If you were on the fence about whether or not to pay $199 for an iPhone 4 from Verizon Wireless with the iPhone 5 around the corner, will another $50 off get you to commit. A new rumor says that Verizon is planning on dropping the price of the iPhone 4 to $150.

An ad apparently from Verizon and published by the Unofficial Verizon Blog Monday shows the iPhone 4 for $150.99, an almost $50 drop from the usual $199.99 price offered by the carrier. Unlike Android handsets, where price drops are pretty common, a rumor about price drops for current iPhones are rare.

We bring this rumor with a heavy dose of caution. Even the original site couches their own report by writing the price cut is “possible.” The source for the speculation is unknown. Beyond that proviso, the rumor only gives credence to talk Apple will soon release the iPhone 5.

AT&T used its $49 price for the iPhone 3GS to attract customers. Verizon may have an inside word that Apple is indeed slowing orders for the iPhone 4 in anticipation of the next-gen handset many expect in August or September.

If Verizon does drop the iPhone 4 to $149.99, will you buy now or wait until a new version is available?
