Apple Will Knock Down, Reinstall Iconic 5th Ave Glass Cube

Apple has just erected plywood walls around their iconic Fifth Avenue Apple Store in New York City, and some massive renovations are about to go down. Could the iconic glass cube be about to go sphere?

That’s a little far fetched, but
ifoAppleStore reports that on Wednesday night, Apple erected barriers to “reinstall” the glass cube, upgrade the suttounding plaza structure and completely replace the glass.

What’s most shocking is the price. Apple will be spending $6.6 million to restore the cube, which cost just a little bit more at $7 to build from scratch back in 2006.

Scaffolding’s set to go up tomorrow. Expect the construction work to last to November. That’s a long time for the tourism industry, considering the fact that Apple’s 5th Avenue Store is one of the hottest tourism locales in New York City.

I’ll be going to NYC in a few weeks and was hoping to make the cube one of our tourist stops. Hopefully I’ll at least be able to get a photo of a huge plywood cube (almost as good as a glass cube).

It is being replaced with wallpaper made from Microsoft stock certificates. The glass is heading to Cupertino to begin the new mothership.

I’m going to say there’s going to be a giant glass cloud erected over it.  Seems obvious in order to build up awareness.

It’s called spell check, you should give it a try some time. Maybe before you post an article.

This is a step up from recent Brownlee posts.  A giant step up from the JC Penney rants.  This actually addresses Who, What, and When, though still no Why.  How hard can it be to type, “No specific reason was given for the work?”

And we’re back to the usual “excellence” with post on the iCloud logo (no explanation of how the ratio is used, or even where it is applied).  Keep up the sub-mediocre work.
