Stubilizer, A Gyroscopically-Stabilized Mount For GoPro Cameras

By

The Stubilizer is an accelerometer-and gyroscope-controlled mount for GoPro cameras, and it’s designed to smooth out shaky video shot with the action sports cam. Designed by extreme sports junkie Stuart Smith, the rig is small and light enough to mount ion a helmet, and it uses little motors so it doesn’t’ need giant cantilevers and counterweights.

Currently seeking funding on the Kickstarter, the Stubilizer is a stubby little box with a standard GoPro mount. There are three version: the Solo, the Duo and the Pro. They’re differentiated by the number of axes of rotation they use, from one to three. None of these works like a Steadicam, but they will keep the horizon straight and iron out a lot of bumps and shakes.

Kickstarter pledges run from £150 for the Solo up to £300 for the Pro, but I guess if you’re into the whole extreme sports thing and the expensive gear you need to stop you dying when you jump out the back of as plane on a motorbike, then £300 is small change.
