spring board everything was gone because I had cydia on my dock. It just disappeared.

    Is anyone having duplication issue after Jailbreaking? I have iPhone 4 on 4.0.1 and at random times if I make calendar events or contacts from my iPhone they will duplicate up to 30-50 times. I also have an iPad with 3.2.2 (not jailbroken) and when I make events on the iPad I do not have these issues, that is why I think this is associated with the JB. I am using apples Mobile Me for keep all my devices syncd. If Any one who can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey guys, i don’t know if anybody else is having the problem where the install will crash when you “scroll to install”, but i had that issue for a while. I actually just fixed it by deleting all the apps, and its jailbreaking right now. I’m not sure if deleting the apps had anything to do with fixing it, but it seems to work now.
