Insane drone video shows one way to cook a turkey (maybe)

A new drone video is setting the Internet — and a turkey, and maybe even a forest — on fire.

It features an extreme version of cooking that might result in a perfectly roasted holiday bird. Or it might just be a charred mess. We’re guessing on the latter, but it’s somehow fascinating to behold.

Check out the latest weapon in the war on poultry below.

The video comes courtesy of online shop HobbyKing, and it’s exactly what you’d expect: Somebody mounted a flamethrower on a drone and then blasted the hell out of a turkey on a spit. The custom-made machine includes readily available motors, relays, switches, and pumps, along with “a significant number of 3-D printed parts, wiring, soldering, and miscellaneous” items, according to its description on YouTube.

The uploader didn’t make the plans available on the page, and that’s probably the smartest and safest part of this whole thing.

A drone video doesn’t just have to be about showing off how Apple’s new “spaceship” campus is coming along, although those clips are certainly a lot of fun. With drones, 3-D printing, and the maker community becoming bigger and more accessible than ever, we’re sure to see increasingly creative (and potentially dangerous) uses of do-it-yourself tech.

We wouldn’t want to eat the unfortunate bird in this video, but it’s an interesting project that could certainly cause no damage whatsoever if it fell into the wrong hands.
