hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:11
the new Assistive Touch features in the
0:13
iOS 5 beta 3 and what you can do with
0:15
them so basically these features are if
0:18
you have a broken component of your
0:21
device let's say your home button or
0:22
maybe accelerometer or if you need
0:24
accessibility help so to activate these
0:27
features first you're going to go into
0:30
settings and from there you're going to
0:32
scroll down and then you're going to tap
0:34
on accessibility and there's quite a few
0:36
options in the accessibility menu but
0:38
we're going to focus on Assistive Touch
0:40
from here we're just going to turn
0:41
Assistive touch on now I've noticed that
0:44
it's a little bit buggy uh in that it
0:46
takes probably a good 2 to 3 minutes to
0:48
start up on my device I don't know if
0:50
that's a you know a speed performance
0:53
issue it really shouldn't be um or if
0:56
it's just an issue with the iOS 5 beta 3
0:58
but I noce it takes a while to show up
1:00
so I'm just going to come back once it's
1:02
shown up now here you can see the
1:03
Assistive Touch features have started up
1:05
and as default you'll see this little
1:07
box in the bottom right hand corner and
1:10
it sits right there but you can move it
1:12
around you can move it to six individual
1:14
locations on your home screen um in in
1:17
the corners as well as in the middle and
1:20
then across the top as well uh for this
1:23
demo we're just going to set it over on
1:25
this side right here so you can see the
1:27
assist of Touch button right here and
1:28
when I tap on it you're you're going to
1:30
see this menu come up right in the
1:31
middle of the screen you have a couple
1:32
different options here uh first of all
1:34
let's go into the device menu if I touch
1:37
screen rotation you're going to see a
1:38
couple different options uh right now
1:40
it's in portrait mode so if I touch that
1:42
nothing happens but if I touch right the
1:46
entire iPad will rotate right and I can
1:48
do upside down as well as left and then
1:51
bring it back to Portrait if I want to
1:54
so that's nice and then if you want to
1:56
get back from there you can just tap the
1:57
center of the little box and it'll go
1:59
back back and then from here I can also
2:02
mute and unmute the iPad uh so I can
2:05
just touch it it switch between and I
2:07
can also simulate a shake gesture by
2:09
just touching this and then I can change
2:11
the volume up and volume down just by
2:13
tapping these two buttons here so that's
2:15
neat U let's say if your volume buttons
2:17
are broken you know that that could come
2:20
in handy and then this is a really neat
2:21
one you can tap lock screen and it'll
2:23
instantly lock your iPad screen so then
2:26
once you're done in that menu of course
2:28
you can tap the center again to go back
2:29
out and then this is neat uh if your
2:31
home button's broken and that's a pretty
2:34
common thing on iOS devices as they
2:36
start to age you can just hit home right
2:39
here and it'll take you right back home
2:42
uh so it just simulates a home button
2:43
press now the last couple menus here are
2:45
for gestures and there's quite a few of
2:47
them so if I tap gestures you're going
2:49
to see 2 3 4 and five finger gestures so
2:53
these gestures are more specifically
2:55
application based than anything and I
2:57
haven't personally found a use for them
2:59
yet yet for example I'm not quite sure
3:01
of any applications that use a five
3:03
finger gesture although I know that
3:05
there are some uh multi-touch gestures
3:07
in iOS 5 that let you return to the home
3:10
screen uh using a five finger gesture
3:12
but that's not present on the original
3:14
iPad which I'm using so I wasn't able to
3:17
test that out but what you do is you
3:18
just tap on the gesture and on the
3:20
screen you're going to see the number of
3:23
uh fingers that you would you know the
3:25
gesture and you can move the gesture
3:26
around to use it a better example of
3:29
this is INS saari if I go under the
3:31
favorites menu you can see there's a
3:33
couple favorite gestures in here pinch
3:36
and swipe or the two default ones and I
3:40
added five finger pinch and I'll show
3:41
you in just a second how to do that so
3:43
if I tap pinch you can see on the screen
3:45
I have a little pinch to zoom menu here
3:47
so I can take this bar and I can drag it
3:49
in and out to zoom in and out of the
3:51
page just like that and I guess if you
3:53
have trouble with the gestures this is
3:55
probably a handy thing to use instead of
3:57
the pinched zoom and you can also do
4:01
swipe which uh when I tap on it nothing
4:04
happens once again this could be
4:05
something with the beta I'm not sure but
4:07
what you can do is you can hit one of
4:09
these plus buttons here and it will
4:11
launch you right back into settings and
4:13
in settings here you can see you can
4:15
create a custom gesture so let's say I
4:17
want a two finger swipe uh I can do a
4:20
two finger swipe uh it's a little bit
4:22
laggy in the beta uh but you can see
4:24
that would work and then down at the
4:26
bottom I can save or reset that gesture
4:28
and I'll just call it two swipe and I
4:30
can hit save and I when I go back into
4:32
my gesture menu and I go under favorites
4:34
you can see that two swipe is present
4:36
and if I touch it uh there's the two
4:39
finger gesture that I made this gesture
4:41
comes in handy if you want to swipe
4:42
across the pages of your home screen as
4:44
I can take it from here and I can just
4:45
drag it across the screen and it will
4:48
hopefully simulate a page turn gesture
4:51
for me right there so that's pretty neat
4:53
and that is how you use the new
4:55
Assistive Touch features in iOS 5 beta 3
4:58
and I'm sure they'll have worked out the
4:59
bug by the time the actual iOS 5 build
5:02
comes out but for now it's a really cool
5:04
Edition and I hope to see them
5:06
implemented further in the future so I
5:08
hope you found this video useful and
5:09
thank you for
