I’m surprised that they were still a contender, but according to Forbes, Apple has just reached a milestone: they’ve just passed Motorola as the largest phone maker in the United States.
According to Forbes, Apple sold 8.8 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2010, compared to Motorola’s 8.5 million across all devices.
In the grand scheme of things, though, Apple’s 8.8 million iPhones sold in a single quarter isn’t all that great. Back in 206, Motorola sold an astonishing 46.1 million phones, due to the success of the RAZR… otherwise known as the worst cell phone ever made. Imagine the numbers Apple might be pulling in a few years selling the best cell phone the world has ever seen?
