Apple Maps Connect could reach more countries soon

Apple may be a tech giant with more spare cash than a dozen Scrooge McDucks, but it does spare a thought for the little guy every now and then.

Late last year, the company launched a new portal called Apple Maps Connect, designed to allow businesses to add or edit listings within Apple Maps. Initially available for U.S. businesses only, last month it expanded to the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore — and now it may be set to arrive in French and German-speaking countries, too.

The news was reported by the website Apple Maps Marketing, which recently noted that:

“Apple Maps Connect was down about an hour ago. I just tried it again and got [a] screen which presents options to pick English, French or German as your language and to subscribe to ‘News and Notifications’. This may mean that Maps Connect is now available for businesses in French and German-speaking countries.”

There’s not yet been official word from Apple on the availability of the new languages yet, although the additional options do hint that we might have a rollout on the way. If so, it’s a good move for Apple — which not only gets to expand this useful (and much appreciated) feature into new markets, but also gets user-generated improvements added to its sometimes-maligned Apple Maps service. In other words, everyone wins!

This isn’t the only bit of France-related Apple news, either. The French government has just revealed plans to embrace the modern world by changing laws to allow later night and Sunday shopping: something likely to be of benefit to any Apple Store visitors in belle France.
