Now you can bottle your sound, literally, with the Cork Speaker.

There are Bluetooth speakers that are shaped like bottles. Then there’s the Bluetooth speaker that needs a bottle to work.

The Cork Speaker attaches right where you might think – at the opening of a bottle – and directs audio into the empty space so that it projects a deep and resonating sound.

This is a 21st-century version of the bottle repurposed to hold a candle for a certain ambiance. The Cork Speaker may be even easier to assemble to set the mood.

On Kickstarter for less than a week, the Cork Speaker had already surpassed its funding goal. A speaker, in black, gray, white or wine red, can be purchased for $43 and, if all goes according to the production schedule, ship in December.
Cork Speaker comes with two silicon couplers that attach to bottles of all shapes and sizes. It turns on easily and syncs with whatever devices you use for music. No app is required. The speaker charges with a micro USB cord and on my first experience, I seemed to be going strong on one charge when I stopped for the day at around eight hours (the creators promise 10).

To adjust the sound of the speaker is simple – move it do a different bottle.

I tried the speaker on six different bottles. The public relations firm representing the Cork Speaker’s makers, Leedeyeon Inc., sent me the speaker with four of the bottles, including a large-mouthed Starbucks bottle and a frosted Absolut Vodka bottle that had a string of battery operated lights on the inside.

I added a Wild Turkey rye whiskey bottle and 2-litre plastic pop bottle. Glass definitely delivers a richer sound and a fat bottle with a shorter neck, in my opinion, sounded the best. This was the vodka bottle.

In the weeks ahead, as my household polishes off other bottles of the adult beverage variety, I will be interested to see how the speaker sounds in say a square Bombay Sapphire gin bottle or glass bottles with different thickness and color.
