New technologies could make the next iPhone significantly thinner than its predecessor.

A Taiwan-based component maker in Apple’s supply chain is reportedly set to produce 15 million units of the fifth-generation iPhone, according to a new report — readying the device for a September launch. Though it may not boast that major redesign many had been hoping for.

As many other rumors have claimed, the device will look identical to the iPhone 4, according to sources for DigiTimes, and will launch later this year as expected:

Taiwan-based notebook maker Pegatron Technology is estimated to have landed orders for 15 million iPhone 5s (iPhone 4S) from Apple and is set to start shipping in September of 2011, according to sources from upstream component makers. In response, Pegatron declined to comment about its cooperation with clients.

While the device may look similar on the outside, however, its internals are set to change, with the introduction of Apple’s latest dual-core A5 processor and an 8-megapixel camera. A recent report did claim the device would sport a major redesign, but the majority of speculation we’ve seen has agreed that won’t be the case. Other new features may include a dual LED camera flash, a BlackBerry-esque LED indicator on the front, and an edge-to-edge display.
