It still hasn’t been officially confirmed by Apple, but reports suggest that the company will soon begin offering iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C repairs in its retail locations — providing minor repairs and screen replacements for the two latest iPhone models.
The required machinery to calibrate these screens has supposedly begun arriving in Apple Stores already, and Apple should make its own announcement soon. How long it will take to replace a damaged screen is currently unknown, but if the 5C and 5S are anything like the iPhone 5, waiting time should be about one hour. Expected cost is around $149: still expensive enough to advise against smashing your iPhone screen for fun, but cheaper and easier than paying for your unwarrantied device to be replaced and put through the backup and restore process.
