PocketCloud App Puts Your Desktop In Your Pocket For Free

Wyse has just released a free version of PocketCloud for iOS, giving you wireless access to remote computers from your iPad or iPhone.

The free version carries adverts, and lacks some features (video streaming and external monitor support) that you’ll find in the paid version.

The app’s multi-function see-through touch pointer is a particularly nice feature. Watch this short demo video and you’ll see what I mean:

It doesn’t have the same visual flourish as something like Screens (as blogged by John Gruber the other day), but then again it won’t cost you 15 bucks. If you need remote access once in a while, PocketCloud is likely to be enough. If you need it more than once in a while, Screens might be a better choice.

Ina Fried has a detailed interview with Wyse CEO Tarkan Maner over at All Things Digital, which delves into the background behind the decision to release the app for free.
