If you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to send friends outfits and other items in Fortnite Battle Royale, we have good news.

Epic Games is now trialling a new gifting feature inside the game following yesterday’s version 6.31 update. You’ll be able to use it for one week only, and there are some things you should be aware of.

Epic has been promising for months that Fortnite players will get the ability to send gifts to their friends. We’re finally seeing the beginning of that this week.

Here’s how the feature works.

How to send gifts in Fortnite Battle Royale

First, you’ll need to find the item you want to gift in Fortnite’s Item Shop. After selecting it, you’ll be presented with two options — one that lets you buy the item for yourself, and another that lets you “Buy As A Gift.”

If you select the latter, you’ll be asked to choose which friends you want to send the gift to. You will also get the option to add a custom message. The recipient will receive your gift the next time they log into the game.

Before you rush off to buy a gift, there are some things to bear in mind.

Things you should know

You’ll need to have multi-factor authentication enabled on your Epic Games account before you can send gifts, and you must have been friends with somebody for at least 48 hours before you can send items to them.

You will only be able to send gifts three times within a 24 hour period, and only items that are currently available in the Item Shop can be gifted. Any gifts that are purchased are non-refundable.

Finally, you cannot send gifts on iOS devices because “Apple’s policies prohibit it,” Epic says. You can send them on Mac, PC, Android, and console.
