hey everyone today I'm going to be
0:07
showing you Expose and specifically DC
0:09
Expose and this is a feature that is
0:12
going to come in handy a lot if you're
0:13
used to Windows 7 with all the arrow
0:16
Peak features and they're really
0:17
actually really great features and if
0:19
you've just recently switched over to
0:21
the Mac you might be wondering how do I
0:23
do all that stuff like I used to be able
0:24
to do on Windows I you know why did I
0:27
make this decision you can actually do
0:30
pretty much everything you can with
0:31
arrow Peak on the Mac so like on Arrow
0:35
Peak you'd be able to um hover over your
0:38
app tiles in your taskbar and see your
0:41
open Windows you can show your desktop
0:43
and you can see what apps you have open
0:45
and stuff like that works just just like
0:48
that on the Mac and I'll show it to you
0:50
so the first thing you're going to want
0:51
to do if you haven't done it yet is set
0:54
up Expose and you can do that by going
0:56
into system preferences now you can find
0:58
system preferences Under The Apple menu
1:00
in the top left hand corner of your
1:01
screen and then just click on system
1:04
preferences and it's going to open up
1:07
and from there you're going to want to
1:08
click on the Expose and spaces
1:10
Tab and make sure you click on the
1:12
expose Tab and here you're going to see
1:15
this window where you can set up the
1:18
your keystrokes for expose so you're
1:20
going to look right down here in the
1:21
middle and all windows application
1:24
windows and show desktop so you can set
1:28
which keys on your keyboard you'll
1:30
press to activate these features so all
1:34
windows I have set to F3 application
1:36
windows I have set to left control and
1:39
show desktop I have set to F6 so I'll
1:43
show you these features in a minute now
1:45
the reason I can't tell you to press a
1:47
specific key is that because this can
1:49
vary from computer to computer if you
1:50
have it set up with different hot keys
1:53
so it's kind of a thing that you know
1:56
you you want to actually set up and and
2:00
personalized to what you want it to be
2:03
so we're just going to go up here and I
2:05
have a very messy desktop here it's all
2:07
cluttered with all kinds of stuff so the
2:10
first thing I might want to do is see
2:13
all my windows that I've open and all my
2:14
open applications so to do that I have
2:16
the hotkey set as F3 so I can press F3
2:20
on my keyboard and you can see all my
2:22
windows kind of shrink shrink down and
2:25
fill the screen in a nice orderly grid
2:28
format and I can see everything that I
2:30
have open across my desktop here and
2:35
even things that are minimized like I
2:37
have Twitter minimized it's below the
2:39
line here and it shrunk down even more
2:41
to show you that it's
2:42
minimized so I can look at all these
2:45
applications and when I hover over them
2:47
they turn blue and then there's the
2:49
title below them so all I have to do to
2:52
find the one I want is just click on it
2:54
simply and let's say I want to click on
2:57
this uh window here with my files in it
3:00
I'll just click on it and that jumps to
3:02
the front so I can if I want to go back
3:05
to something else I can press my hotkey
3:07
again and then click back something else
3:09
and this is the hotkey for all
3:11
windows so I can also have this specific
3:15
to application windows so let's say I'm
3:17
on Safari here and I want um just to see
3:21
what windows I have open in Safari and
3:23
to see that I'm just going to press left
3:25
control I have it set up as you might
3:27
have it set up differently and you'll
3:29
see the windows that are open in Safari
3:32
and I can click on one of those and
3:33
switch to that there and then once again
3:35
hit my hotkey again and go back and
3:38
select a different one and that's the
3:40
hotkey for application Windows now the
3:43
other one which you may be used to the
3:45
most in Windows 7 uh with arrow Peak is
3:49
show show desktop and show desktop would
3:52
be like the little button in the right
3:54
hand corner on your taskbar and you
3:57
click on it all your windows just kind
3:59
of go transparent you can see your
4:00
desktop and for that hotkey I have set
4:03
as F6 so when I press that all my
4:06
windows fly off to the
4:08
sides and my desktop is open and free
4:11
and uh from there you know I could open
4:13
up a different application if I wanted
4:15
to or if I want to go back to what
4:17
windows I have open I can click anywhere
4:19
along the outside of my screen uh
4:22
there's a black bar I can click anywhere
4:24
on that and my windows will fly back in
4:27
just like that so that's the hotkey for
4:30
show desktop and I have it set as
4:33
F6 now let's say you don't really like
4:36
hotkeys and you just want to be able to
4:38
see what windows you have open without
4:40
having to press any keys well what you
4:42
can do is you can hold down on an app
4:44
icon click and hold for like 2 seconds
4:47
maybe and it's going to show you the
4:50
windows you have opened from there so
4:52
you can see that just like that and then
4:55
click on one of course to open it back
4:58
up and once you're in Doc expose like
5:02
this I can easily find other windows
5:05
that I have open just by clicking on
5:07
them from there I don't need to click
5:08
and hold or anything um and I can just
5:10
find them just like that so I can switch
5:14
apps within doc expose just like that
5:17
and switch around till I find the right
5:18
one I want and then click on it to open
5:20
it up and this this really comes in hand
5:23
if you have a lot of open application
5:25
Windows like in finder I have several of
5:27
them open here and I can just select the
5:30
one I want and let's say I want to go
5:32
back to that folder or different folder
5:36
I can just hold on again and then go
5:37
back to a different
5:39
one hold down on the app icon again go
5:42
to a different one now let's say I want
5:44
to transfer file around well I can do
5:47
that pretty easily too so right here in
5:50
my desktop I have this Arrow Peak image
5:53
and what I can do is I can drag that
5:55
image down to my window that my app icon
5:58
in my doc
6:00
and what it's going to do is it's going
6:01
to activate doc
6:03
Expose and now I can drag this file to a
6:06
different folder let's say my home
6:08
folder and then drop it right into my
6:10
folder just like that and it's moved
6:13
from my desktop to my application
6:16
folder and let's say I want to move this
6:18
file back to my desktop without having
6:20
to you know work with all these
6:22
different windows and drag them around I
6:24
can drag the file right over that folder
6:26
onto my finder icon and then doc expose
6:30
will activate I can drag it right over
6:32
top of my desktop folder it selects that
6:35
folder brings it back in and then I can
6:36
just let go my mouse button and it pops
6:39
right back onto my desktop in my desktop
6:42
folder so if you're used to Windows 7
6:47
Arrow Peak you'll be very at home with
6:50
expose on Mac and Doc expose it all
6:53
works really seamlessly and it all works
6:55
together and it's very similar and
6:57
you'll be very comfortable with it if
6:59
you've used windows so that's a really
7:01
nice handy feature that Apple puts in
7:03
there if you're you know used to Windows
7:06
and you're a
7:07
switcher you don't have to worry about
7:10
losing out on any features you had in
7:12
Windows so that's about all for this
7:14
video I hope you found it useful and
7:16
thank you for
7:22
