Twitter is taking the fight to Snapchat and Instagram by opening Moments up to all. The feature will initially be available to influencers, partners, and brands — but all Twitter users will be able to get their hands on it “in the coming months.”

Until now, Moments has been offered exclusively to select partners, and edited by small teams of curators based in New York and San Francisco. However, this approach hasn’t really attracted users to Twitter like the company had hoped it would.

So today Twitter announced that it is opening Moments up to everyone.

“We’re excited to announce that a broader group of creators will be making Moments, including influencers, partners, brands… and in the coming months, everyone,” the company said on its blog.

“By extending this creative format to more people, and eventually to everyone on Twitter, we are giving people a new and dynamic way to tell their stories.”

Moments will continue to be served in the same way they always have been — through the dedicated Moments tab. However, users will also be able to access them through links embedded in tweets.

By making Moments more accessible, Twitter is stepping up its fight against Snapchat and the Stories feature recently introduced by Instagram. However, unlike the others, which disappear after a short time, Moments give you all the time you need.
