Not content with their DIY touchscreen analysis experiment back in January, the team at Moto Labs have gone one better, and repeated the test with more handheld devices and a fairer test environment.

This time they used a robot to trace a pattern in a drawing application on the screen of a variety of mobile devices.

Straighter, cleaner lines show which device has better touchscreen sensitivity. These things matter when people are trying to tap on tiny little bits of text or icons displayed on screen. The better the touch sensitivity, the better the user experience is going to be when touching.

In this summary of the experiment’s findings, the iPhone is shown doing a much better job than any of its competitors:

Before you start sending sympathy cards to Droid owners, keep in mind that the story isn’t as simple as it first appears. Make sure you read the comments under the original post, where several Droid owners make remarks that suggest real-world touchscreen performance on that device isn’t as dreadful as the summary in this video would suggest.

What’s your experience? If you have a Droid (or if you have a Droid and an iPhone), do you agree with the Moto Labs findings?
